97 points James Suckling: "Really beautiful aromas of crushed blackberry, brambleberry, hazelnut, walnut and light coffee, following through to a full yet so reserved and polished body with fine, creamy-textured tannins. Fresh and exquisite finish. This is a much more refined and harmonic rendition of their classic wine. Three years in French oak from their own production. Very enjoyable now, but this will improve with age for a long time." (07/2021) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Full-bodied, refined and powerful, with a luxurious texture, this red boasts...

95 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit with plum, light raisin, chocolate and toasted oak. Some balsamic undertones. White truffles and dried flowers. Medium body, creamy tannins and savory, balsamic undertones. Extreme and unique, as always." (09/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2008 Viña Tondonia Reserva is very elegant, fresh and with an herbal twist, starting to show the complexity of the aged wines that are sometimes still too young when they are released 10+ years from the vintage! The palate is medium-bodie...

This Gran Reserva is from some of their oldest Tempranillo and Graciano vines, planted in 1931 and 1946. It is elegant, generous, and a precociously delicious treat for now, or over the next 15 years. Miguel Merino makes, as he likes to put it, an "updated classic" style of Rioja, all from his own 2 hectares of vines and several hectares of vineyards owned by a close friend. All the fruit is from sloped vineyards (Miguel is a fan of his slopes) within the cooler climate Rioja Alta town of Briones, which makes his wine a terrific showcase of the terroir (...

98 points Decanter: "The new wine by oenologist-winemaker Telmo Rodriguez, was definitely one of the wines of the tasting. It is a 3.8-hectare, single-vineyard cuvée from the limestone foothills of the Sierra de Toloño in Rioja Alavesa and made from a massal selection of Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha, Granegro and Rojal. A gorgeously dense and rich nose, concentrated and a balanced combination of perfumed elements, fruit and spices - cherries, ripe plums and liquorice. Tannins gently settle on the tongue but the flavours are impactful and so precise. I...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous 2016 Vivaltus was really impressive. I was already amazed at the unbottled sample, and the finished wine seems even better! It's a blend of Tempranillo with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, mostly from old vines. It fermented in stainless steel with neutral yeasts and aged for around 12 months in French barriques, 20% of them new. But there's no oak in the nose, which is ethereal and perfumed, elegant and nuanced, with notes of violets, wild berries and herbs. The palate shows ultra-refined tanni...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Finca Torremilanos "Cyclo" Ribera del Duero (94RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cyclo is 100% Tempranillo sourced from two vineyards, one with 85-year-old vines and the other with 150-year-old vines. The grapes were fermented with native yeasts and the wine spent 18 months in new barriques. Purple/black in color, the wine has a superb perfume of wood smoke, toast, vanilla, floral notes, mineral, blackberry, and licorice. Sumptuous on the palate, the wine is large-scaled, powerful, ripe, and structured. Give it 5-7 years in the cellar for additional complexity to emerge. It will drink well through 2030. (JM)" (02/2008)
Starting Bid: $90.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of Federico Paternina "Banda Azul" Rioja. One of Rioja's most historic producers, Paternina is well known for their rustic, traditional style wines. This a Tempranillo-dominant blend.
Starting Bid: $80.00

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2004 Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero (95RP, 92WE, 90ST) and 1-bottle of 2005 Bodegas Los Astrales "Christina" Ribera del Duero (97RP). Of the 2005 Bodegas Los Astrales "Christina" Ribera del Duero, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2005 Astrales Christina (of which there are a mere 150 cases) is also 100% Tinto Fino sourced from the estate’s oldest vineyard, planted with 85-year-old vines. It was aged for 21 months in new French oak. Opaque purple/black, it reveals a superb perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, leather, spice box, floral notes, licorice, and blackberry liqueur. Massively constructed, powerful, but brooding, this full-bodied, intensely flavored, complex effort has a 60+ second finish. However, it demands a minimum of a decade of cellaring and will still be providing pleasure in 2045. It is a true vin de garde. (JSM) 97+" (02/2008)
