For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. This is a superb Cabernet-very elegant and user friendly already. Lots of sweet cassis and red fruit aromas that follow to the palate. No hard edges here-drink it young with a prime rib or steak dinner. Will cellar well for five plus years. — Clyde Beffa...
89-91 points Burghound: "Note: mostly from Fuissé fruit with the addition of a small percentage of Vergisson. Subtle if still easily perceptible oak sets off ripe and fresh aromas of essence of pear, citrus confit and pretty floral nuances. There is excellent energy to the appealingly precise medium weight flavors that deliver solid length on the bitter zest-inflected finish. This could use better depth but the potential aging curve should allow for that to occur." (10/2023) 91 points Jasper Morris: "Frédéric has been trying to bring the Château blend ...
90-92 points Vinous: "Vibrant and sexy, the 2022 Vacqueyras Cuvée Floureto dazzles with bright violet, black cherry, black plum, garrigue and white pepper aromas. It is crafted from early harvested Grenache and Syrah with tiny jolts of Mourvèdre and Cinsaut, all aged for ten months in old oak foudres. Ever-so-smooth tannins frame this medium-bodied 2022 and have that characteristic nervy tension that winemaker Frédéri Férigoule brings. It finishes on a refreshing note and contains 13.9% alcohol.(NG)" (11/2023) 91 points Decanter: "Appealing plum and da...
93 points John Gilman: "The 2022 Evangelho Vineyard bottling from Cody and Emily Rasmussen is composed from a blend of ninety percent, very old vine Carignan and ten percent Mourvèdre. The Carignan vines are ungrafted and were planted in the 1890s! The wine was fermented with thirty percent whole clusters and raised all in foudres and the 2022 comes in at an even fourteen percent octane. It delivers a deep and complex aromatic constellation of cassis, sweet dark berries, chocolate, smoked meats, a lovely base of soil, a lovely array of spice tones and ju...
94 points James Suckling: "This zinfandel-dominant field blend is ripe, delicious and lush, with light, spicy oak accents over plump blackberries, blueberries and vanilla bean. Saturated and opulent but not fat, as moderate tannins and some raspberry-like acidity balance the full body. 67% zinfandel, 20% carignan, 10% petite sirah and 3% mataro." (05/2024) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Deeply structured and bright with acidity, this combines power with grace. Black cherry and dark plum flavors take on licorice, green peppercorn and Asian five-spice accent...

Burghound: "An ultra-fresh and nicely ripe nose freely offers up its pretty aromas of mostly red pinot fruit and soft earth scents. The racy, delicious and attractively textured middleweight flavors conclude in a dusty and lightly austere finale. While this could be approached young, 2 to 5 years of keeping should round off the finish and develop more depth." (01/2024) Jasper Morris: "Plots on the sand for the most part. A bright purple. Lean, austere, fresh. Red berries with even a chocolate note behind. Drier finish but enough fruit. Ready to bottle....
94 points Vinous: "An enticing blend of dried roses, peppery spice and woodland berries wafts up from the 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard. This is vividly fruit-focused yet crisp in feel, with tactile minerals adding a crunchy sensation as tart red and blue fruits swirl throughout. It tapers off youthfully tense, leaving a staining of primary concentration while silty tannins frame the experience well. (EG)" (05/2024) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard pours a vibrant ruby/magenta color and is highly expressive in t...

92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Seafarer showed beautifully, with a darker strawberry, plum, and mulberry-driven profile offering lots of cooler peppery herb, violet, and underbrush-like nuances. It's medium-bodied, silky, and elegant on the palate." (08/2023)
93 points Decanter: "Appealing and fresh, with an intriguing whiff of white pepper (à la Grüner Veltliner). Plenty of weight here and very nice purity. A rather different take, would be great to enjoy with food. Crisp, zesty finish. (CC)" (10/2023) 90-92 points Jasper Morris: "This comes from a steep south-facing section of the vineyard, known as La Côte. No wood has been used. A little more yellow colour. This shows ripeness, with a bit of liquorice, but has retained all its saline vigour, even a touch reductive. Very good length. Accessible but all i...

Guy Farge took over the management of his family estate in 1980. Originally selling his fruit to the Cave de Tain (where he worked) and then to Delas, in 2007 he began producing wines under his own label. Each year, the wines have grown and evolved as has Guy's winemaking prowess. Now working with his son Thomas, each bottling represents some of the best we have seen from his primarily granitic terroirs. The "Terroir de Granit" is primarily from sites in Aubert, La Roue and around the winery in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. It is aged in used 400L barrels for a...

91-93 points Jasper Morris: "All has been made in stainless steel. The bouquet offers greengage fruit, certainly not overripe. Good tension, with lemon and lime, a little youthful bitterness, very promising in its classical Vaucoupin style. Drink from 2026-2032. " (01/2024) 93 points Vinous: "The 2022 Chablis Vaucoupin 1er Cru has potent sea scents on the nose and a tang of shucked oyster shells. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and saline. It is classical in style, with a reserved but compelling finish. Understated in the...

Vitallis is a new "hidden gem" our buyers found in the Mâcon, where small producers fly under the radar. In classic Burgundian fashion, the Dutron family has been growing vines since 1835, and now owns some of the oldest and best parcels in the village of Fuissé in the Pouilly-Fuissé district. In the glass, the wines live up to the hype.

95 points Jasper Morris: "Another gleaming green and gold. The nose is growing on me, all about the fruit and not the oak. Crunchy oyster shells! Very vertical, to employ a current buzzword. Absolutely superb! Stands alone in style, because of its terroir. I think it is the clarity of the finish and the lack of sucrosity which really impresses. Drink from 2026-2035." (04/2024) 90-93 points Burghound: "Pungent aromas of reduction and wood toast introduce beautifully textured and stony medium-bodied flavors that can't match the concentration or the power...

Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé, where they make Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran wines from twelve hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, stainless steel for others. The wines have long been customer favorites at K&L with their clean and fresh style, and their affordable price tags. With citrus and stone fruit profiles, zippy acidity, and a minerality that comes from their terroir, we think Renaud is one of the best entry-level Burgundy estates we carry at K&L.
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Jeweled ruby/magenta in color, the 2022 Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountain Vineyard is perfumed and floral on the nose, with fresh notes of ripe black raspberries, violets, sweet sage, fresh earth, and a hint of umami. The palate has a lot of purity and a crystalline, ripe feel, with a hint of delicate richness coming through. More red-fruited than the 2021, the inclusion of some Calera and Dijon clones gives it its textural component, and it has ripe tannins and a long finish. Drink 2025-2040. (AF)" (08/2024)

93 points Decanter: "Lightly honeyed pear aromas lead to a full and flowing palate that’s satin textured. Has a feeling of freshness and purity, rolling on to a soft finish. A really lovely expression of Roussanne, the acidity is quite low but it feels authentic in its balance. (MW) " (09/2023) K&L Notes: Guy Farge took over the management of his family estate in 1980. 91 points Decanter: "From vines in Vittoria, Ragusa, this Frappato is all charming red fruits – raspberry, pomegranate, wild strawberry – coupled with incisive acidity and a vertical palate. Fresh, vibrant and moreish. (JB) " (05/2023) 91 points James Suckling: "Fresh and fruity red with aromas of strawberries, raspberries and cinnamon. Medium-bodied, crunchy and lightly chalky in texture. From organically grown grapes. Delicious now. Sesta di Sopra’s Rosso di Montalcino is a vibrant and elegant expression of Sangiovese, showcasing the terroir of Montalcino. This wine reveals aromas of ripe cherry, red berries, and rose petals, with subtle hints of spice and earth.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and well-structured, with fresh acidity and silky tannins supporting flavors of red fruit, herbs, and a touch of minerality. The finish is long and balanced, making it approachable in its youth while retaining the potential for short-term aging.
A versatile red, it pairs beautifully with...
90-93 points Burghound: "Pretty and more elegant aromas include those of the hallmark floral scents that are nuanced by hints of essence of pear, star anise and markedly more moderate wood influence. The dense and unusually powerful and even opulent larger-bodied flavors exude evident minerality on the sappy, refined, agreeably dry and youthfully austere finale. This is classy and sophisticated and worth checking out." (08/2023) 92 points Jasper Morris: "Glowing lemon and lime colour. A very elegant bouquet for Pouilly-Fuissé, with the little sandalwoo...

92 points Jasper Morris: "Glowing yellow. It may be Vergisson but the sun is shining in this south facing vineyard with the cliff behind. Sauvignon touch from the buis (in the past). Now on the palate more of a honeysuckle note, but then the chiselled freshness returns." (04/2024) 91 points Vinous: "The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude 1er Cru has one of the most precise aromatics, the most mineral-driven with lemon verbena, wet limestone and touches of white flower. The palate is taut, vibrant, linear and chalky, with hints of white peach, almond, an...

95 points James Suckling: "A very cool and sophisticated dry riesling with an intensely mineral personality on the powerful but very focused palate. The terrific interplay of tightly wound Amalfi lemon fruit, herbal freshness and austere stony minerality gives this great energy in the very long and linear finish. Great aging potential. Drink or hold." (05/2024)

Like art in a bottle. Kent Humphrey created the Eric Kent winery as a celebration of art and craft. He sources fruit from some of Sonoma County's best vineyards and he partners with local Sonoma artists to feature their work in a sort of wine label gallery. Each wine Kent creates features a new and distinct piece of art. For Kent’s part, after pursuing a career in academia and advertising, he found a home in the wine cellar, and began working with vineyards he loves throughout Sonoma County. 96 points James Suckling: "Superlative mourvedre and certainly the leading light for the variety in Australia. Briny, chewy and gorgeous in its savory guise, this is a powerful expression bound to such a taut tannic fabric, underlain by spice and a tuft of dried herb, that there is not for a moment any excess of sweet fruit. Lots of chomp, depth and layers, oozing tapenade, saddle leather, sweet loamy earth, martini brine, menthol and violet notes, with raspberry bon-bon lurking. A wonderful wine deserving of serious praise and cellar time. Best after 20...

Clean, precise and wonderfully persistent. (DWWA 2024)" (06/2024) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a flirty Sancerre. Aromas of peach, jasmine tea, white blossom and dried orange peel layer in on the nose followed by tangerine and unsulfured dried mango slice. Balanced acidity competes with green apple on the palate and both declare a truce on the merged finish. (RS)" (12/2024) 90 p...

Clearly more generous fruit on the nose, retaining a chiselled austerity on the palate but still with a generous dark strawberry fruit which pushes through to the finish." (11/2023) 88-90 points Burghound: "The expressive nose proffers notes of forest floor, warm earth, plum and the sauvage, all of which is trimmed in gentle oak nuances. There is more volume and richness if less refinement to the medium bodied flavors that flash good vibrancy on the lingering bitter pit fruit-inflected finish tha...

First buying fruit from other growers, he began to build up his own brand and winemaking style purchasing his own cellar in the summer of 2020. (12/2023) 96 points Raymond Chan: "Moderately deep ruby-red, lighter on the rim. Jancis Robinson: "Green-apple note, long and fresh on the palate. Good density here. (AWH)" (01/2024) K&L Notes: Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "3 ha spread over 4 parcels.A more overtly perfumed nose. Really broad, really mineral – a touch less sucrosity here but with super middle and finishing clarity to these mouth-watering flavours – just a little more yellow-citrus energy – complex and delicate but with a proper structure. This could be more than excellent if you are patient!" (01/2024)

Muscular and broad-shouldered with a fluency of fibrous tannins, a tang of lip-smacking acidity and a gorgeous smoky violet finish. (Platinum Medal, DWWA 2024)" (06/2024) K&L Notes: Consists of 100% hand-harvested and carefully sorted Syrah sourced from 25-year-old vines that grow in sandy granite soil. 97 points Decanter: "The West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from Peay is comprised of 81% Estate fruit. The rest comes from their neighbour, Richardson Vineyard, who grow fruit for some of the Peay wines and loan the Peays their sheep to manage weed management. The wine is extraordinary, given its youth. An earthen depth predominates the aromas, with candied red fruits and rose petals. The palate is lush and gorgeously textured with fleshy red fruits set against savoury clove and a concentrated minerality of crushed stone. Finishing with beguiling notes of wil...

93 points Vinous: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Cuvée Alyce shows the riper side of the year in its flavor profile, textural breadth and overall feel. Succulent dark cherry, plum, lavender, menthol and cloves fill out the layers, while polished tannins wrap it all together in style. For the first time, the blend includes some 943 Clone to complement the traditional mix of 777, 115 and 114 used in this bottling."

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A single parcel on the hill of Troesmes, replanted at the start of the 2000s. Just recently bottled a ‘little’ barrel elevage here – 10-15%Hmm – airy and in this case more floral aromas. Direct, more intense, clearly extra visibility to this minerality. Obviously accented with salinity too. This is a beauty but will need 2-3 years to fill out a bit – but I love it!" (01/2024)

95 points Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby in the glass, the 2022 Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard is refined and pure on the nose, leading with varietally classic aromas of yellow peach, wild red berry jam, touches of woodsmoke and tomato leaves and a mix of earth-driven, evergreen aromas. The palate clearly shows its warm-climate origins with its rich, concentrated, explosively perfumed red fruit flavors. It admirably retains precision despite this massive frame and is lined with fine-grained, generous tannins. The finish is led by peachy, fruit-driven perfume wi...

There’s gorgeous mid-palate depth and plenty of textural richness, but in the more restrained style that informs these wines today. The long, silky finish is pure class." 94 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberries, spices, sage, thyme and dark earth come through clearly. 89-91 points Burghound: "Note: note the new spelling as INAO is now objecting to the use of Les Echézeaux due to possible confusion with the grand cru despite the identifying village name. Reduction again masks the underlying fruit. By contrast, there is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the succulent yet nicely delineated middleweight flavors that flash a more discreet minerality on the mildly austere but not rustic finale that exhibits sneaky good persistence. 94 points John Gilman: "The 2022 vintage of les Grézeaux from the Baudry family is a great bottle in the making. This is nicely measured in ripeness for such a warm summer, coming in at an even thirteen percent, but no doubt, the fifty-plus year-old vines here navigate extremes during the summer far better than younger vines. The wine’s bouquet is deep, complex and very refined, wafting from the glass in a mix of sweet cassis, black cherries, cigar wrapper, gravelly soil tones, tree bark, espresso and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, ful...
