For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. This is a superb Cabernet-very elegant and user friendly already. Lots of sweet cassis and red fruit aromas that follow to the palate. No hard edges here-drink it young with a prime rib or steak dinner. Will cellar well for five plus years. clyde

90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark in color, with lots of blackberry, mineral, licorice and a hint of toasty oak. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. Balanced and generous, with lots of fruit underneath. (JS)" (03/2008) Decanter: "Lifted cassis and hedgerow fruits. Harmonious balance between ripe, dark fruit, integrated oak, and chewy tannins. Attractive. " (06/2008) Wine Advocate: "A consistently well-made cru bourgeois, this wine exhibits a deep ruby color and a nice, earthy nose with hints of burning embers intermixed with...

Château de Sarenceau is a family property and the 4th generation runs it today. This small estate of only 9 hectares allows a precise and careful work of the vines. This is the first time we have carried this property and it was our biggest buy on April 2022 trip. Rare enough to be underlined, this Saint-Emilion is a 100% Merlot! It offers an evolved nose, with notes of truffle, plum and licorice. The mouth opens with a lot of fruit and freshness, and it finishes with ripe black fruit flavors. A great wine from a great vintage. Will cellar well 10 mor...

96 points Sam Kim: "This is seductively complex and enticing on the nose, showing dark berry, bouquet garni, roasted nut and dried mushroom aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's both refined and robust. It's expansive and finely textured with beautifully pitched tannins, making it splendidly structured and lingering. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2035." (11/2023) 94 points James Suckling: " Very clear and precise on the nose with strawberries, iodine, graphite and some stony undertones. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins, juicy fruit ...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of chocolate, mocha, darker fruits, and dried herb-like notes emerge from the 2012 Château Barde-Haut, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2012. It's showing a touch of maturity yet still has plenty of tannins and structure, good mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I continue to think 2012 was a great vintage for the Right Bank, and this certainly doesn't change my mind." (03/2020) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Offers lovely purity and mouthfeel, with notes of velvety plum, boysenberry and cherry preserves gliding easi...
95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Hair of the Bear is an unusual blend of 75% Petite Syrah and 25% Roussanne. It’s a combination that works so well. Inky dark fruit, licorice, cloves, chocolate and sweet spice all meld together effortlessly, while perfumed floral notes lift the finish. (AG)" (07/2023) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Hair of the Bear is based largely on Petite Sirah but includes a whopping 25% Roussanne, all from the estate Stolpman Vineyard on Ballard Canyon. It follows the house style and is focused and vibrant, with medium to full-bodied ...

92-93 points James Suckling: "This is a wine that shows lots of chocolate, tobacco and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. All there." (04/2011) 93 points Wine Advocate: "The Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very concentrated bouquet with dense blackberry, briary, crushed stone and tobacco on the nose that unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. There is a lot of extraction here, but it is in tune with the acidity and the structured finish has plenty of vibrant red fruit and energy to see it thr...

Goes on for minutes, with so much energy and brightness. Drink or hold." (08/2022) 94 points Wine Advocate: "Following a challenging harvest for Sangiovese, the Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Poggio Valente generates aromas of wild cherry, pressed violet, balsam herb and grilled rosemary. Burghound: "An ultra-fresh and nicely ripe nose freely offers up its pretty aromas of mostly red pinot fruit and soft earth scents. The racy, delicious and attractively textured middleweight flavors conclude in a dusty and lightly austere finale. While this could be approached young, 2 to 5 years of keeping should round off the finish and develop more depth." (01/2024) Jasper Morris: "Plots on the sand for the most part. A bright purple. Lean, austere, fresh. Red berries with even a chocolate note behind. Drier finish but enough fruit. Ready to bottle....

A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a great mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great, great finish." A remarkable expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most respected producers in the Barolo region, Massolino delivers a Langhe Nebbiolo that captures the essence of the grape in a more approachable style. Sourced from younger vines and vineyard sites outside of the Barolo DOCG, this Nebbiolo showcases the craftsmanship and tradition that the Massolino family has been dedicated to since 1896. 93 points James Suckling: "Here comes an intense and fruit-expressive Rosso di Montalcino that delivers excellent richness and freshness on the nose. Mineral, ripe strawberries, red plums and walnuts to the nose follow through to a tight, medium- to full-bodied palate. Quite vertical and structured with lots of tannins that give a comfortably grippy closure to the long, tight finish. A serious, outstanding Rosso di Montalcino. 96 points Vinous: "The 2019 Gloria has a compelling nose: black fruit, crushed rocks, tobacco and very subtle marine scents that are all beautifully combined. Perhaps the most precise and delineated nose among an impressive array of Saint-Julien's this year. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively opening. A touch of soy infuses the black fruit; fine-boned with wonderful sapidity on the finish. Extraordinary length. Serious. 94 points Decanter: "The palate has massive intensity of fruit flavour – watermelon, wild strawberry tip, a bit of dried thyme, salty toasted sourdough, macerated just-ripe strawberries, cranberries, wild oats and Moroccan spice box, with lacy acidity pulling through the fruit intensity. Savoury characters and fruit notes walk the line well. Finely layered texture, plenty of fruit phenolics, and some grippier and slightly grainier oak tannins. The oak offers a little toastiness and slight vanilla fringing. An equilibrium of fruit, acid, structure and wei...

95 points The Wine Independent: "The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande is medium to deep garnet in color. Intense notes of Morello cherries, creme de cassis, and plum preserves spill from the glass, plus touches of mint tea, iron ore, and dried roses. The medium-bodied palate is taut with muscular black fruits and fantastic tension, framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and fragrant. Simply beautiful! The sanguine fruitiness and earthy notes continue onto the palate, but polished tannins and lithe acid create a round texture. (DC)" (12/2023) 94 points Wine Advocate: "The Tenuta La Massa 2020 La Massa, with 100,000 bottles produced, offers great value across the board. A hint of floral aromas with cassis, dark-fleshed plum, blackberry and a subtle seasoning of spicy oak. Delicious wine that can be appreciated now." (11/2023) 97 points Raymond Chan: "Bright, ruby-red with good transparency, slightly lighter on the rim. One of K&L's very finest buys from France, this is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. We love these wines for their fresh...

The Verdicchio di Matelica region is renowned for producing some of the most complex and age-worthy Verdicchios in Italy, and Casa Lucciola’s Riserva is a stellar example of the quality this area can achieve. The 2020 vintage was marked by a near-perfect growing season, resulting in a wine with incredible freshness, depth, and balance.
On the nose, this Verdicchio Riserva bursts with aromas of citrus blossom, green apple, and white peach, layered with notes of almond, wild herbs, and a touch of wet stone minerality. The palate is structured yet lively, ...
95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Pinot Noir Terraces has deep aromas of pomegranate liqueur, Italian plum, blood orange, iron, mushrooms and mossy bark. 95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Lytton Springs is fabulous. Bright and vibrant to its core, the 2021 impresses with its poise. Readers will find a Lytton Springs that is very much in reserve, as opposed to the rest of the 2021s in this report, all of which are more approachable. Salivating acids and veins of tannin lend shape and persistence, but the 2021 needs time. Red cherry fruit, blood orange, rose petal and sage are some of the notes that linger on the close. Boutique winery Vinoce continues to impress. Little surprise when you consider their wines are made by much-heralded winemaker Keith Emerson of Vineyard 29! Emerson crafts some of the most highly sought-after cult Cabs in the valley from St. Helena fruit at Vineyard 29, including wines rated at 100-points by Robert Parker himself. Considering that pedigree, Vinoce's St. Helena Cab is very well priced at the regular $60 SRP, but at our Insider's Advantage price of over 50% off, it's just plain ridiculous.

91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2022 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Christophe should easily be outstanding. It's made in a slightly more modern style, with some new oak, but it has a classic vibe in its smoky darker fruits and peppery, meaty aromatics. Medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated, with building tannins, it's going to 2-3 years of bottle age and will evolve nicely over the following decade." (03/2024) 90-93 points Vinous: "The 2022 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Christophe uses fruit from up to 70-year-old vines. Ripe tannins provide good structure to...

From K&L On the Trail blog: "Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last three-plus decades. His wines from Burgundy's Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation are known as great values, and both the reds and whites are equally strong. Giboulot's wines straddle the line between traditional and modern, with reds that have crunchier fruit and fine tannins, but plenty of ripeness and purity. The whites are done in a feminine style with rounder fruit and ...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A big, meaty, mineral-laced Syrah, the dense purple-hued 2020 Cotes Catalanes Secret De Schistes offers up a great nose of blackberries, roasted herbs, chocolate, and graphite that develops more meaty and leather notes with time in the glass. Full-bodied, concentrated, and rich, it hits the palate with a soft, supple, seamless mouthfeel, impressive tannins, and a great finish." 96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Grenache is red fruited and lusty, with really entrenched fleshy fruit characters on the nose, and this translates fluidly in the mouth, where you find blood and pastrami, raspberry pip, red licorice, layers of pomegranate and ironstone, iodine and rust. This is a superb wine; it feels vast and open, rich and fresh. You can't fake this kind of fruit intensity; it's either in the vineyard, or it's not. And here, it is." 96 points James Suckling: "This is the wine of this cooler vintage. The temperature ebbs, peripatetic at times, seem to have disadvantaged those varieties that ripen very late. Here, there are firm but sinuous tannins. A briny nose, demur yet brimming with intent. Dried black olive, pithy and chewy. Iodine, darker fruits, charcuterie, pimento and white pepper, ground across a long skein of freshness, melding with the ferrous and almost gritty salt-crusted tannins. Reminiscent of a good Cornas, this is fine, savory, mid-weighted syrah. Drinkable now, but ...

96 points James Suckling: "Superlative mourvedre and certainly the leading light for the variety in Australia. Briny, chewy and gorgeous in its savory guise, this is a powerful expression bound to such a taut tannic fabric, underlain by spice and a tuft of dried herb, that there is not for a moment any excess of sweet fruit. Lots of chomp, depth and layers, oozing tapenade, saddle leather, sweet loamy earth, martini brine, menthol and violet notes, with raspberry bon-bon lurking. A wonderful wine deserving of serious praise and cellar time. Best after 20...

The tannins that shape the fruit in the mouth are whisper fine and curl and curve their way across the tongue. This is a beautiful wine with grace and poise."
