93 points Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP)" (12/1988) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Medium ruby-red. Aromas of milk chocolate, plum, mint and violet. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and lots of berry and cherry fruit. Ve...

97 points James Suckling: "This is really glorious and refined, offering a polished and creamy texture. Complex aromas and flavors with cream, dried fruit and nuts. Medium body. Very beautiful. A refined and glorious 1977 now. Real deal." (01/2017) 93 points Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years. (RP)" (01/1989) 92 points Wine ...

97 points Wine Spectator: "Amazing color. Dark ruby center, with just a hint of garnet. This is very impressive on the nose. Crushed raspberry, coffee, licorice and chocolate. Complex. What a palate. Big, rich and powerful, yet balanced and pleasing. Full, medium-sweet and caressing. Silky. Drink it for the rest of your life. Why wait? Underrated around the world. (JS, Web Only—2008)" 94-95 points Wine Advocate: "One of the great, possibly overlooking ’77 vintage ports. This has a deep garnet hue with an intense dark chocolate, sloe and raisin nose. It ...

100 points Wine Spectator: " *1997 Wine of the Year and Cellar Selection* Hold on to your hat. This is the best Fonseca since 1977, and it's probably even better than that classic vintage--more like the breathtaking 1948. Mind-blowing, with masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Smells like fermenting berries, boasting loads of crushed grape, violet and berry character. Big, full-bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish. Tannic and huge, it's a long-term, great Port. Best after 2012." (04/1997) 97 points Wine Advocate: "One of ...

95 points Wine Advocate: "Taylor Fladgate's 1991 Quinta de Vargellas is the finest Vargellas I have tasted. The opaque purple color is followed by aromatics that are more closed than most 1991s. In the mouth, it is a wine of extraordinary richness and brilliantly delineated components. This exceptionally rich, backward port possesses layer upon layer of fruit, a thick, chewy, unctuous texture, firm structure and tannin, and a finish that lasts for more than a minute. (RP)" (02/1995) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Starting to show bottle bouquet, with beaut...

91 points Wine Spectator: "There is still plenty of fresh, youthful fruit here. Medium ruby-red, with an intense floral and berry nose, medium-bodied, with rich, sweet fruit flavors, medium tannins and a lingering finish. Very good fruit. (JS, Web Only—1989)" Jancis Robinson: "Deep, vibrant ruby with very pale rim. Big, broad, rich nose – quite burly and autumnal. More powerful than the 1963 – with more obvious alcohol. Excellent balance again but with sweet, very direct attack. Dry, energetic finish. This is all power and bounce rather than the subtlet...

95 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Vintners Company’s 650th anniversary celebration at Vintners Hall, the Fonseca 1970 was the finest bottle I have encountered. The bouquet opens beautifully with heady scents of clove, ginger, small red cherries, bergamot and allspice, displaying exquisite definition and harmony. The palate follows suit with lovely balance and poise in the mouth, notes of kirsch, shaved ginger and walnut building to an opulent, viscous finish that lacquers the mouth. Yet this bottle shows more control than the bottle tasted four yea...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged tawny Ports from Ferreira are always things of beauty. This 30-year-old win, in its impressive bottle, is no exception. It is textured, bringing together old wood aging, concentration and immense depth of flavor. This wonderful wine is ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2022) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Alluring, with dried white peach, golden raisin and sandalwood notes leading the way, while hints of elderberry, white sesame and praline emerge on the finish. Stylish and lovely. Drink now. 158 cases made. (JM)" (10/2023) 93 po...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The NV 40 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled with a bar top cork in 2014. It comes in with 125 grams per liter of residual sugar. Big, weighty and mouth filling, this is an aromatic Tawny that finishes with acidity and tension. Gripping on the finish, its flavors become more interesting as long as it sits in the glass (or on your palate). It is not, perhaps, as sunny as the Fonseca, its sibling reviewed this issue, but it is denser and more gripping. Comparing to the Taylor 30 (also reviewed), I'm not sure I liked the 40 here all t...

97 points James Suckling: "Aromas of balsamic, mahogany, Georgian furniture and dried fruits. Salted dried almonds. Medium-bodied, very sweet. Sultanas. Figs. Yet fresh and intensely flavored with a long, long finish. Love the finish. Salted caramel. " (12/2023) 97 points Wine Advocate: "The NV 50 Year Old Tawny Port is a field blend bottled with a bar-top cork in 2022 and with 158 grams of residual sugar. Mature, with dark chocolate nuances, this is rich, deep and sensationally delicious. The concentration is exceptional too. Then, there's the long, l...

97 points Decanter: "A step up on the tawny ladder, reflected by the paler tawny colour and copperish tones on the rim; a touch singed on the nose with roasted coffee and an undertone of crème brûlée on the nose and palate (queimada in Portuguese). Concentrated butterscotch sweetness, a touch honeyed but not cloying as the acidity cuts in and offsets this, leading to a long, beautifully poised finish. (RM)" (11/2021) 96 points James Suckling: "Dried cherries, plums and candied fruit with some figs on the nose. Light toffee, too. Medium-to full-bodied, ...

98 points Decanter: "Lovely deep red-tinged mahogany colour. Beautifully lifted and aromatic on the nose, just a touch of singed crocante with dried fruit, roasted chestnuts and toasted almonds. Wonderfully lithe, creamy-textured fruit on the palate, with greengage freshness plus the sweetness of an Elvas plum (160g/l residual sugar). Mesmerisingly persistent sugar and spice (and all things nice) on the finish. Bid on this bottle of 1977 Taylor Vintage Port (98VN, 97WS, 96RP, 95WE, 93JG). Vinous: "The 1977 Taylor's Vintage Port is initially tight and conservative on the nose: strawberry, baked cherry, tobacco and wild hedgerow notes emerging but remaining tight-lipped. This needs a good decant! The palate is endowed with depth and concentration, very well balanced with an attractive crispness. Perhaps you could argue that it is a 'linear' and more 'correct' Taylor's compared to the 1970 and lacks some charm. But there is immense complexity here so it is more a case of a Port demanding a very long maturation in bottle. (NM)" (06/2018)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1977 Dow's Vintage Port (97JS, 93RP, 92WS). James Suckling: "This is really glorious and refined, offering a polished and creamy texture. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Warre's Vintage Port (OWC - 97W&S, 96DC, 96JS, 96WE, 96WS, (93-95RP), 93VN) in original wood. Wine & Spirits: "Half of the lot for this wine comes from the Quinta da Cavadinha, Warre’s property on the western bank of the Pinhão River, a relatively cool site facing east. The balance is from Retiro, in the Rio Torto and Telhada, a property in the Douro Superior the Symingtons purchased in 2006. Old-vine mixed plantings make up 40 percent of the blend, lending it the kind of co-fermented complexity that makes this compellingly drinkable, delicious right now, as it will be for at least the next 20 or 30 years. Its graceful, reserved finish lasts with drive, a blend of green olive, blueberry skin, purple and blackberry flavors layered over the scent of roses, esteva, black pepper and the wild Douro scrub. If you’re looking to fall in love with Port, you could start here." (12/2013)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1995 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port (92WS). Wine Spectator: "Still fresh, with a redder profile of cherry, raspberry and anise seed notes. Shows a sweet edge to the finish, but stays restrained and elegant overall, with charming cedar and sandalwood accents checking in. Very enjoyable now. -- Non-blind Quinta do Noval vertical (JM)" (05/2018)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Graham's Vintage Port (98JS, 98WS, 96DC, 94RP, 94ST). James Suckling: "Aromas of dried fruits, raisins and Christmas cake. Some chocolate undertones too, plus licorice and wet earth. Full body, medium sweet with gorgeous depth and intensity of fruit. So long and beautiful. What an amazing finish already. So sexy.... this will go on for decades." (11/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 1977 Fonseca Vintage Port (100JS, 100WS, 95JG). James Suckling: "I found a bottle of 1977 Fonseca in my cellar - probably my last. It was absolutely gorgeous. I gave this fortified wine a perfect score in its youth and I think it has finally evolved into its perfection as a mature vintage Port... This is in total balance now with such harmony. What amazing aromas of berry and flowers. Full and sweet, the tannins are complete dissolved. The fruit is perfect. This goes on for minutes. Drink now. But it will go forever." (06/2016)
Current Bid: $150.00
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1997 Dow's Vintage Port (95WS, 94WE, 92ST). Wine Spectator: "Warm and inviting, with a worn leather feel to the mix of dried anise, espresso, bittersweet cocoa, steeped fig and mulled currant notes, which move seamlessly together through the buckwheat-edged finish. There's plenty here to like now, but this has ample energy for additional development. *Top 100 Wine of 2000* (JM, Web-2017)"
Current Bid: $285.00
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1970 Taylor Vintage Port (99WE, 98RP, 98VN, 98WS, 94JG). Wine Enthusiast: "This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC)" (02/2007)
