93 points Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP)" (12/1988) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Medium ruby-red. Aromas of milk chocolate, plum, mint and violet. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and lots of berry and cherry fruit. Ve...

97 points James Suckling: "This is really glorious and refined, offering a polished and creamy texture. Complex aromas and flavors with cream, dried fruit and nuts. Medium body. Very beautiful. A refined and glorious 1977 now. Real deal." (01/2017) 93 points Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years. (RP)" (01/1989) 92 points Wine ...

97 points Wine Spectator: "Amazing color. Dark ruby center, with just a hint of garnet. This is very impressive on the nose. Crushed raspberry, coffee, licorice and chocolate. Complex. What a palate. Big, rich and powerful, yet balanced and pleasing. Full, medium-sweet and caressing. Silky. Drink it for the rest of your life. Why wait? Underrated around the world. (JS, Web Only—2008)" 94-95 points Wine Advocate: "One of the great, possibly overlooking ’77 vintage ports. This has a deep garnet hue with an intense dark chocolate, sloe and raisin nose. It ...

92 points John Gilman: "It has been a few years since I last tasted the ’77 Croft, but based on the last couple of bottles of this lovely wine that I tasted, this is clearly one of the fine sleepers of the vintage. Much like the beautiful 1963 Croft that I drank with great regularity in the 1980s and 1990s when it could be bought for an extremely reasonable tariff, the 1977 delivers outstanding bang for the buck. The bouquet is a forward and flashy blend of ripe plums, black cherries, chocolate, tobacco, violets and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is...

100 points Wine Spectator: " *1997 Wine of the Year and Cellar Selection* Hold on to your hat. This is the best Fonseca since 1977, and it's probably even better than that classic vintage--more like the breathtaking 1948. Mind-blowing, with masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Smells like fermenting berries, boasting loads of crushed grape, violet and berry character. Big, full-bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish. Tannic and huge, it's a long-term, great Port. Best after 2012." (04/1997) 97 points Wine Advocate: "One of ...

95 points Wine Advocate: "Taylor Fladgate's 1991 Quinta de Vargellas is the finest Vargellas I have tasted. The opaque purple color is followed by aromatics that are more closed than most 1991s. In the mouth, it is a wine of extraordinary richness and brilliantly delineated components. This exceptionally rich, backward port possesses layer upon layer of fruit, a thick, chewy, unctuous texture, firm structure and tannin, and a finish that lasts for more than a minute. (RP)" (02/1995) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Starting to show bottle bouquet, with beaut...

91 points Wine Spectator: "There is still plenty of fresh, youthful fruit here. Medium ruby-red, with an intense floral and berry nose, medium-bodied, with rich, sweet fruit flavors, medium tannins and a lingering finish. Very good fruit. (JS, Web Only—1989)" Jancis Robinson: "Deep, vibrant ruby with very pale rim. Big, broad, rich nose – quite burly and autumnal. More powerful than the 1963 – with more obvious alcohol. Excellent balance again but with sweet, very direct attack. Dry, energetic finish. This is all power and bounce rather than the subtlet...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged tawny Ports from Ferreira are always things of beauty. This 30-year-old win, in its impressive bottle, is no exception. It is textured, bringing together old wood aging, concentration and immense depth of flavor. This wonderful wine is ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2022) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Alluring, with dried white peach, golden raisin and sandalwood notes leading the way, while hints of elderberry, white sesame and praline emerge on the finish. Stylish and lovely. Drink now. 158 cases made. (JM)" (10/2023) 93 po...

97 points Decanter: "A step up on the tawny ladder, reflected by the paler tawny colour and copperish tones on the rim; a touch singed on the nose with roasted coffee and an undertone of crème brûlée on the nose and palate (queimada in Portuguese). Concentrated butterscotch sweetness, a touch honeyed but not cloying as the acidity cuts in and offsets this, leading to a long, beautifully poised finish. (RM)" (11/2021) 96 points James Suckling: "Dried cherries, plums and candied fruit with some figs on the nose. Light toffee, too. Medium-to full-bodied, ...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The NV 40 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled with a bar top cork in 2014. It comes in with 125 grams per liter of residual sugar. Big, weighty and mouth filling, this is an aromatic Tawny that finishes with acidity and tension. Gripping on the finish, its flavors become more interesting as long as it sits in the glass (or on your palate). It is not, perhaps, as sunny as the Fonseca, its sibling reviewed this issue, but it is denser and more gripping. Comparing to the Taylor 30 (also reviewed), I'm not sure I liked the 40 here all t...

97 points James Suckling: "Aromas of balsamic, mahogany, Georgian furniture and dried fruits. Salted dried almonds. Medium-bodied, very sweet. Sultanas. Figs. Yet fresh and intensely flavored with a long, long finish. Love the finish. Salted caramel. " (12/2023) 97 points Wine Advocate: "The NV 50 Year Old Tawny Port is a field blend bottled with a bar-top cork in 2022 and with 158 grams of residual sugar. Mature, with dark chocolate nuances, this is rich, deep and sensationally delicious. The concentration is exceptional too. Then, there's the long, l...

98 points Decanter: "Lovely deep red-tinged mahogany colour. Beautifully lifted and aromatic on the nose, just a touch of singed crocante with dried fruit, roasted chestnuts and toasted almonds. Wonderfully lithe, creamy-textured fruit on the palate, with greengage freshness plus the sweetness of an Elvas plum (160g/l residual sugar). Mesmerisingly persistent sugar and spice (and all things nice) on the finish. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port (100JS, 98WE, 98WS, 97VN, 96DC, 96RP). James Suckling: "OMG. This is really the most amazing young Taylor's I have ever tasted. Full-bodied and lightly sweet with super power and intensity. So racy and focused. Yet this has such muscle and intensity. Needs at least eight years to show you everything it has to offer." (05/2018)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1970 Taylor Vintage Port (99WE, 98RP, 98VN, 98WS, 94JG). Wine Enthusiast: "This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC)" (02/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port (96WS). Wine Spectator: "Great dark color. Intense aromas of blackberry, stem and earth. Very powerful and youthful nose. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with lots of milk chocolate, spice and berry character. Layered and balanced. So enjoyable. But just a baby. I remember this 10 years ago. It is really fantastic. Underrated by many, including me. (JS)" (02/2008)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1985 Fonseca Vintage Port (93RP, 93WS, 91DC). Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Fonseca is still youthful in appearance with hardly any ageing on the rim. The nose offers kirsch, sloes and Christmas cake. With time, there are subtle notes of dried fig and dates beginning to emerge and add to the complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced on the supple, rounded entry. It is not quite as complex as the aromatics, with dates and dried fig, the finish mellow and refined. It is very elegant for a Fonseca, weighty but supremely well focused. This is a fabulous Fonseca that is ready to drink now, but will age for another 30 or 40 years. (NM)" (02/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 1970 Warre's Tercentenary Vintage Port (91JS). James Suckling: "Surprisingly delicate and fruity at this stage. Ready to drink with a lightly sweet fruit, raspberry, and dark berry character and a bright acidity." (12/2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1977 Taylor Vintage Port (98VN, 97WS, 96RP, 95WE, 93JG). Vinous: "The 1977 Taylor's Vintage Port is initially tight and conservative on the nose: strawberry, baked cherry, tobacco and wild hedgerow notes emerging but remaining tight-lipped. This needs a good decant! The palate is endowed with depth and concentration, very well balanced with an attractive crispness. Perhaps you could argue that it is a 'linear' and more 'correct' Taylor's compared to the 1970 and lacks some charm. But there is immense complexity here so it is more a case of a Port demanding a very long maturation in bottle. (NM)" (06/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Quinta do Noval "Nacional" Vintage Port (96WS, 94ST, 93JG). Shows some wild herb and violet notes as well, gaining intensity and grip through the finish. Tightly focused and very distinctive. (JM, Web-2018)"
