The wonderful Glengoyne distillery is always one to keep an eye. Built in 1833, it was sold by Archiball Macllelan to the Lang Brothers where it remained until 1965 when it was purchased by a predecessor organization to Edrington Group. In 2003, it was sold to blenders and bottlers Ian Macleod and they've rightfully made Glengoyne a worldwide brand. They're famous for their sherried malt and it's rare to see a butt make it out of their warehouses under anyone else's label. That's why we were so excited to see this pop up and when we tasted it we knew we ...

2005 Undisclosed Jamaica 17 Year Old "Golden Devil" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Jamaican Rum (700ml)
This phenomenal barrel of rum will forever be a mystery. Wild speculation exists about its source and the bottler has absolutely zero information from the source about its marque. Those circumstances are highly unusual considering the quality and character of the rum in question. But, if you notice similar batches out there, there are only a handful of distillers that could supply this rum. Worthy Park, we've had others from the vintage and they have always included the blenders marque. The distillery was only selling in bulk at the time and their stocks...

This exceptional find is one of the very best values K&L has ever been able to offer. Glenrothes is truly one of Speyside's most prized distillers, and its extremely unusual for them to let go of heavily sherried stocks, let alone something that's aged over 18 years. This one was distilled in February of 2005 and aged for 18 years in a first fill sherry butt. The results speak for themselves, a dense powerful malt style full of powerful spice and complex sherry. The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in the town of Rothes in 1879 by James Stuart & Co., ow...

The Old Malt Cask line of single cask single malts was created by the Laing brothers in 1998. They've since bottled countless legendary single malt and continue to surprise and delight connoisseurs with their diverse range of exceptionally selected single casks. Unlike K&L's Exclusive single casks, Old Malt Cask is traditionally bottled at 100 proof, but always without chillfiltration or coloring of any kind. The Laings selected a diverse range of malts to celebrate 25 years in the single cask business, picking out choice casks and bottling them in the g...

98 points James Suckling: "Really beautiful and silky with perfectly ripe strawberries, chocolate, hazelnut and light toffee in both the nose and on the palate. Full-bodied yet tensioned and focused. Very fine tannins. It goes on for minutes. Love. " (03/2023) 96 points Bob Campbell: "Lacking depth of colour but showing surprising power with flavours that suggest red cherry, floral/red rose and fresh herb flavours. Vibrant, high energy pinot noir that will mellow with bottle age. Elegant wine. *Five-Star Gold Rating* (BC)" (12/2023) K&L Notes: The Be...

A good nicely aged Mortlach is something we wish we could offer more readily. Make it stupidly drinkable and at an unbelievably generous price, and we’ll drop nearly everything else. This attractive little refill hogshead is a dreamy, offering malt driven style from the Beast of Dufftown. You can visit a bona fide Fairy Village in Dufftown these days or the famous Giant's Chair, but the wonderful distillery in the gully by the stream to the south of town is arguably the town's most magical spot. The Mortlach makes an extremely unique malt. The distillati...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2009 Branaire-Ducru is another killer wine from this vintage that’s drinking spectacularly well at age 10. Based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it’s still ruby/purple color is followed by a huge nose of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, cedar box, and even a hint of forest floor. Full-bodied, broad, expansive, and layered on the palate, it builds nicely with time in the glass, has sweet tannins, no hard edges, and a blockbuster finish. Bravo!" Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable, " according to the Burgundy Report.

(06/2023) 96 points Vinous: "The 2020 Barbaresco Vigneto Valeirano is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, graphite, sage, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and incense infuse the 2020 with tremendous complexity. Powerful but not overdone, the 2020 should evolve well for many years to come. (AG)" (10/2023) 95 points James Suckling: "Very floral with both fresh and dried flowers on the nose as well as cherries and hibiscus with some sliced strawberries. The Marchesi Antinori 2021 Tignanello (made with 79% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc) pulls on all the heartstrings. To be released in May, the wine shows a quintessentially pretty taste profile with tart fruit flavors, redcurrant, tea leaf, heritage rose, crushed white pepper, licorice, nutmeg, clove and chopped mint. There is once again excellent vibrancy to the dense but well-detailed medium weight flavors that exude a subtle bead of minerality on the compact, complex, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. (01/2017) 93 points Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years. 98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The flagship 2019 Château Léoville Poyferré is based on 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot. It's one of the bigger, richer wines in the vintage and has a gorgeous, thrilling, full-bodied style as well as notes of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, violets, and chocolate. While many estates seem to be playing it safe and focusing on so-called elegance and balance, I love that Poyferré continues to make a ripe, sexy, beautifully textured wine that always offers more opulence and sexiness than most in the vi...

Full-bodied with layers of ripe fruit and ultra-fine tannins that spread across the palate in an encompassing yet always elegant and pure way. It’s succulent and unadulterated. Like crushed, perfectly ripened grapes. The length is rather endless. The tannins build. Fabulous young red. Allen Meadows of Burghound writes: "The Camus family has been a fixture in Gevrey-Chambertin for more than two centuries. In about 1850 the cultivation of vines had already been started by the family. Thanks to acquisitions made by successive generations, the vineyard area today comprises about 18 ha, with almost two-thirds of it composed by the grands crus of Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazy-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin, as well as various village holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. Impressively the domaine has been bottlin...

91 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Very good dark red-ruby. Explosive, perfumed, ripe cabernet aromas of cassis, coffee, leather and game; more precise and subtle than those of the '97. Sweet, intensely flavored and strong in extract; enlivened by solid acidity. Finishes very long, with firm, tongue-coating tannins. Very strong wine, as precise and scented on the back half as on the front. "Like the '86 but with more finesse and aromatic complexity," says Pauli. (ST)" (05/1998) 91 points Vinous: "Dark ruby. 97 points John Gilman: " The 1959 Yquem is a great vintage and the wine is at its absolute zenith at the present time and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The utterly profound bouquet soars from the glass in a blaze of oranges, white cherries, honeyed nuts, crème brulée, new leather, great minerality, barley sugar and gentle topnotes of candied orange peel. (04/2024) 93 points Jane Anson: "Easily the best Pauillac de Latour in recent years, showing supple tannins at five years old, textured and rippling with juice, opening to show gourmet smoked plum and blueberry fruit. Has the graphite edge of the appellation, waves of cocoa bean, liqourice and smoked earth, and the balance of 2019. The structure is already welcoming, even if the fruit young, a...

Deep garnet colored, it rolls easily, sensuously out of the glass with evolving fruit notes of baked blackcurrants, plum preserves, mulberries and fruitcake plus underlying suggestions of charcuterie, camphor, chocolate-covered cherries and candied violets with just a touch of cast iron pan. Sporting a dense purple hue as well as an incredible perfume of blackcurrants, crushed stone, cedar pencil, smoke tobacco, and baking spices, it s rich, full-bodied, and voluptuously textured, with ripe yet building tannins. It reminds me slightly of the 2010 (maybe the 2013), and I suspect it will have a similar evolution. Hide bottles fo...

The driest year at Cheval Blanc since 1959, with 71% of production from the 39ha estate in this wine, technical director Pierre Olivier Clouet. 96 points Jane Anson: "High levels of Cabernet Sauvignon, a reflection of how well this grape did in the 2016 vintage as well as replanting in the vineyards, and you start to see the Giscours of today. Beautiful, this for me is hugely better than the 2009, with creaminess to the texture, and plenty of dark ripe fruit character, paired with grip and understated power, opening through to bitter chocolate, sage, liqourice and campfire smoke. Great quality, full of energy and saline kick. Second year with Denis Dubourdieu as consultant, 50% new oak. Simonit ...
