98 points John Gilman: "The 2015 Louis Roederer Cristal is composed this year from a cépages of sixty percent pinot noir and forty percent chardonnay, with twenty-five percent of the vins clairs raised in oak barrels. As is customary, the still wines do not go through malolactic fermentation for Cristal and the wine was finished with a dosage of seven grams per liter in this vintage, after aging nearly seven years sur lattes. It delivers a beautifully refined aromatic constellation of apple, nectarine, a superbly complex base of chalky minerality, a touc...

The wonderful Glengoyne distillery is always one to keep an eye. Built in 1833, it was sold by Archiball Macllelan to the Lang Brothers where it remained until 1965 when it was purchased by a predecessor organization to Edrington Group. In 2003, it was sold to blenders and bottlers Ian Macleod and they've rightfully made Glengoyne a worldwide brand. They're famous for their sherried malt and it's rare to see a butt make it out of their warehouses under anyone else's label. That's why we were so excited to see this pop up and when we tasted it we knew we ...

97 points Decanter: "The 172ème édition, based around the 2016 vintage, is a delicate, floral and saline Grande Cuvée at this early stage in its life. The palate it taut, tightly wound, gradually unfurling into toasted fruit bread, rye bread and roasted nuts, wrapped around an intricate and taut lemon core. It's exceptionally long, spicy, rounded and spherical in shape. Notes of sweet unsalted butter round out the finish, which has such length, elegance and balance. 58% of the wine is from the 2016 vintage, which saw a lot of rain in the spring and close...

2005 Undisclosed Jamaica 17 Year Old "Golden Devil" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Jamaican Rum (700ml)
This phenomenal barrel of rum will forever be a mystery. Wild speculation exists about its source and the bottler has absolutely zero information from the source about its marque. Those circumstances are highly unusual considering the quality and character of the rum in question. But, if you notice similar batches out there, there are only a handful of distillers that could supply this rum. Worthy Park, we've had others from the vintage and they have always included the blenders marque. The distillery was only selling in bulk at the time and their stocks...

This exceptional find is one of the very best values K&L has ever been able to offer. Glenrothes is truly one of Speyside's most prized distillers, and its extremely unusual for them to let go of heavily sherried stocks, let alone something that's aged over 18 years. This one was distilled in February of 2005 and aged for 18 years in a first fill sherry butt. The results speak for themselves, a dense powerful malt style full of powerful spice and complex sherry. The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in the town of Rothes in 1879 by James Stuart & Co., ow...

The Old Malt Cask line of single cask single malts was created by the Laing brothers in 1998. They've since bottled countless legendary single malt and continue to surprise and delight connoisseurs with their diverse range of exceptionally selected single casks. Unlike K&L's Exclusive single casks, Old Malt Cask is traditionally bottled at 100 proof, but always without chillfiltration or coloring of any kind. The Laings selected a diverse range of malts to celebrate 25 years in the single cask business, picking out choice casks and bottling them in the g...

Old grain is becoming extremely rare and difficult to source. Where we once had unlimited access, we've been takenaback by how expensive even lesser grain has become. But quality single grain has also found an audience and this awesome Invergordon will be stupendous news for those already initiated and an enticing invitiation to those who are not. The Invergordon Distillery was founded relatively late in the Scotch game by famed blenders Whyte & Mackay. Built in 1959, it boasts 3 coffey style column stills and a massive capacity 36 million liters of alco...

95 points James Suckling: "A cool site with meager topsoil, Sechet is a cru that serves warmer years well, delivering tension and refinement. Very linear, showing typical Chablis character along with its vibrant acidity. Aniseed and mint with hints of toast and chestnuts. More delineated and voluminous than so-called classic vintages, but still pulls the saliva and tingles the tongue in readiness for the next glass. Excellent showing of this wine. Drinkable now, but best from 2026." (03/2024) 92-94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet...

93 points Wine Spectator: "A surprise, showing plenty of ripe and exotic fruit for the vintage. Dark-ruby in color, with ripe plum and earth character. Full-bodied, with a long chocolate, berry finish." (11/1997) 90 points Wine Advocate: "Undoubtedly a top success for the vintage, Pichon-Lalande's 1979 exhibits a dark garnet color with some amber at the edge. It offers a fragrant, cedary, roasted herb, and cassis-scented nose. Rich, with medium body, well-integrated tannin, and some acidity, this is the quintessentially elegant style of Bordeaux that i...

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. There's great fruit here, lovely ripe dark plums and black cherry flavors pushing through the hugely sweet tannins. It's very opulent, a great full-fruited wine. (RV)" (06/2006) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "A gravel wash of tannin creates the structural base for this wine, spreading red currant and licorice root flavors through a long finish. The fruit is bold and supple, the mineral flavor providing tension that will sustain the wine as it ages over the next decade. For braised lamb." (10/2008) 90 points W...

John Gilman: "The Bonville family owns twenty hectares of vines in the villages of Cramant, Avize and Oger, with the domaine now co-run by Gilles Bonville and his son, Olivier... The impressively complex bouquet is quite fine, offering up a deep and complex nose of pear, apple, lemon blossoms, chalk, a hint of pastry cream, orange peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and zesty, with a good core, elegant mousse and an overt dose of new wood on the long finish." 95 points Decanter: "Although this appears as the 'house' non-vintage, in character it is more akin to a vintage wine that needs some time on cork. Tasted young, the saturated fruit—apricot, spiced apples, grilled lemons—is already expressive, yet not fully unsprung. Based on 2018 with 40% reserves back to 2016, the heat of 2018 is in the fruit profile rather than weight or grip, and is more about persistence than pure power, underlined by the oak élevage yet not coloured by it. 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay. 100% ba...

Very fine tannins. It goes on for minutes. Love. " (03/2023) 96 points Bob Campbell: "Lacking depth of colour but showing surprising power with flavours that suggest red cherry, floral/red rose and fresh herb flavours. Vibrant, high energy pinot noir that will mellow with bottle age. Elegant wine. *Five-Star Gold Rating* (BC)" (12/2023) K&L Notes: The Be...

94 points Vinous: "A host of Cabernet Sauvignon-infused aromas make a strong opening statement in the 1978 Pichon Lalande. There is certainly no shortage of power or character. If anything, the 1978 is perhaps a bit lacking in mid-palate depth, which gives it an element of austerity. Aside from that small critique, the 1978 is deeply expressive and gorgeous. (AG)" (10/2017) 93 points John Gilman: "I have drunk an awful lot of 1978 Pichon-Lalande over the years, as this was one of the current vintages of the wine in the market when I was first discoveri...

A good nicely aged Mortlach is something we wish we could offer more readily. Make it stupidly drinkable and at an unbelievably generous price, and we’ll drop nearly everything else. This attractive little refill hogshead is a dreamy, offering malt driven style from the Beast of Dufftown. You can visit a bona fide Fairy Village in Dufftown these days or the famous Giant's Chair, but the wonderful distillery in the gully by the stream to the south of town is arguably the town's most magical spot. The Mortlach makes an extremely unique malt. The distillati...

Pronounced floral notes rise up from the glass, mingling with ripe red fruits, orange rind, cedar and delicate earthy subtleties. Despite the warm vintage, there’s no trace of heat in this refreshing 2022, showing stylistic similarities to the outstanding 2020. Ripe tannins provide excellent grip to what will surely be an energetic and exuberant Gonon with secure aging potential. Wine Advocate: "This is a very attractive Leoville-Barton that seems to be developing at a more accelerated pace than I had initially expected. A lovely, rather full, big bouquet of smoky, berryish, ripe fruit is first class. On the palate, the wine shows a good cedary, spicy, deep fruity constitution, moderate tannins, and a long finish. (RP)" (12/1997) Wine Spectator: "A firm, chunky style, with explosive red cherry and currant flavors, fairly high alcohol and tannin and solid flavors on the finish." (02/1992)

This is very classy, purer and fresher, with all the little stones queuing up at the end of the palate, savoury but with fresh white fruit all around, much less dry than Séchet. Fine long finish. Drink from 2029-2038. " (09/2023) 92-94 points Wine Advocate: "Bursting with notes of white flowers, orange zest, nutmeg and iodine, the 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with bright acids and a long, expansive and perfumed finish. (07/2024) 98 points Vinous: "The 2013 Comtes de Champagne is a towering Champagne, as it was last year. 93 points Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP)" (12/1988) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Medium ruby-red. Blanc de blancs from Bouzy? Yes--and what a blanc de blancs it is! This single-varietal, single-vineyard, single-harvest Champagne comes entirely from the Les Motellettes parcel which was planted in 1961. Quentin Paillard, his brother and his father all wanted to make terroir Champagne from their best, oldest plots--the very plots that they use to propagate the massal selections for the rest of their vineyard. This Chardonnay has understated power and is perhaps the most subtle, complex young Champagne that I have ever had. We only managed to get one cas...

This structured Pinot Noir Champagne comes from a less than 1/2 acre parcel in the grand cru of Bouzy planted in 1970 called Les Maillerettes. These old Pinot vines are the source for the massal selections used by the Paillard family for the rest of their plantations. This bottling, which will cellar for a very long time, also shows quite well right now. While I would not recommend this as a party bottle, graduates of Champagne will find one of the best expressions of real Pinot in this majestic wine. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

97 points Wine Advocate: "One of the very finest wines produced in this less heralded vintage is Egly's 2014 Brut Grand Cru Millésime, a strikingly vinous and enveloping Champagne that wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, mirabelle plum, freshly baked bread, almond paste and honeycomb. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, its textural attack segues into a deep, concentrated mid-palate of exceptional purity and cut, concluding with a long, penetrating and mouthwateringly saline finish. As ever, it's a blend of some 70% Pinot Noir with 30% Chardonnay from...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From Chardonnay planted in 1961, the 2018 Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Mottelettes pours a bright silver/yellow hue and takes on ripe aromas of candied Meyer lemon and salted pineapple. Full-bodied, it displays a more powerful personality on the palate, with a pillowy mousse, a rich texture, and notes of yellow apple on the finish. I like this, but I’m excited to see where the Mesnil goes when it’s ready to be bottled. Drink 2023-2033. (AF) " (11/2023) K&L Notes: Blanc de blancs from Bouzy? Bell Hill, established on an historic lime quarry site, reflects a deep connection to the land's history, from Maori rock art to moa fossil discoveries. The vineyard’s first wine release in 2003 marked the start of a long-term pursuit of excellence, now expanded with organically certified vineyards and regenerative farming practices. Each vintage is a testament to Marcel Giesen and Sherwyn Veldhuizen's commitment to the land and continuous advancements in winemaking.

(11/2014) 95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Flaccianello della Pieve is now hitting that very specific point in a wine's evolution in which you still identity some of the fruit, but you also get a supporting chorus of evolved aromas that enhance the overall finesse and depth of the bouquet. Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable, " according to the Burgundy Report.

Black cherry, graphite, sage, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and incense infuse the 2020 with tremendous complexity. Powerful but not overdone, the 2020 should evolve well for many years to come. We drank this over lunch and it was breathtaking, but were told that 24 hours later it had blossomed even further, so make sure you give this a serious amount of time in carafe to open up - something that gives you just a small clue as to how structured, layered and complex the wine we are dealing with here i...

98 points Vinous: "The 1977 Taylor's Vintage Port is initially tight and conservative on the nose: strawberry, baked cherry, tobacco and wild hedgerow notes emerging but remaining tight-lipped. This needs a good decant! The palate is endowed with depth and concentration, very well balanced with an attractive crispness. Perhaps you could argue that it is a 'linear' and more 'correct' Taylor's compared to the 1970 and lacks some charm. But there is immense complexity here so it is more a case of a Port demanding a very long maturation in bottle. (NM)" (06/...
