The Secret Speyside (M) series is one of Signatory's most prized. This lot of extremely high-quality, first-fill oloroso sherry butts was distilled at the exceptional distillery across from the town of Craigellachie on the Easter Elchies estate. While the bottler is prohibited from naming the source explicitly on their labels, they've been cheeky enough to add (M) and we're certain here that this is not a bottle of MacDuff, Mortlach, Mannochmore or Miltonfuff. But, it seems that the Signatory was compelled to point out the incredible pedigree of these ba...

Signatory has long been one of the preferred independent bottlers on the market. For almost three decades now, we've been selling Signatory because their cask selection process is second to none in the industry. They also have a knack for building incredible collections of rare casks, so walking through their warehouse is an absolute dream. As you pass Bowmore from the 70s and Port Ellen, you'll stumble by Dallas Dhu and Rosebank. Yet it's some of the modern stocks that are most shocking! Highland Park on its own is pretty rare outside of distillery bott...

93 points Whisky Advocate: "The first thing you notice is the elegant fragrance of lychee, spring blossoms, lily, rosewater, and raspberry meringue. Deeper in, grassy notes with star fruit, kumquat, and kaffir lime leaves. The flavors offer perfection in their simplicity: silky honey, soft spices, crystalized pineapple, barley sugar, lemon, and orange. On the finish, the spices chatter on and on as the sweet citrus and honey fade in and out. One to cherish. (JM, Spring 2018)" K&L Notes: The Suntory whiskies are handcrafted at Japan's oldest distillery, ...

The wonderful Glengoyne distillery is always one to keep an eye. Built in 1833, it was sold by Archiball Macllelan to the Lang Brothers where it remained until 1965 when it was purchased by a predecessor organization to Edrington Group. In 2003, it was sold to blenders and bottlers Ian Macleod and they've rightfully made Glengoyne a worldwide brand. They're famous for their sherried malt and it's rare to see a butt make it out of their warehouses under anyone else's label. That's why we were so excited to see this pop up and when we tasted it we knew we ...

Paul Giraud's Tres Rare bottling is 50 year old Grande Champagne Cognacs. It's a stunning example of power and finesse from the greatest region in Cognac. Add to that the lack of artificial colour and sweetener and you've got one of the best bottles in the store for a fraction of the price of the big Cognac houses.

Whisky Advocate: "Fragrant and herbal aromas, with pine needles, basil, green bell pepper, pea pod, black truffle, peppercorn, and smoke from smoldering dry mosses and wood shavings. It’s very smooth and refreshing, with pear, peppermint, lemon, lime, green tea, kiwi, and herbal notes, finishing with chopped mint, more herbal layers, and gentle peppery spice. A unique composition and a quintessential Japanese whisky experience. (JM, Summer-2023)" K&L Notes: Suntory's Hakushu, known as the "forest distillery," was built in 1973 as a sister distillery to ...

This new school American bottler is already making some big waves. Founded by the always impressive Pablo Moix, noted purveyor of exceptionally rare and delicious whiskies. Pablo has a way of finding exceptional casks and has been selecting barrels for over two decades at his bars and restaurants. That experience has opened doors that few have had the ability to walk through. The result is access to stocks of unprecedented quality and unique character. His line of single barrels, each adorned with an original work of art, is poised to be the next great w...

A good nicely aged Mortlach is something we wish we could offer more readily. Make it stupidly drinkable and at an unbelievably generous price, and we’ll drop nearly everything else. This attractive little refill hogshead is a dreamy, offering malt driven style from the Beast of Dufftown. You can visit a bona fide Fairy Village in Dufftown these days or the famous Giant's Chair, but the wonderful distillery in the gully by the stream to the south of town is arguably the town's most magical spot. The Mortlach makes an extremely unique malt. The distillati...

The Blue Run bourbon brand is one of the industry's most meteoric rises of any new brand. How did they do it? They got great people to bottle great bourbon in small batches and put it in a beautiful bottle. We were early Blue Run adopters at K&L, not because we loved the bottles and we do, but because they were clever enough to hire one of our favorite people in the bourbon industry — Jim Rutledge. He's been a guiding force for the industry for years and under his tutelage Blue Run has thrived, so when they offered us a chance to have our own single barr...

The very first Hearach Single Cask ever to be released in the US and one of the first-ever bottled worldwide. If you haven't been paying attention, the little distillery on the Isle of Harris is producing some of the finest whisky in Scotland. Produced in extremely small batches in and with a focus on quality and character overall. This single cask was filled into an extremely high-quality single bourbon barrel. Lightly peated, its ocean aging environment gives this whisky an incredibly depth, but its main focus is balance. The wispy smoke and rich toast...

2005 Undisclosed Jamaica 17 Year Old "Golden Devil" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Jamaican Rum (700ml)
This phenomenal barrel of rum will forever be a mystery. Wild speculation exists about its source and the bottler has absolutely zero information from the source about its marque. Those circumstances are highly unusual considering the quality and character of the rum in question. But, if you notice similar batches out there, there are only a handful of distillers that could supply this rum. Worthy Park, we've had others from the vintage and they have always included the blenders marque. The distillery was only selling in bulk at the time and their stocks...

Port Dundas closed in 2010, but small stocks still remain. The first single grain Scotch in the Orphan Barrel line, which seeks to highlight stocks of closed distilleries that remain in Diageo system. The distillery was established in 1810 and became a key component in the Johnnie Walker Blends for centuries. Per the producer: "The aroma starts with a burst of caramel and notes of baked sugar backed by the taste of crisp fruit and light toasted oak. The fruit forward flavor is blended with hints of butterscotch vanilla which carry through to the finish."

The Old Malt Cask line of single cask single malts was created by the Laing brothers in 1998. They've since bottled countless legendary single malt and continue to surprise and delight connoisseurs with their diverse range of exceptionally selected single casks. Unlike K&L's Exclusive single casks, Old Malt Cask is traditionally bottled at 100 proof, but always without chillfiltration or coloring of any kind. The Laings selected a diverse range of malts to celebrate 25 years in the single cask business, picking out choice casks and bottling them in the g...

Foursquare Rum Distillery, St. Philip, Barbados really should need no introduction. Originally set up by Reginald Leon Seale, the great-great grandfather of the current Master Blender and Distiller Richard Seale, the distillery has become the byword for classic Caribbean rum. Richard Seale is an absolute iconoclast who has turned the rum world on its head. In an industry dominated by huge drinks corporations that has long sold a story above the quality of its product, Seale has fought for transparency in production and labeling of rum. Derided by some as...

First introduced more than a quarter of a century ago in 1997, Ardbeg 17 Years Old was one of the initial bottlings to emerge from the distillery after a period of closure. This malt possessed a unique combination of delicacy and unmistakable Ardbeg character. It quickly captured the hearts of the committee and set an extraordinary standard for the future of Ardbeg whisky production. When Ardbeg retired the 17 in 2004, no one expected that plans would quietly unfold for its triumphant return. Esteemed Master Distiller, Dr. Bill Lumsden, meticulously re...

Fritz Maytag, the visionary who ushered in the craft beer movement, is also responsible for a resurrection of pot distilled whiskey in America. Not satisfied with merely rescuing Anchor Brewing in 1965 and resuscitating its iconic steam beer, he expanded to spirits in 1993. Fritz established Anchor Distilling Company in the back of the beer brewery and propelled the return of pot-distilled whiskey to the United States. Inspired by the rye whiskeys being made at America’s founding and Scotland's finest single malts the San Francisco distillery on Potrero ...

When Etienne Dupont took over the family farm in 1980, he continued a father-to-son tradition dating back to 1834. He continues to produce milk and Pont L'Eveque cheese from the 100 cattle belonging to the farm, and also sells some delicious cider. But these activities are there to finance his real passion, the production of small quantities of the best Calvados imaginable. Unlike most Calvados producers, Etienne has spent a lot of time in Cognac, and uses a consultant oenologist. He has studied and perfected every stage of the process, from growing the ...

Jim McEwan: "This Octomore was peated to 108.2ppm, distilled from Scottish barley, and matured in a combination of American oak, red wine, and ex-cognac casks. Jim McEwan: "COLOUR: Bright Golden Yellow. AROMAS: Classic Speysider with a twist due to the cask capacity. It’s the spirit that claims the high ground and it needs a drop of water to really appreciate its quality. The crispy sweetness of the barley works well with the fresh fruity bouquet created by long fermentation and slow distillation and the small cask is providing a beautiful oak halo which is lovely. TASTE: The satiny texture is biscuit sweet with a fruity foundation. The little cask is providing an opening for the malt and the quality of the dis...

Just ahead of the sweet barley sugar from this non peated Islander is an olfactory delight and a rare release! Its time maturing in a stones throw from the Sound of Islay gives a freshness that highlights a maritime influence and highlights the fruity overture. Also a piquant oak halo really works well with the marine influence. It’s an aromatic delight! Whisky Advocate: "Earthy notes of dried leaves, wet wool, and a hint of maltiness start things off on the nose, then citrus and red apple. The palate is sweet and balanced, offering warm apple tart, cinnamon, cooked blueberries, raisins, toffee, and Christmas cake, with a slight and appealing hint of soapiness.
