93 points Wine Advocate: "Composed of 39% Cabernet Franc, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cinsault, 10% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 6% Malbec, the 2020 Professor Black Pitch Black is layered with juicy red fruits without being overdone on the nose, offering layers of dusty florals and spiced plum. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers a fantastic balance with vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins, showing plenty of life left in the wine before gliding to a long, complex finish. The wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, just under 20% new. ...

96 points Decanter: "This Pinot Noir originates from a 6.5-hectare site in the Dundee Hills AVA, where vines are rooted in the region's famous Jory soils. Aged for 15 months in 30% new French oak, this wine exudes freshness and clarity reminiscent of the Alpine lake depicted on its label. Juicy pomegranate seeds, cherry-raspberry leather, and sandalwood dominate the medium-bodied palate, framed by superfine tannins and a clean acid cut. Subtle hints of pine forest and cacao bean emerge on the long, elegant finish. The grapes were destemmed, underwent a 7...

97 points Decanter: "Pure and precise with a fine bead and great balance. Classic Chenin pear and apple aromatics with a streak of lemon. Vibrantly textured with a lemony freshness and a hint of toast on the finish. (DWWA 2022)" (06/2022) K&L Notes: Maison Laudacius is an association of farmers working in the small region of Montlouis-sur-Loire. Founded in 1961 it is made up of 18 of these growers, all farming sustainably across the three villages that make up the Montlouis appellation. The soils are primarily clay-silica over the famed Turonian chal...
95 points James Halliday: "80/20% Awatere/Wairau Valley fruit; 10% goes into oak for ferment. Blackberry leaf, Thai basil and yellow guava. Blueberry flesh, fennel and chalk. The palate is weighted with ripe passionfruit, nectarine and honeysuckle. This is ripe and rich. It's densely packed and acidity trots in line, enabling a long, slippery finish. A hint of celery salt and raw cashew on the finish with a smattering of lacey skin texture. Lots of value here, for the price tag, and a memorable wine." Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930. Since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The domaine has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky minerality and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Violet-red to the eye, this wine has a bouquet of cassis, saddle leather and clove. It feels good in the mouth, offering flavors of blackberry, strawberry, chocolate-covered coffee bean and vanilla. Satin tannins dissolve into a soft rose-petal finish. (MD)" (07/2022) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Sweet oak, vanilla, cherry and bitter almond flavors converge in this muscular, balanced red. The oak still needs time to integrate, with ample fruit to offset it. The finish is long and compact. Tempranillo and Graciano. Best from 20...

94 points Decanter: "The fruit for this Oregon Chardonnay is sourced from a 6.5-hectare site located approximately 1.5 km from Lange and Alexana, where vines are rooted in the renowned Jory soils of the Dundee Hills AVA. This wine exudes the unmistakable character of a Pacific Northwest Chardonnay, marked by its clean, bright, and vivid elegance, paired with pure fruit expression that captures energy and tension. Mas Codina is a 40-hectare estate in Alt Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Gran Reserva Cava was hand-harvested from 25- to 40-year-old vines and estate-bottled. 97 points Decanter: "We’ve only ever featured a Beaujolais cru in our Best In Show selection once (a 2020 Fleurie), so this year’s double appearance (in a year when no red from further north in Burgundy came through the judging rounds) marks a step forward for this ever-more-significant wine region. When Morgon is on song, there is no Beaujolais cru that can match it for exuberance and seductiveness of perfume – and this dark purple-black wine is a splendid example of that astonishing charm. Cherries and plums cascade from the glass. On the palate, it’s ...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Ripe red and black fruits, peppery herbs, incense, and some floral notes all emerge from the 2022 Ventoux Domaine, a medium-bodied, supple, perfumed 2022 that has fine tannins and a terrific sense of elegance. It's already drinking nicely but should evolve gracefully for 7-8 years at a minimum." A wine with tiny, long-lasting bubbles, Deligeroy's Crémant de Loire Rosé is a lovely gleaming pink color with a delicate, nervy nose and aromas of fresh red fruit. It's lively on the attack and has enticing aromatic intensity and brightness. Well balanced in the mouth, this sparkler is enhanced by a fresh but subtle finish. Crafted using the méthode traditionnelle, the wine is stored for at least 12 months on racks in freestone cellars before disgorging to make incomparably fine bead. Lasseter Estate Winery in Glen Ellen was founded in 2000 by John and Nancy Lasseter. Inspired by their travels in France, the winery produces Bordeaux and Rhône-style wines. The estate spans 27 acres in Sonoma Valley and Moon Mountain District, all organically farmed.
We can tell you this much: our Kalinda private label hooks you up with awesome wine at a fraction of what you'd otherwise pay for this exact same wine under its normal label. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that it sells elsewhere under the winery label at a much higher premium. Get it while it lasts.

96 points James Halliday: "All P58 clone from '80 and '82 plantings. Whole-bunch pressed to 500L puncheons (about 20% new). No lees stirring. A touch brighter and deeper in colour than the Hazeldene. Sexy stuff from the first whiff with its aromas of stone fruits, acacia honey and grilled nuts. Glides effortlessly across the silken-textured palate. You know it will age well, but this is an Oakridge chardonnay that you won't need to wait too long to enjoy. *Gold*" (02/2024) 96 points James Suckling: "From the oldest vineyard at this address, planted in ...

It too has a savory, nicely structured style on the palate, with notable tannins, and is going to evolve for 5-7 years. It's a solid step up over the 2018." Wine Advocate: "The pale pink NV Brut Rosé Crémant d'Alsace Charles Baur is based on Pinot Noir from Eguisheim from 2019 and spent 18 months on lees. Fine red apple fruit also characterizes the palate which is bright and light and slender but has pristine flavors and a lovely length. Domaine Jacourette lies in the shadow of the Montagne-Ste-Victoire just east of Aix-en-Provence. Vigneron Helene Dragon took over winemaking duties more than two decades ago, and masterfully crafts one of our freshest and most sought after rosés year-after-year. The vines are planted at 300 meters of elevation atop decomposing limestone and clay - the most desirable soils in the region. Mas Codina is a 40-hectare estate in Penedès, which dates back to 1681. This Brut Rosé consists of Pinot Noir grown in their own vineyards in the middle Penedès region. Here the Garriga brothers are quite pleased with the results they see from the Pinot Noir grown in chalky-clay soils. They have been working organically for the past several years, and their first harvest doing so with certification was 2017. We direct import this delicious Cava, and it is arguably one of our best values in rosé bubbly right now. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)

Wine Spectator: "Lemon oil, pear and white currant flavors are underscored by salty elements in this briny, light-bodied white. Floral and herb notes detail the finish. (GS)" (11/2021) K&L Notes: The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things: oysters and this wine of origin, Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul, we ask each other, "does this pic your poul?"

It has a darker, almost black-fruited style, with lots of peppery herbs, violets, bay leaf, and gamey notes, and it shows more red fruit and floral nuances with time in the glass. It's another elegant, pretty, beautifully balanced wine from this team that readers will love." Coming from a small one acre vineyard in Woodside, CA, Whiskey Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a true boutique production with just 2-3 barrels made each vintage. The moderate climate and Franciscan Shale soils here are perfect for Cabernmet Sauvignon. A special winery-direct deal brings this unique little wine to you at a fantastic price....

The Santa Lucia Highlands, located on the east-facing terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, has a rich history dating back to the 1790s when Spanish settlers first planted vinifera grapes. Though initially focused on vegetable farming, the region's true potential for winegrowing was realized in the 1970s by pioneers like Nicky Hahn and Rich Smith, with the area becoming famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay by the 1990s. Officially designated an AVA in 1992, the region now spans 5,700 acres, producing some of California's most sought-after wines...

It’s not quite as dark in colour, and is far less fruit-dominated on the nose. The fruits it shows, too, suggest plum and damson rather than cherry, and there are other more brooding aromatic notes on the nose as well, intimating the wines granite-sand origins; you might, finally, find a meatiness there. On the palate, this is as intense as the Morgon but, once again, more complex and layered, with fruit, stone and othe...
