2014 Franck Bonville "Millesime" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 11-24-2021
This is one on the many reasons to join K & L's Champagne wine club because there is a chance you'd get this in it. This vintage of the Bonville blanc de blanc is strikingly delectable. On the palate brioche, flint, under ripe citrus, cedar box exotic spice aromas that is noticeable from the start. The bubbles are lightweight, delicate and wispy. The acidity is perfectly present. This is just an enjoyable Champagne that can go with a hearty dish, fatty fish and starches. Drink now or hold. Either way you have a gem in your collection.

2008 Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Champagne
Review Date: 11-20-2021
The forefront aromas of under-ripe pineapple, fresh coconut water, proofing dough, and golden delicious apples present first but then there is a Manzanilla sherry aroma quality to this. Its bright acidity is a notch higher on the mouthfeel and represents mostly in the citrus variety, that kind of caught me by surprise in a good way. Overall this '08 Feuillatte is a great purchase for $50.00 and one that can be kept for years as this can only become more complex over time.

Leclerc Briant Reserve Brut Champagne
Review Date: 11-20-2021
The Leclerc is a "sleeper" it is my first time trying this Champagne and I see a place for this in my collection. The flavor profile genuinely makes it a stand out among the rest. On the nose it reminds me of pear spice cake, candied ginger then on the backend there is a hint of guava. I noticed that it also drinks like a wine in the way of its small bubbles, it just floats on the tongue. A touch of salinity lingers but the finish is firm in its med plus acidity. I would say this is a cheese Champagne, its super complex in my opinion, the range could be from a Brillat-Savarin to a Mimolette, just keep herbs and rubs out of the picture.

Laurent-Perrier Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature Champagne
Review Date: 11-20-2021
This Laurent Perrier bottling is of my favorites in the Blanc de Blanc realm. A crisp and clean Champagne that leads towards lemon, fresh ginger, honeycomb, white peach and fragrant white flowers on the nose and palate. The finish is full, present and lengthy. This is a perfect Champagne for a lover of bright lifted flavors with med plus acidity. Enjoy this with escolar nigiri.

2007 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Louis" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 11-20-2021
Wow, this is a very delicious Champagne! On the nose from the forefront, Seville orange, praline, honeycomb, vanilla wafers, and citron marmalade. Apple and Asian pear follow, but there is an overwhelming yet lovely white floral, Seville orange and slightly oxidative aroma that really separates this Champagne from the others. Medium acidity and an exceptionally nice finish. This one is a keeper for a couple years if one chooses but when enjoyed decant and savor with someone really special or as a treat for oneself.

2019 Olema (Amici) Sonoma County Pinot Noir
Review Date: 11-14-2021
This vintage from winemakers Tony and Jesse really show the lushness and easy drinking character expected from a Sonoma pinot. I may almost say this might be the best value pinot in the shop. Aromas of ripe Bing cherries, black berries, wild strawberries, plush pomegranate, intermixed with florals of cherry blossoms, rosemary, rich baking spices and delicate tea leaf all present uniformly. The abundant length of the finish makes the Olema a great candidate for various meal periods but take this Pinot serious, enjoy with Peking duck and scallion pancakes.

2020 Domaine Gérard Tremblay Petit Chablis
Review Date: 11-14-2021
There is nothing "Petit" about this Petit Chablis. The Tremblay has this enormous bouquet of wet stone, chalk, salt minerals, seawater, marine air, star fruit and passion fruit. Accompanying is a clean crispness of preserved lemon and a punchy umami quality in its finish. The qualities in this wine absolutely shows its "place of identity" unquestionably. This is a high quality bottling with length for days. I am impressed how this wine evolved over the course of 5 hours after opened, it just continued to blossom. With the amount character this Chablis shows right now you could lay it down for good 5-6 years and embellish in the progression especially when you look back at the $$ paid, you would be happy you did.

Pierre Paillard "Les Parcelles" Grand Cru Extra Brut Bouzy Champagne
Review Date: 11-12-2021
I have enjoyed this Bouzy champagne since I tried it for the first time 15 years ago, it will always hold a special place in my heart. The color takes on straw but you can see a hue of pink if you look real close. The aromas of red Bartlett pear, caramelized ginger, pink grapefruit, clementine, plum tart and toasted sesame seed show in a harmonious way. The mouthfeel is elegant and brimming with substantial minerality and med plus acidity. For the price this over achieves in its category and over-exceeds in flavor. Enjoy with lump crab cakes with a saffron aioli.

2019 de France Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 11-06-2021
The De France Bordeaux Blanc is a wonderfully balanced wine, fit with all the components for overall enjoyment. Orchard fruit, white peach, green plum, green melon coupled with ample amounts of minerality and a touch of rosemary oil on the finish. These features linger with an abundance of lushness and a lingering mouthfeel that makes for a compelling experience on the palate. The all-embracing experience of the combined freshness and liveliness comes across perfectly. Enjoy with whole roasted Branzino with caper butter.

Thierry Thibault Brut Champagne
Review Date: 11-03-2021
Wow!! If you are a fan of Chardonnay, Meunier, Pinot Noir champagnes, look no further because this is one! Thierry's expression of classic flavors that truly imbibes a well rounded and affordable bottle that is driven by peach mousse, a touch of nectarine, yellow plum and a tad of passion fruit that match the palate along with the nose. This is an attractive bottle of bubbles and a stunning overall crowd pleaser. Enjoy with some white fish sashimi or caviar.

2018 Felsina "Berardenga" Chianti Classico
Review Date: 10-29-2021
Felsina Chianti's are such great values, hard to pass them up when you are looking for a reliable week night wine. The Berardenga has this wonderful floral element that is super appealing, then marvelous supple red fruit, more of the wild berry and alpine herbs, superb tartness and balanced acidity. Enjoy this with most of your week night dinner choices, this will be a great companion.

2017 Fèlsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 10-29-2021
The Felsina Chianti's are such great values and hard to pass them up especially when you have such complexity at an obtainable price. This Rancia is a great candidate for someone that is starting to set aside wines on a minimum budget. Dried rose petals, dried blueberry-cranberry, rosemary oil. This is a stunner of a wine and will keep for years to come. But if you feel the need to indulge now give a try with lamb tagine and dried cherries over saffron rice pilaf, I think you would be delighted with this paring.

2019 Domaine Mouton Givry
Review Date: 10-28-2021
This Givry has wonderful earthiness at the brow on the aroma. There is a lusciousness of pure cherry-cranberry juice sorbet and a slightness of rosemary oil. Something that is very appealing about this wine is the time in took to open up, its a true sleeper. Over time it became red fruited, silky tannin, and firm in its mouthfeel. I wholly recommend decanting before enjoying and having this with a pork shoulder roast packed with French herbs and some crusty bread with good olive oil.

This Blason pinot grigio is so fresh on the nose. So bright and wafting with ginger, green apple, mint and lemongrass. The aroma is so delightful. The texture leans towards a lengthiness that is unexpected but gratifying. This is tasty juice filled with flavorful alpine herbs and precise orchard fruit. A winner for shrimp ceviche and yuca French fries.

All it really took was one look at the appellation this is sited from, I had an automatic affection to Denman. This Sonoma Coast Chardonnay has golden delicious apple, fresh apricots, Mirabella plum, sugarcane, starfruit, under ripe guava, fresh bay leaf and galangal. The approachability of this wine is crowd pleasing for the foodies. Enjoy this with baked yams topped with sage butter. YUM!!

2020 Les Vignerons de Fontès "Prieuré Saint-Hippolyte" Languedoc Rosé
Review Date: 10-23-2021
Straightaway the floral notes of the Hippolyte rose remined me of pink begonia's and champagne pink currants along with hints of grapefruit and ripe watermelon. What completes this is the finish of fresh yet subtle notes of candied strawberries. There is great impression on the palate, full flavors and lingering length. Surprisingly great aromatics persistence and balance. Such a great value for a dry Languedoc rose.

San Venanzio Fortunato Brut Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore
Review Date: 10-23-2021
When enjoying this Prosecco recognize that is made with such familiarity and experience for this family as ties in the Valdobbiadene that go as far back to the sixth century AD. Their expectations when harvesting quality Glera combined with consistency in flavor from bottling to consumer is why K&L's relationship has lasted so long, they're just about part of our family. The suppleness of granny smith apples, ginger-pear sorbet, dried apricots in this version finishing with almond paste and the subtle brininess is lengthy and truly delightful on the finish. Feel free to apply your fruit puree of choice, this can be a great partner to passion fruit or prickly pear for bellini cocktails.

2015 ...And... Wine Co. Yamhill-Carlton District Pinot Noir
Review Date: 10-22-2021
This vintage has a juicy, succulent appeal. Candied cranberry, strawberry compote and sour cherry bitters. A mouthfeel that is surrounding and lingering, a tad bit of an herbal mint and rosemary makes a entrance. It is on the lighter side but its lengthy finish is reaching and extended. The is a weeknight wine to be enjoyed with out guilt.

2020 Kalinda Sonoma County Chardonnay
Review Date: 10-22-2021
This 2020 Kalinda Chardonnay has a beautifully expansive nose. Tons of tropical fruits, passion fruit, guava, McIntosh apple and a top of caramel crème brulée. I really like this, the acidity is solid and in attendance. I'd have this with a parsnip soup garnished with caramelized apples, that should really knock it out the park and make this a quite enjoyable paring.

2018 Domaine Christophe Buisson Bourgogne Rouge
Review Date: 10-22-2021
This is a thanksgiving wine if I must say so. The aromas in this are graceful and lush. Dried cranberry, black cherry concentrate, rosemary-thyme oil, iron minerality and a forest floor back end. The mouthfeel is deep and broad in the reach. This "entry level" Bourgogne is flexible to have with herbed roasted turkey, confit mushrooms and savory stuffing with chestnuts.

2020 TWR (Te Whare Ra) Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 10-17-2021
The Twr Te Sauvignon Blanc is their flagship wine that showcases the unique textbook style of the Marlborough. This has a moderate nose of green apples, key lime, heightened crisp aromatics with notes of grapefruit, orangelo fruit, fresh but not intense cut grass. When I think of the best food companion for this wine pairing, Peruvian ceviche or Peruvian layered potato salad come to mind, those flavors would match and accentuate the herbaceous qualities of this wine combined with the ingredients in those dishes.

2014 Bodegas Muga "Prado Enea" Gran Reserva Rioja
Review Date: 10-17-2021
The Muga Prado holds a special place in my heart, its not an "every occasion wine" but when I find my self revisiting it, its always a delightful reminder how delcious this wine is. The upfront red fruit notes of candied cranberry, red plum, sweet pomegranate and beet root juice show in the most splendid way. The addition of cinnamon spice plus the lingering onward minerality really sets this wine in a happy place for me. This Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano blend delivers a fine restraint of lively fruit at its semi-peak ripeness is just what you would want from a Rioja Reserva. Hold for later enjoyment or drink now, either way you'll have a winner!

2018 Château du Hureau "Tuffe" Saumur-Champigny
Review Date: 10-17-2021
This is the wine that really made me fall in love with Saumur and every time I see it back in stock it brings a smile. Beautifully crafted wines from Philippe and Agathe Vatan, no doubt they are serious wine makers and when you compare the flavor profile this wine reach you would expect the price to be higher but they stay approachable and accessible for all. There is an appealing touch of fragrant yet soft medicinal herbs that hit first then the fruit comes into play, wild blueberries, red cherries, black plums and dried herbs all notes that approach in the glass in a great way. This is a great introduction of the "entry level" wine and a peak into the tuffeau terroir that surrounds this cite but there is also so much flexibility in this wine that it can go with a variety of dishes. A definite elegant wine that is ready to enjoy now but has the potential to become gloriously complex with age.

2016 Pierre & Bertrand Couly "La Haute Olive" Chinon

This chinon is a STUNNER!! I wish this came in perfume form because the aromatics are so extraordinary. Damson plums, black current, elderberries and indigo rose tomatoes all present them selves in the forefront on the nose along with fresh Italian herbs that come in not far behind. I love the savoriness almost umami flavors of this Cabernet Franc and the earthy iron rich finish. Try with a duck themed charcuterie board, sure to make an impressive paring.

2018 Loïc Mahé "Sables & Schistes" Savennières

The nose on this Savennieres is a bit tricky in the sense that it comes across more aged than the actual vintage. I am a true believer that the white wines of Anjou need more love and this is the one that will turn those that have disliked them in the past into a lover. The pleasant aromatics of fleshy peach, golden pear, chamomile tea, honey and ripe honeydew melon is just beautiful. 2018 Bedouet Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Le Pallet
Review Date: 10-15-2021
The Bedouet has a firmness that forwardness that I really appreciate. There is a slight flintiness smoke in the forefront then imbedded yellow apple, clementine orange and stone fruit come into play. The light touch of meringue powder comes in on the finish making this wine a candidate for some fun cheeses. This is quite enjoyable now but I could imagine this becoming a seriously complex wine with some age.

2016 Remelluri "Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Labastida" Rioja
Review Date: 06-25-2021
I have always had a fondness for the Remelluri wines. They have a way of displaying the truest expressions of mountain fruit along with the specificity of the unique terroir. In this vintage, there is purity along with structure that certainly leans towards the aging potential for this wine. The initial invitation on the nose brings up wild alpine herbs you would smell on a hiking trail, followed by sun-kissed black and red wild berries and ethnic spices. The texture is more than mouth-filling, fancying more on the side of silky with a medium-bodied backbone. It was very enjoyable with a chicken and almond tajin and summer vegetables.

2019 Luigi Pira Dolcetto d'Alba
Review Date: 01-30-2021
The Pira Dolcetto at first sight shows a deep purple shade that stir up delightful excitement and anticipation. Before tasting, a burst of purple fruit and purple florals flow from the glass with specifics like licorice, violets, candied watermelon, dried figs, and concentrated currents. At first taste there was a firm pull of grape tannin (hence the 8-9-month soak in stainless tanks) that did leisurely soften over the 3 days of being opened. The texture shows off a gripping mouthfeel and a lingering quaffable finish. Yet a yummy eggplant parmesan or a rich and hearty goulash would be the bow with this juicy fruited wine that has plenty of life to drink now or hold for a year or two!

This is what the textbooks write about in terms of classic Austrian Rieslings. This one is filled with a rainbow of citrus fruits, and slight hints of attractive pithy-ness followed with beautiful floral and fresh green herbs, dill, chervil finishing with a saline draw. The texture is inviting and the mouthfeel is zippy. This is palate stimulating vino for those that seek dry yet flavorsome table wines that are affordable.

Billecart-Salmon "Le Rendez-Vous" Pinot Meunier Extra Brut #1 Champagne
Review Date: 11-28-2020
Billecart's first rendition of 100% Pinot Meunier from 3 grand cru sites, Leuvrigny, Festigny and Venteuil in the Marne Valley is a show stopper. The florals alone is enough to draw in ones curiosity and intrigue. There is a familiar fragrance of proofing yeast, shaved ginger and Indian spices. The delicate flavors of citron, pomelo, D'Anjou pear, mineral salt and sweet/fruity olive oil leaves a fascinating finish in the mouthfeel. Fine bubbles dance on the palate and a low dosage of 4.5 g/l is my kind of Champagne. This can age for 5 years but I endorse to enjoy this now, there is not much out there.

2018 Francesco Rinaldi Langhe Nebbiolo
Review Date: 10-18-2020
Approachable and expressive Langhe Nebbiolo. An intro of significant amounts of mission fig, Tulare cherry, aged balsamic, rosemary oil and touch of dust and clay aromas. It started out slightly compressed in the beginning but over a three day period the flavors became softened and lengthier. Oxygen is this wines best friend as slight nuances of coco and kirsch hung around over the course of the days opened. Quite enjoyable and absolutely pairable with a well marbled roasted prime rib roast, rich demi glace and caramelized root vegetables. Gustare!

2018 Clemens Busch "Pündericher Marienburg" Riesling Kabinett Mosel
Review Date: 09-02-2020
When seeking "naturally" made Mosel Riesling seek the wines from Clemens and Rita Busch. Organic since 1984 then more than recently transitioning over to Biodynamic practices they are fifth generation winemakers of the Punderich Estate. I can see why they have such a loyal following for their wines, known to have explosive liveliness, salty expressions, dried tree fruit and unusually pleasant savory herbal notes. These bottling are absolutely suitable for aging but I have enjoyed many with out waiting and have been very pleased. They open up and become and stay lively and delightful to the last drop.

Moussé Fils "L'Or d’Eugène Perpétuelle" Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne
Review Date: 09-02-2020
Cedric Mousse Champagnes are one of my top favorites, mostly because of their use of Meunier, stainless steel and malolactic. This is a great value with a ton of work put behind the making of these Champagnes. This bottling is 80% Meunier, 20% Pinot with a blending of 50% 2015 vintage juice and 50% 2003-2014 juice somewhat of a solera style but fresher. There's tons of layers and texture, a light lemon curd along with a fresh fruit bowl complexity. Some ginger spiciness shows in the mid but this is a quaffable Champagne, so easy to drink on its own. If you had to have a snack, I'd recommend a simple pate with toasted almonds and dried apricots keep it short and simple with this one.
