2018 Domaine Jean-Michel Dupré Morgon "Vignes de 1935"
Review Date: 10-21-2020
Jean-Michel Dupre's 2018 VV Morgon is unambiguous yet lavish at the same time. One of the cleanest as well as sultry expressions of volcanic soiled, old vined wine I've tasted from this vintage. Exuberant amounts of red cherry, strawberry and sage are the likely aromas and fruit flavors expected, but what captured more of my attention are underlying tones of candied even marmalade kumquat, bay laurel bouquet aromas along with the addition of lengthy raspberry tea leaf tannins. Those nuances are in reality what that sets this wine apart from the others we have in house. I'd enjoy this slightly chilled with a tuna nicoise sandwich and radishes with salted butter.

2017 Vietti "Perbacco" Nebbiolo Langhe
Review Date: 10-18-2020
This beauty is a palate pleaser right out the bottle. A bountiful fruit bouquet of red licorice, sour cherry, compressed candied fruit, cedar leaf and lavender/rosemary oil. Delicate yet complex and relatable flavors finishing silky and sumptuous in its texture. Over time the suppleness softened, so I recommend enjoying the day of opening with a porchetta panini or some spicy mozzarella stuffed arancini. The simpler the dish is the best for this wine.

2018 Francesco Rinaldi Langhe Nebbiolo
Review Date: 10-18-2020
Approachable and expressive Langhe Nebbiolo. An intro of significant amounts of mission fig, Tulare cherry, aged balsamic, rosemary oil and touch of dust and clay aromas. It started out slightly compressed in the beginning but over a three day period the flavors became softened and lengthier. Oxygen is this wines best friend as slight nuances of coco and kirsch hung around over the course of the days opened. Quite enjoyable and absolutely pairable with a well marbled roasted prime rib roast, rich demi glace and caramelized root vegetables. Gustare!

Pierre Sparr Crémant d'Alsace Brut Rosé
Review Date: 10-16-2020
Another fantastic Alsatian sparkler of 100% Pinot Noir. Bright raspberry, red plums and cherry blossoms spring forward from the glass. An abundance of candied cherry and ripe watermelon with a touch of lychee encompass the palate finishing dry and lingering. This is a perfect paring for charcutier of the spicy kind and cremont cheese with dried figs.

Pierre Sparr Crémant d'Alsace Brut
Review Date: 10-16-2020
This is an absolute superb Alsatian sparkling made up of 80% Pinot blanc and 20% Pinot Auxerrois. Lined with an abundance of spiced pear, baked apple and a sprinkling of cinnamon on the nose, then leaning into a more tropical taste on the palate of pineapple, agave and honey. Finishing dry, bright and yeasty. Great mouthfeel and a perfect aperitif if paired with light snacks or just mid day enjoyment.

Lini "Labrusca" Lambrusco Emilia Bianco
Review Date: 09-26-2020
My first time tasting a white Lambrusco and this one is quite the yummy little charmant-method sparkler. Honey dew melon, brown pear, rainier cherry, pink lady apples. Overfilled with great acidity together with a light mineral essence, perfect to drink on its own and no vital need of food. Cheers!

2019 Gaudio Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese
Review Date: 09-26-2020
This is a perfect summer light bodied red. Rose water, bright cherry, watermelon and strawberry. Juicy on the intro then flavorsome in its finish. A little chill on this easy to drink red would not diminish the bright flavors better yet, it would amplify all those wonderful red floral and red berry flavors. Partnered with a light spaghetti sauce made from early girl tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and basil can make this a very tasty foodie experience.

2015 Costanti Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 09-18-2020
I love the nose on the 2015 Constanti Brunello. Mounds of well fortified aromas leap out, raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, dried/fresh hibiscus amid there and some savory herbal tones that follow in on the back end. On its first sip all flavors envelop the palate and matches the nose to a tee, I love that! Along with the lingering silky yet refined tannin shows an abundance of flavor in this bottle. I recommend purchasing a 6 pack and open it over the next 5 years and be sure to share this with that special someone that knows a thing or two about well made Brunello, this one is a conversation bottle.

2017 Carbonnieux Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 09-17-2020
60% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillon. This particular vintage has a higher level of bright tones upfront. Semillon really shines through and adds more this time around with its classic green pear, granny smith apple, kaffir lime and honey notes but then there is a subtle guava, passion fruit on the back end. Acidity is a bit less flashy in this vintage and the mouthfeel is a bit more broad and more exotic. These expressions emerge slowly which makes the want to spend more time with the wine enjoying and capturing all those flavors.

2016 Carbonnieux Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 09-17-2020
70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon consisting of classic relatable aromas such as dried apricot, guava, passion fruit and honey with a bit of lemongrass and fennel on the tail end. Med acidity, tons of mineral finishing with a slight wet clay soil nuance. A good aperitif wine that can be enjoyed with most meals consisting of fish and veggies.

2019 Marisa Cuomo Costa di Amalfi Rosato
Review Date: 09-05-2020
Costa Di Almalfi rosato is a blend of 50% Piedrosso and 50% Aglianico. This rosato has robust aromas of cranberry, pomegranate, strawberry, saline and hibiscus flowers that leap out the glass. The expectations from the nose duplicated red fruit on the palate and spanned into a noticeable lengthy finish. The weight is lean but the mouthfeel is extensive, makes this a perfect paring with shrimp tacos or even Cajun shrimp scampi, this wine can handle some spice.

2015 La Fornace Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 09-04-2020
This 2015 Brunello is one that is a sure standout. La Fornace is a great example of a vintage that overall was considered challenging and difficult for vintners but those who weathered through nailed it. The fruit launches into an abundance of red plums, figs, spice and everything nice. Lovely cherry wood, cedar wood and subtle vanilla bean. In the mid there is leather and a fine earthiness but integrated. The mouthfeel has great grape skin tannin and a firm finish. This is a very drinkable now Brunello but also a very age-able Brunello. With food I would enjoy this with rustic lasagna of wild boar.

2019 Attems Pinot Grigio Ramato Rosé Friuli
Review Date: 09-03-2020
Attems "Ramato" rose is wine production style historically found in Fruili when there is extended maceration of the must on the skins during the wine making process, this gives these wines its pigment shades of rose/copper/sheer depending on the length of time. In this bottling the bright freshness shines through. Perfect not over ripe cantaloupe, watermelon, cranberry, grapefruit and hints of wild strawberry leaf. There is an addition of enjoyable and delightful mineral and a fine dry finish. An undoubtedly quality wine that is approachable and delectable.

2019 Le Battistelle "Montesei" Soave Classico
Review Date: 09-03-2020
Hand-harvested from multi-site vineyards rich in soils mixed with clay and silt, Gelmino and Cristina's "Montesei" is an easy drinking none complicated, just enjoy Soave. A touch of lanolin and citrus oil, green pear, lime, fresh green herbs of chervil reveal on the dot. Texture is mild with a tad bit of viscosity but overall this is a clean and lean wine perfect to enjoy with tuna ceviche with avocado and cilantro.

2018 Le Battistelle "Battistelle" Soave Classico
Review Date: 09-03-2020
Volcanic soiled, hand-harvested Soave from the high altitude/sloped vineyards in the heart of Brognoligo. Gelmino and Cristina's "Battistelle Eroica" has an heighten nose of fresh ginger, brown pear, yellow apple and bit of white pepper. A more serious bottle than the "Montesei" the lingering finish and texture makes it a good aperitif paring with mushroom quiche.

2018 Vietti ''Tre Vigne'' Barbera d'Asti
Review Date: 09-02-2020
I first tasted this wine in the beginning of this year in March and since then I've been going back for more. Not only because of its attractive price but Vietti's Barbera d'Asti is a true over deliverer that easily evolves over a 2 to 3 day period. The nose is so inviting of loganberries, mission figs, damson plums, and rosemary bush. There is so much delightful aromas to dig through on the nose, it will make you want to smell before every taste. Then out comes nice chewy grip, purple, red berries, fruit skin tannin, full mouthfeel texture so round and lush. This is a silky and forward wine, lengthy and satisfying. I've enjoyed this with a variety of foods from a pastrami sandwich for lunch to a more serious dish for dinner of agnolotti with brown butter and sage.

2018 Clemens Busch "Pündericher Marienburg" Riesling Kabinett Mosel
Review Date: 09-02-2020
When seeking "naturally" made Mosel Riesling seek the wines from Clemens and Rita Busch. Organic since 1984 then more than recently transitioning over to Biodynamic practices they are fifth generation winemakers of the Punderich Estate. I can see why they have such a loyal following for their wines, known to have explosive liveliness, salty expressions, dried tree fruit and unusually pleasant savory herbal notes. These bottling are absolutely suitable for aging but I have enjoyed many with out waiting and have been very pleased. They open up and become and stay lively and delightful to the last drop.

Moussé Fils "L'Or d'Eugene Perpétuelle" Blanc de Noirs Brut Champagne
Review Date: 09-02-2020
Cedric Mousse Champagnes are one of my top favorites, mostly because of their use of Meunier, stainless steel and malolactic. This is a great value with a ton of work put behind the making of these Champagnes. This bottling is 80% Meunier, 20% Pinot with a blending of 50% 2015 vintage juice and 50% 2003-2014 juice somewhat of a solera style but fresher. There's tons of layers and texture, a light lemon curd along with a fresh fruit bowl complexity. Some ginger spiciness shows in the mid but this is a quaffable Champagne, so easy to drink on its own. If you had to have a snack, I'd recommend a simple pate with toasted almonds and dried apricots keep it short and simple with this one.

2019 Graci Etna Rosato
Review Date: 09-02-2020
2019 Graci Rosato 100% Nerello Mascalese seemed a bit leaner than the previous vintage even so it still showed full flavors of under ripe red berries, satsuma plums with a back-end of dried savory high altitude herbs. Dry and a nice tart acidity yet tons energy from the mouthfeel that provided great texture and an extended length that is always occurring in every vintage. I recommend enjoying this with thinly sliced cacciatore, soppressata or a simple polenta with shaved pecorino pepato.

2018 Dr. Loosen Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett Mosel
Review Date: 08-29-2020
Doing a little research on this unique site made all the exotic flavors and aromas become fully realized. This Dr. Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten (spice garden) Kabinett has mesmerizing spice and earthiness, tropical fruit, green apple acidity, lemongrass, spice, and pumpkin on the nose, matching the palate. There is also a fresh ginger and honey-like nectar lingering in the mid. I absolutely enjoyed this Riesling with a Thai spicy pumpkin curry with shrimp—this was a perfect pairing for this wine.

2017 Burzi "Runcaja" Nebbiolo Langhe
Review Date: 08-29-2020
The Burzi-Runcaja vineyard is a relatively young vineyard, just about 15 years old. The approach is bright-fresh red fruit, high tones of stone fruit, plums, cranberry and mineral that young Barolo's are known to have. The grippy acidity is bold and should be allowed to breath, this is a wine you can drink over 2-3 days and easily gain more layers of personality. And because of that you can go a bit further with your food parings such as winter greens and mushroom pastas or even Jamaican brown stew chicken.

2017 Burzi "Plaustra" Barbera d'Alba
Review Date: 08-29-2020
This is my first introduction to this house and I found it to really stand out amongst other Barbera's I have tried. The opening aroma of forest earth and game blew off once oxygen hit then a burst of wild fruit that changed to partially dried figs, dark berries and toasted vanilla bean. There is but super soft texture to this wine. It should be open early and allowed to breath, the development over time shows the potential to age but also can be enjoyed early with root vegetable dishes and stewed lamb.

2016 Pomona Chianti Classico
Review Date: 08-29-2020
Classic flavors with a touch of heighten fruit. Cherry, cranberry, rhubarb adding in a red dusty soil, violets and salty/savory taste. Firm fruit tannins yet lustrous on the finish. A flexible food wine easily pairable with simple prepared tomatoes and dishes with the addition of olives and sardines.

2015 Rocca di Montegrossi "San Marcellino" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Review Date: 08-21-2020
This is the actuality of a supreme classic Chianti Classico in its best vintage, and a treat for all that are lucky to grab a hold of this not regularly made vineyard site. Aged for 2 years in barrique then 2 years in bottle prior to release, this wine shows broad maturity with a silkiness and great length. Wild blue berries are the concentrated fruit with a back end of coco nibs, vanilla and texture. The body of this wine is medium to medium plus but the fruit tannins are grippy enough to put up against Osso Bucco or just simply a charred ribeye steak with porcini butter.

2018 La Fortuna Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 08-21-2020
At this price point you could not get a more quality driven wine. This is a easy table red with a seriousness of a mature higher priced wine. Candied cherry is what stands out the most for me and its super attractive candied cherry. There's a bit of a savory herbal aroma somewhat similar to rosemary oil, the weight and bright fruit is what drives here. Acidity is medium and the finish is lengthy. A wine to enjoy with herbed roasted porchetta.

2017 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 08-21-2020
The initial nose shows aromas of dusty red soils rich in iron, red berries and slight wood smoke follow. Medium plus acidity on the mid palate but bright cherry finesse the mouth. The wine has great texture and lingering mouthfeel that is sure to pair with most tomato based dishes.

2016 Vinos del Viento "Montaña La Ermita de Santa Bárbara" Garnacha Campo de Borja
Review Date: 07-01-2020
For those seeking the perfect expression of old bush vine Garnacha, look no further because this is the one! Campo De Borja (DO), known for its dark bearing, well-draining soils consisting of large rocky pebbles and a unique micro-climate makes this a very special single vineyard bottling that is quite enjoyable. Think about a wine that this attractive price that is suitable for early enjoyment but can age as long as you have the patience to allow it. The introduction on the nose begins with black cherry, cranberry compote, sweet tobacco, smoked cedar plank and black volcanic salt. On the palate there is a concise preciseness of concentrated red berries along with gratifying tension that shows a merging of weight and length that is stunning. There is a special character to this wine and should not be missed for those looking for over delivering, crowd pleasing juice that is a perfect paring for a weekend of grilled meats generously seasoned with exotic spices, this wine can handle it all.

Fred Jerbis Italian Gin (750ml)
Review Date: 11-26-2019
This is by far one of my favorite gins. Fred Jerbis has not only created a stunningly aromatic gin, it is also has a profound mouthfeel that's not like any other I've ever tried. You absolutely get orange blossoms, saffron, mint, thyme, then lingering juniper berries and rowan berries. This finishes with a tad bit of sweetness that is natural. This is a perfect sipping gin. But if you must, a tonic or soda water is also a great complement to round out the flavors.
