2014 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 04-29-2019
Looking to add to your cellar? Does your Cabernet Sauvignon section look a bit sparse? The 2014 Mount Eden Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon would be a great choice. Forget about the overpriced usual suspects from Napa Valley; this vibrant mountain-grown Cabernet is the real deal. On par with Ridge's Monte Bello, the Mount Eden opens with an enticing floral and bramble fruit nose wrapped in an understated vanilla blanket. The pallet strikes a fine balance between plush cassis and silky, well-integrated tannins. This wine will continue to delight for decades to come.

2016 Dashe "Reserve" Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel
Review Date: 04-16-2019
Zinfandel is often overlooked as a serious option when shopping for a food friendly wine. Frequently relegated to two distinct categories (White zin & insanely high alcohol fruit bombs), Zin is regularly overshadowed by Pinot Noirs and Cabernet Sauvignons; but "California's Grape" has a great deal to offer savvy, value-minded customers. The Dashe, "Reserve Dry Creek Valley," Zinfandel is a perfect example of the variety. A classic Dry Creek Zin with a complex spectrum of flavors, balancing pure fruit and bright acidity. The husband & wife team at Dashe strive to make terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention. Aromas of dark brambly fruit abound, along with subtle cocoa and floral notes. The palate is alive with dark chocolate and black pepper spice underlying the velvety, intense midpalate. Finishing with a balanced, sweet red-fruit note this is definitely one of my go-to wines when manning the grill!

2014 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Review Date: 03-25-2019
Would you like to expand your Pinot Noir horizons? Thankfully California is blessed with an abundance of prime Pinot growing regions. Anderson Valley, Russian River & Santa Rita Hills garner most of the attention these days, but often overlooked is the Santa Cruz Mountains. With its varied soil types and cool maritime influence, this AVA produces some world-class wines. The 2014 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir is a prime example. Bursting with bing cherry cola, all-spice and a hint of tea; the seamless and polished 2014 remains true to its distinct mountain heritage.

2015 Deovlet "Sanford & Benedict Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Review Date: 02-03-2019
Another fine example of cool climate California Pinot Noir. Bursting with high-toned fruit wrapped in a blanket of baking spice, this wine is a stunner. Freshness and minerality abound; giving way to floral notes. Seamless structure along with racy acidity gives this Pinot great mouthfeel and an almost never-ending finish. Sure to impress even the most discerning of palates.
