2017 Ribbonwood (Framingham) Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 06-12-2018
This Marlborough gem is an absolute steal. Blended from single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc sourced from a unique site in Wairau Valley, the wine is especially aromatic and lively. Bright notes of gooseberry, grapefruit and zesty lime are countered with subtle spice, enlivening and refreshing the palate. Definitely pick this one up as a daily quaffer!

2015 Château Saint-Roch "Chimères" Côtes du Roussillon-Villages
Review Date: 05-18-2018
This is an unreal value in Cotes du Roussillon, with equal parts lush, perfumed Grenache and bright, high toned Carignane, rounded by smoky, gamey Syrah and deep, garrigue laden Mourvèdre. The distinctive black schist soils on which the vines of Saint Roch are planted impart an intensely mineral character to the full bodied, luxurious palate. Black fruit abounds, with aromas and flavors of lavender, strawberry preserves, stewed plum and black pepper, and a bright acidity throughout drives the finish home.

2012 Clairault "Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River (Black Label)
Review Date: 05-14-2018
A most excellent Margaret River Cabernet, the 2012 Clairault Estate Black Label is unequivocally lauded by critics and connoisseurs alike. Both savory and ripe fruited, this is a wine with firm tannins and a broad palate that will cellar quite well. More dark fruited than red, the wine exudes old world sophistication with new world energy: aromas of dried tobacco and clove commingle with flavors of graphite, black currant and boysenberry, leading to a very dry, powerful finish.

2016 Hanzell "Sebella" Sonoma Valley Chardonnay
Review Date: 05-12-2018
Hanzell is home to some of the oldest Chardonnay plantings in California, and the vineyards are Organically farmed as part of a larger integral ecosystem. Chickens, deer, orchards, you name it, they are most likely part of the Hanzell "Bio Farm." Their approach and care in the farming and winemaking process is evident from first sip of the Sebella Chardonnay, Hanzell's second label, crafted from the younger vines planted on the Estate. Crisp, aromatic and dry, this is a light to medium bodied Chardonnay that lacks nothing in complexity, but is unfussy and pure. The wine spends a short period in steel and neutral French oak, and the fruit sings, unadulterated.

2015 Laventura "Lanave" Rioja
Review Date: 05-11-2018
Brian MacRobert came to Rioja from South Africa, where he was raised, and had already established his name as a fine winemaker. In 2013, the Rioja venture MacRobert and Canals was established, with a focus on producing wines with a modern bent and a grounded, traditional foundation. The 2015 Lanave Rioja is an even blend of hand harvested Grenache and Tempranillo, and is vinified in open top fermenters, concrete, and finished in oak. The result is a medium bodied Rioja with very expressive ripe fruit and floral aromas of strawberry, violet leaf and wild berries, and a wonderfully persistent limestone mineral component that gives this wine lift and zest.

2016 Eric Cottat Sancerre Rouge
Review Date: 05-11-2018
Eric Cottat is one of our perennial favorites for Sancerre, and his approach to Pinot Noir is so fun and fresh. Pressed from Loire Valley fruit, the palate is very light and dry, with aromas and flavors of juicy red apple, tangerine pith, anisette and carnation. There is a delightful energy and lift to this Pinot... Throw on a slight chill and It's a great Summer evening apéritif!

Fallet-Dart "Clos du Mont" Brut Champagne (2004)
Review Date: 05-08-2018
"Clos du Mont" boasts a wonderful history dating back to 740, where fruit of the highest quality is cultivated. The 2004 offering is entirely barrel fermented, and shows tantalizing acidity. Aromas of golden sultana, cream, delicate anisette and white pepper make way to a lush, dry palate with endless complexity. Flavors of dark cocoa powder, marine minerality, and hints of clean, almost sherry like oxidation make this a wine that must be experienced by any Champagne lover who has the chance to do so.

2010 Fallet-Dart Vintage Brut Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
The 2010 Fallet Dart Brut is classic and opulent, with rich aromatics of red apple skin, walnut and spiced cherry. The palate is balanced, but ripe, with mild acidity and fine bubbles. What I enjoy most about this wine is the surprising finish, which offers an almost tannic pull, which makes it a wonderful wine to pair with fatty fare like foie gras.

Alfred Gratien "Cuvée Paradis" Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
If I could have a day in Paradise, I would choose to take a bottle of the Paradis rosé with me. There is no way I would miss the opportunity to savor the obscenely delicate palate that wafts aromas of creme brulée my way, only to entice me with lusciously spiced red delicious apple that sneaks into a lingering finish of bing cherry and summer strawberry. This is a wine based on the 2007 vintage, and offers bright acidity balanced with a toasty, textured quality that is unsurpassed.

Alfred Gratien Brut Classique Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
Based on the 2013 vintage, this Rosé Champagne from Alfred Gratien is a blend of 50% Chardonnay and equal parts Meunier and Pinot Noir. The assemblage is created by blending in reserves from a solera, which adds interesting complexity to the palate. This is not a rosé for the meek: savory aromas of white mushroom and delicate rhubarb are underpinned with a slight warm funk, and the palate is rife with acidity and minerality, but balanced by understated notes of frozen cherry and red currant.

2006 Alfred Gratien "Cuvée Paradis" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
2006 was a ripe vintage, and "Cuvée Paradis" from Alfred Gratien reflects this characteristic in the best way. Blended from the best forty barrels of the harvest, the assemblage is 65% Chardonnay and 35% Pinot Noir, from almost entirely Grand Cru sites in Côte des Blancs and Reims. There is unmistakeable evidence of barrel influence on the palate, with rich spice interwoven with riper red fruit notes of raspberry and red currant. A distinct sous bois herbaceousness draws the wine to a finish, leaving a clean impression.

Alfred Gratien Brut Classique Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
We are offering the esteemed Gratien Brut Classique at the lowest price in the entire country, and this is a Champagne you must try at least once. Based on the 2012 vintage, the wine is 100% barrel fermented and uses only the cuvée or the first pressing, and is blended with a third reserve wine aged in a solera! Yeasty aromas swirl in a haze of white and yellow flowers, and lightly nutty golden apple, and the palate packs an acid driven punch of green herbaceousness. The finish eases up a bit in intensity, and leaves a refreshing impression.

Le Brun de Neuville "Authentique" Brut Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
The Authentique Rosé is aged four years on the lees, and is a blend of 67% Chardonnay and 23% Pinot Noir. A light salmon hue, this wine has a pleasant and delicately textured palate with aromas and flavors of red apple, bright bing cherry and dried rose petal. Le Brun de Neuville "Authentique Assemblage" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
The "Authentique Assemblage" is aged on the lees five years, and is an almost even blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This Champagne emits rich aromas of baked apple, hazelnut and white and yellow flowers, due in part to the 30 percent reserve wines added to the cuvée. The palate, however is lighter than expected: delicate, with a fine bead, and a lusciously creamy back end.

2008 Le Brun de Neuville "Grand Vintage" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 05-08-2018
The 2008 vintage showed immense diurnal shifts in temperature, and a dry growing season. This resulted in fruit with high acidity and great complexity, which shows in the Grand Vintage brut from Le Brun De Neuville. Using only the cuveé, or the first pressing, this blend is almost entirely Chardonnay from the Bethon village in Sézanne, with four percent Pinot Noir included for structure. Aromas of underripe golden apple, subtle nutmeg, and delicate chalky mineral lead to a light bodied, bright, clean palate with hints of spiced raspberry and red currant. The finish is long with abundant, chalky minerality.

2013 Maysara "Cyrus - Momtazi Vineyard" McMinnville Pinot Noir (Biodynamic)
Review Date: 05-04-2018
In the world of Biodynamic and Natural wines, often times farming and vinification practices seem to matter more than quality and quaffability, but this is a wine that manages to reflect It's natural roots while remaining complex and maintaining balance. The nose is laden with umami aromas, with subtle black mushroom, tart raspberry, bing and black cherry, white pepper, and an animalistic, almost gamey undertone. The palate is surprisingly broader than expected from a wine with moderately low alcohol, and boasts an effusive, stony minerality, finishing long, with demure tannins.

2015 Smith Story "Pickberry Vineyard" Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 05-04-2018
Smith Story brings us one beautiful, deep violet hued, perfumed Cabernet, with subtle wafts of mint that commingle with aromas of black cherry, ripe raspberry, fresh tobacco leaf, pomegranate, anise and black pepper. Such complex aromas are commonly found in Cabernet of Sonoma Mountain AVA, with It's volcanic soils and extreme diurnal shifts in temperature, but this wine is particularly elegant, and sings on the palate with fine, balanced acidity, earthy undertones of green peppercorn, and mouthcoating, silky tannins. This is a wine that can easily cellar for 10 years and continue to evolve.

2011 Roederer Estate "L'Ermitage" Anderson Valley Brut Sparkling Wine
Review Date: 05-03-2018
L'Ermitage is the top of the line for Roederer Estate in Anderson Valley, and this wine is a stunning example of what can happen when Champenois culture and artistry meets California terroir. As is the case with all Roederer Estate wines, only the first pressing is used, but L'Ermitage is a cut above, with only the best base wines of a particularly exceptional vintage, with oak barrel aged reserve wines added to the mix. The result is a sparkling wine of extreme distinction and complexity, with a fine beaded, broad palate. A wonderful balance is struck here between sensuous, rich texture and clean, saline minerality, and the finish is persistent.

2015 Band of Vintners "Consortium" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 04-29-2018
Consortium comes from a "Band of Vintners" in Napa Valley, a group of seven wine industry insiders in Napa Valley who know their fruit. The result of their collaboration is a wonderfully crafted balance of Old and New World, highlighting their understanding of the region's wine and history. The nose is complex, with hints of ripe fruit, but with a slightly gamey undertone. Aromas of clove, cinnamon, red currant, black cherry, burnt orange peel and star anise come next. The palate, though predictably lush and dark fruit forward, has an unmistakable grilled green poblano note, a tribute to classic old-world Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine finishes big, with opulent gourmet spice, and mouth-gripping tannins.

2015 Chalone Vineyard "Estate Grown" Chalone Pinot Noir
Review Date: 04-21-2018
Chalone Vineyard is a very special site on California's Central Coast, with low nutrient, decomposed limestone soils and high elevations. The Heritage Clone Pinot Noir grown in this site possesses a distinctive minerality and concentration of flavor, due in part to the soil and cooler climate, but also the diurnal temperature shifts. The wine at first glance looks on the darker, more extracted side, and offers heady aromas of peony, tea rose and black cherry, but the palate is remarkably light and energetic, with balanced acidity and fine, mouth coating tannins.

2016 Arnot-Roberts "Watson Ranch" Napa Valley Chardonnay
Review Date: 04-17-2018
Planted on an extreme site as close to the San Pablo Bay as possible, Watson Ranch vineyard has unique soils composed of marine deposits over limestone. It's inevitable that Chardonnay harvested from the site will take on some of the briny, mineral saturated character of It's organically farmed home. In the 2016 "Watson Ranch" Napa Valley Chardonnay there are faintly leesy aromas with wafts of almond, lemon curd and chamomile, and the palate tells another fascinating story. Medium bodied and perfumed, flavors and aromas of star jasmine and seabed minerality dominate.

2016 Stony Hill Napa Valley White Riesling
Review Date: 04-17-2018
This is a wine that very clearly shows the characteristics of an old vine Napa Valley Riesling, with subtly aromatic notes of tropical white and yellow flowers, and a deep, rocky minerality. Harvested mostly from the Stony Hill Estate, the Riesling grows on vines planted in 1948: some of the oldest Riesling vines in California. The palate is very slightly off dry, but barely noticeably so, making it a great apéritif that easily transitions to entrées.

2015 Hyde de Villaine (HdV) "Hyde Vineyard" Chardonnay Carneros Napa
Review Date: 04-13-2018
The 2015 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay from HDV is everything a balanced Carneros Chardonnay should be: expressive of terroir, fruit and climate. Crafted from old vine California clones, this wine is light and energetic on the palate, yet highly concentrated and mineral driven, with light citrus and white floral aromatics. The wine has a subtly round textural element that suggests the slightest hint of butter, but remains restrained and focused on a sense of place, which is one of the coolest, windiest vineyards in Carneros.

2016 J&H Selbach Saar Riesling Spatlese
Review Date: 04-10-2018
We are so excited to present the 2016 Selbach vintage to you, just in time for Summer! Not only are these wines classic and affordable, but they are complex and charming all at once. A standout for me in the lineup was the Selbach Saar Spatlese: fresh and floral, with notes of tangerine pith, star jasmine leaf, slate, and just a hint of sweetness. This wine is definitely on the drier side of Spatlese, and has a bright, refreshing acidity that enlivens the palate and drives the aromatics home.

2015 Domaine Drouhin "Arthur" Dundee Hills Chardonnay
Review Date: 04-09-2018
True to their motto: "French Soul, Oregon Soil," Domaine Drouhin is the benchmark for Willamette Valley wines, expressing the delicacy and finesse of Burgundy varietals, with Oregon grit. Pressed whole cluster from 100% Dijon Clones, the 2015 "Arthur" Chardonnay is named after winemaker Véronique Drouhin's son, and is represents all Chardonnay can be: mineral driven with focused acidity, yet generously textured and powerful. Aromas of just ripe golden delicious apple and underripe pineapple are followed by a palate brimming with almost saline minerality, lemon zest and light brioche, with an enduring, sensual finish.

2013 Jonata "Todos" Central Coast Red Blend
Review Date: 03-30-2018
Jonata "Todos" is a Syrah based blend from a cool climate, single site estate vineyard in Ballard Canyon. Winemaker Matt Dees harvests prime Syrah and Sangiovese (yes, Sangiovese is 15% of the blend!) from the vineyard rich in Careaga Sandstone, allowing excellent drainage. These conditions in the vineyard create concentrated fruit and wine, obvious from first sight: A deep, opaque ruby core and magenta rim show the intensity of extraction. Aromatic hints of garrigue and baked granite give way to an ample, beautifully balanced palate with bright acidity and chewy tannins. Wild berry, cocoa powder and paprika notes are trailed by a refreshing spearmint herbaceousness.

The 2017 release of OVR or "Old Vine Rosé" is a blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir and Grenache Gris, and will please any Rosé lover. Made from Grenache Blanc and Roussane cultivated in the Biodynamically farmed "Beeswax Vineyard" of Arroyo Seco AVA, this is a stunner of a white from Bonny Doon. Gauzy aromas of beeswax, golden delicious apple, honey and apple cider are slightly misleading, as the palate manages to be both surpringly viscous and bursting with energy. The fruit is biodynamically farmed, and the Tulbaugh Estate animals roam freely in the vineyards, adding to the unique ecosystem. 2014 Liquid Farm "Golden Slope" Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay
Review Date: 03-18-2018
Hailing from the small production Santa Rita Hills winery Liquid Farms, the 2014 "Golden Slope" Chardonnay is expressive of the AVA's chalky, fossil rich soil. In addition to all the scintillating charm this minerality brings, the "Golden Slope" boasts a lightly golden hue, subtle spring floral notes, and possesses richer texture and concentration of fruit than some of Liquid Farm's other barrel selections.

2015 Brewer-Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay
Review Date: 03-18-2018
The 2015 Brewer Clifton Chardonnay is expressive of the varietal's diversity, with 100% Estate fruit from three cool climate vineyard parcels. These sandy, loamy parcels contribute to the wine's acidity and saline minerality, which lend a zesty, stimulating quality to the palate. This is one California Chardonnay that doesn't go through any malolactic fermentation whatsoever, and is aged in only neutral barrels. As a result of this minimalist approach to winemaking, the wine doesn't show any oak influence, but manages to acquire a delicately viscous texture that maintains It's balance.

2014 Marietta "Gibson Block" McDowell Valley Syrah
Review Date: 03-09-2018
The 2014 Marietta Cellars Gibson Block McDowell Valley Syrah comes from a formidable heritage. Dry farmed, and located in a prime, central plot in the McDowell AVA, the Syrah is produced from vines planted in the 1940's, originating from clonal material from the 1890's. Uniquely fruited aromas of ripe apricot and blackberry are rooted by more savory notes of chaparral, rocky minerality and black pepper. The palate is lavish, plush and fruit dominated, but has a chewy, pleasantly mouth coating tannin that is a nod to the rustic wines of old California.

2015 Roserock (Drouhin Oregon) "Zéphirine" Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir

Named aptly for the largest blooming, most fragrant climbing roses in horticulture, the Roserock "Zephirine" is intensely floral. With arresting wafts of violet, Bourbon roses, dusty black cherry and anise, this Drouhin beauty is as intoxicating as It's namesake. The palate is expansive and bright, with opulent flavors of damson plum, torched orange peel, allspice and black and white pepper. Review Date: 02-27-2018
This is a Chilean Cabernet with some serious character! From first pour, the Aquitania gives indication of It's uniqueness: light in color and extraction, with more red and garnet hues than dark ones. Bracing, sharp aromas of roasted pablano and shishito pepper seem to leap from the glass, nestled in a cloud of stewed strawberry and all spice. 2016 Les Freres Perroud Bourgogne Pinot Noir (organic)
Review Date: 02-27-2018
You may know Les Frères Perroud for their wonderful cru Beaujolais, which I have tried and greatly enjoyed in the past, for their earthy depth and structure. I was delighted and surprised by their foray into Burgundy, which, though very lightly extracted and showing gamey aromas, opens up to a luscious, spice dominated palate. After the white and black pepper, anise and all spice come through, the most unusual elements of all make an appearance: fragrant guava, dried bing cherry and layered floral notes. This wine is drinking very well now, with easy tannins, but the brighter acidity that is characteristic of the vintage ensures ageability.

This Zin is zippy, perfumed, clean and bright, with a lighter texture than many and room to smell (and taste) the roses!

2014 Mt. Brave Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 02-09-2018
Mt. Brave Mt. Veeder Cabernet comes to us from winemaker Chris Carpenter, who had great success as winemaker at Lokoya and Cardinale. As a result of Carpenter's expertise and the magnificent high elevation vineyard site, this wine is a cellar-worthy expression of Mount Veeder Cabernet that rivals wines twice the price. With aromas of cassis, fresh mint, delicate allspice, violet and rose petal, and a palate sustained by a relentless, rocky minerality trailed by graphite, this is a powerhouse.
