Damien Hugot Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 02-07-2024
Glad I put some of this wine in my cellar! The fruit on this is very open knit with berry and fiji apple through the middle of the mouth. While the nose may be a little tight, that may be due to temperature - I find the nose on champagne starts to show really well at 50 degrees. For all grand cru fruit in these bottles, you can't find a better Champagne value. This is definitely a wine you can pick up a case at this price and quality, and feel great about opening a bottle of grand cru champagne any given day of the year!

Pierre Paillard "Les Terres Roses" Grand Cru Extra Brut Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 02-07-2024
This cuvee of rose is made as chardonnay blended with red wine - and the fruit on the pinot noir comes through quite well with excellent fresh and supple raspberry in the mouth. For fans of the immediately approachable fresh and clean style of blanc des noirs champagne this is a winner! (XIX - mostly '19 vintage).
2021 Phélan-Ségur, St-Estèphe
Review Date: 02-06-2024
Definitely a standout from the UGC tasting, I am pleasantly surprised to see so many critics have the same takeaway! Excellently integrated weight of berry fruit backing the pleasantly ouvert aromatics. It was quite remarkable to me the sweet cameroonian tobacco and cedar notes on this wine were so profound - while in the body carrrying such weight and lingering finish. A wine I kept smelling its evolution in the glass well after the wine was gone, so high expectations and one I will lay down in my cellar.

2019 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough
Review Date: 08-23-2023
The nose on this pinot is striking and broad, with handbag leather, mushroom, truffle, plum, and coastal forest floor. On the palate, the wine is very well balanced; some plummy weight and nicely integrated acidity and soft but weighty tannins. My favorite pinots are those I keep coming back to smell - and this is definitely one of them. I would personally cellar this for 6 months and start drinking it over the next 3 years. I expect the nose to really explode as it lays down- and for a savory and earthy pinot this is a really phenomenal pick to pop, smell - and smile. On my top 5 favorite pinots I have tasted this year.
