2015 Domaine de la Janasse Cotes du Rhone Reserve
Review Date: 12-07-2018
This is an absolute knock-out wine! Gorgeous aromas of bitter chocolate, marzipan, wild raspberry and exotic spice notes. The palate is a sexy mash-up of red fruits, dried herbs, beef blood and crushed volcanic rock all wrapped around silky tannins and racy acidity. The 2015 Janasse Cotes-du-Rhone shows off the very best of the 2015 vintage in the Rhone Valley which is renowned for its fruit-forwardness and power.

What a beautiful Chablis for under $25! Loaded with savory notes as well as aromas of seashells, iodine and white flower. Orchard fruits and citrus notes dominate the palate as the wine seamlessly flows to a fresh and zesty finish. The perfect Chablis for entertaining or seafood that easily outperforms Chablis' twice the price.

2016 Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Villages
Review Date: 11-21-2018
I was lucky enough to have a wonderful sit-down tasting with Véronique Drouhin, who graciously poured an array of amazing offerings while providing facts and stories that gave a great backstory to why many of the wines outperformed their neighbors. While they make stunning Grand Crus and Premier Crus, one wine that always stands out as a bargain to me is the Côte de Beaune-Villages. A bit larger-scaled, more rustic wine with darker fruits more apparent, spice notes, and an earthier bent, this offering is a great showcase of what Domaine Drouhin can do and of the subtle differences between the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.

While they make stunning Grand Crus and Premier Crus, one wine that always stands out as a bargain to me is the Côte de Nuits-Villages. The 2016 Villages has good structure, with elegant red fruit and subtle spice notes all wrapped around a sleek, feminine body. This is a pretty wine that showcases everything there is to love about the Côte de Nuits without emptying your wallet.

2017 Julien Schaal Rangen de Thann Volcanique Grand Cru Riesling Alsace
Review Date: 11-20-2018
From one of the most highly-regarded vineyards in all of Alsace comes the 2017 Julien Schaal Riesling Rangen de Thann Grand Cru Volcanique. Minerals, wet stone and the slightest hint of peach blossoms appear on the nose while the palate surges ahead with an energetic array of almond skin, orchard fruits, petrol and mandarin flavors. An impossibly good wine from an amazing vineyard site you owe it to yourself to grab a few of these before they're all gone.

Review Date: 11-20-2018
A wonderful juxtaposition to the "Sommerberg" the Kastelberg is driven more to the minerality side of the Riesling scale with orchard fruits and petrol notes. More powerful and rich than the Sommerberg this is a stunning Riesling that deftly packages its power with a wonderful gracefulness.

From the moment I brought the glass to my nose I knew I had something special here. This wine drinks like a wine 2-3 times the price with ease and if you're looking for a case-worthy wine to purchase this holiday season this should be your first choice. The nose is a gorgeous mixture of spice, dried herbs, berry and game aromas. The palate deftly blends berry, spice, earth, minerals and crunchy tannins on an explosive yet somehow balanced palate. A blend of multiple 1er Cru Beaune vineyards the 2012 153rd Anniversary Cuvee is greater than the sum of its parts. 2016 Charles Baur Muscat Alsace
Review Date: 10-18-2018
I love a Muscat as a change of pace from the other aromatic whites. A Muscat offers a slightly different taste profile as it tends to lean towards orange and tangerine flavors rather than peach, mango and apricot flavors that Gewurztraminers do. The 2016 Charles Baur Muscat Alsace is killer deal with sexy aromas of orange flowers and spice while the palate bursts with tangerine and mandarin flavors.

This is a wine that punches far above its weight-class. Served blind I would have easily guessed that this was a Chateauneuf-du-Pape because of its seductive, Grenache dominant nose. Beautiful aromas of raspberry kirsch, crushed volcanic rock and spice notes. The palate is silky-smooth with a cool rush of red fruits, minerals,, spice and garrigue notes. 2008 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace
Review Date: 06-27-2018
This wine is spectacular! How rare is it to be able to buy a reference point wine that is considered to be one of the greatest wines from a region for under $60? The Trimbach Riesling "Cuvee Frederic Emile" is one of Alsace's greatest wines and the 2008 might be the best rendition yet. This wine is loaded with petrol, iodine and citrus notes with a racy palate of crushed rocks, menthol, nut skin, white grapefruit and saline flavors. The energy here is off the charts with an incredibly long finish that almost vibrates on the palate because of the complexity and acidity that this beauty packs. I have already consumed 3 bottles of this beautiful elixir and intend to buy many more to enjoy over the warm weather days that lie ahead.

2016 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Myglands" (Monopole)
Review Date: 06-13-2018
Faiveley is doing some amazing things in Mercurey. They built a winery in Mercurey, which means they no longer have to truck north to Gevrey-Chambertin all their fruit for vinification--the fruit never leaves the village and can be picked at optimal levels and vinified immediately. The results have been jaw-dropping, with a level of quality I have never seen from Mercurey wines, which are well-known as being hard and angular in nature. Now these latest offerings from Faiveley display beautiful red fruit and are amazingly open and ready-to-drink in their youth. The Myglands is seductive on the nose with aromas of red cherry compote, cinnamon and hints of crushed red roses. The palate is packed with gorgeous red fruits and subtle spice notes along with great persistence on the palate and a fresh, long and lively finish.

2016 Domaine Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Review Date: 01-22-2018
While the 2016 Mazy is a bit more feminine the 2016 Esmonin Ruchottes Chambertin is definitely masculine in style. Notes of black fruits, spice and even a slight graphite note pepper the nose of this wine while on the palate there is ample weight and delineation. The 2005 Lynch Bages Pauillac is exactly what you want from one of Bordeaux's premier properties. 2005 was a fantastic vintage in Bordeaux and the 2005 Lynch Bages is a monumental wine. A sumptuous ruby red in the glass followed by aromas of red berries, volcanic rock and slight nuances of mocha-laced oak.
