2013 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 12-11-2018
Wow! Is what I first wrote down as this exploded on my palate, this has a lot more Montalcino in the glass than past years. Dark fruit, leather, terroir and good tannin structure, balanced with acidity, this is Brunello at its best!!! It reminds me of the 2007, that’s still in my cellar. A wine to buy for long term, will age over the next Five to Ten years.

2015 Petra Zingari Toscana
Review Date: 12-11-2018
The nose is classic"Super Tuscan", ripe cherries and strawberries and a hint of coco powder. On the palate of this medium-bodied wine, you will find the fruit describe above with a touch of minerals and soft tannins, which gives this wine a very lush feel to the palate and has an incredible long finish. Turn down the heat in your house; this will keep you warm on chilly winter evening!

2016 Tenuta di Sesta Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 12-04-2018
This Rosso was aged for one year in 20hl Slovenian oak barrels and unites the imposing structure of Brunello with the freshness and vivacity of a young wine; classic ripe strawberries, cherry-cola, and cranberry with a hint of leather and spice on the finish. This can be drunk young, but will evolve over the next couple of years. WARNING! This is one of those wines that will make you think: how did that bottle empty itself? This 2016 ROCKS !!!

2016 d'Arce, Côtes de Castillon
Review Date: 11-27-2018
Classic 2016. Don't let the low price scare you away. This reminds me of the 1997 Cantemerle: it drinks great young, but will age (if you can keep your hands off it.) Wild spicy berry and floral character. Full-bodied, with soft tannins.

2015 Querciabella Chianti Classico
Review Date: 10-23-2018
this 2015 Chianti Classico is a model of elegance and class. Firm yet well-integrated tannins provide the backdrop for expressive red cherries, licorice, tobacco and spices. The 2015 radiates across the palate with notable class. It has great fruit and plenty of structure.

2017 Blason Friulano Isonzo
Review Date: 10-23-2018
This varietal (formerly Tocai Friulano, the pride of Friuli), although so much less-known than Pinot Grigio, has become the staff favorite at K&L, as well as among our more adventurous customers. Not like the thin, simple Italian whites of yesteryear, this wine is a mouthful. It has really great aromatics, with hints of tarragon and acacia blossom, and a stunning complexity that comes from its unique soil composition in this distant corner of Italy. So when the heat is on this summer, reach for a cool Friulano—we know you’ll love it!

2017 Blason Pinot Grigio Isonzo del Friuli
Review Date: 10-23-2018
This is a mouthful of Pinot Grigio and a wine that has body and is perfectly balanced with zippy acidity and very aromatic, good complexity, length and that subtle elegance that shows muscle and long and flowing finish. It is a little spicy with red apple and melon, and LOTS of minerals on the aftertaste

2017 Erste e Neue Müller-Thurgau Alto Adige
Review Date: 10-23-2018
From one of our favorite importers of Italian wines, Oliver McCrum, this producer makes wonderfully affordable wines with the quality and authenticity we've come to expect from one of Oliver's selections. The Müller-Thurgau--a Riesling cross created in Switzerland in the 1880s--comes from limestone-rich soils of the Alto Adige. McCrum describes the wine thusly: "Exuberant aroma of lime peel and flowers; zesty, bright and dry on the palate; delicious as a dry aperitif or with cured meats. I drink a lot of this in warmer weather as an aperitif."

2017 Castello di Verduno "Basadone" Pelaverga
Review Date: 10-23-2018
I first tried this grape varietal with the 2008 vintage, when I met Mario Andrion (Oenologist) and I soon planed a trip to visit the winery in May of 2010 (www.castellodiverduno.it) they have a great hotel ! Pelaverga has a DOC, in the region of Piedmont in Italy. The small zone has a vineyard area of only eight hectares, and includes the commune of Verduno, from which the name is taken, as well as parts of the communes of La Morra and Roddi d´Alba in the province of Cuneo. It’s an amazing medium-bodied red, intense fragrant nose, showing spicy overtones with lots of black pepper and nutmeg, as well as fruity sensations reminiscent of cherries and strawberries. Truly a taste sensation, you must try.

2015 Corte Rugolin Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore
Review Date: 10-23-2018
Valpolicella has undergone an amazing transformation from the 60s Bolla version with a red-checked tablecloth to the suave and ultra-hip wine region. This ripasso is a midway point between simple and fresh and the power and size of the Amarone taking the best from both. A wine to drink straight from the bottle, with a straw or with roasted rabbit, or complex pasta dishes. Rockin' Ripasso!

2016 Farnetella Lucilla Toscano Rosso
Review Date: 10-23-2018
This is one of my favorite producers from Tuscany. This is their "Super Tuscan" - a very user friendly wine, the blend is Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Lots of dark skinned fruit with spice, minerals that complete each other on the nose and palate. The wine has pleasantly soft tannins, but good acidity to pull it all together. Buy two, the first one will disappear quickly. This 2016 ROCKS !!!

Montechiara Prosecco
Review Date: 10-23-2018
Italian bubbles for Eleven bucks, what did we just step back in time? Nope just another Great bargain wine from K & L! This is the perfect wine for all your holiday parties, for there is nothing better than Prosecco, for crowd pleasing and value. This has a light straw yellow hue and has a fine mousse and delicate, with a long-lasting bead. On the nose you will find generous fruit, releasing hints of pear and nectarines. The palate has wonderful balance and elegance, dry & crisp, but admirable fullness and length, closely mirroring the nose. The perfect party wine all year long. Don't forget to grab a bottle of Aperol Aperitivo for your Spritz's.

2013 Ronchi "Ronchi" Barbaresco
Review Date: 10-23-2018
The wine’s perfume is pure Nebbiolo: raspberry fruit and dried rose petals with a touch of tobacco and lots of cedar, bursting with sweet fruit, tar, minerals, displaying outstanding depth and fine overall balance. This wine will drink well now and over the next few years, best with the heartiest meats or stews. Better yet, serve after dinner with some great aged cheeses (Pecorino Romano, Parmigiano-Reggiano or Asiago) and an olive tapenade.

2013 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 10-23-2018
So many Brunellis and so little time. This wine is from this extraordinary portion of Montalcino's most famous single vineyard, "Montosoli," and is full of black cherry, cinnamon, anise, cardamom, and leather; spicy, gamey, full of what I call sweet earth, (that Montalcino, dusty minerality) it's a more rustic wine than the one above. I would give this a couple hours of breathing time and drink this over the next couple of years.

2012 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Review Date: 10-23-2018
A few of these will go down in my cellar next to their older siblings and will try to forget that they are there. Gioberto Zannoni and his son Angelo have hit another one out of the ballpark This is a classic 2012 Brunello, needs a couple of hours to open up.

2017 Agostino Pavia Grignolino d'Asti
Review Date: 10-23-2018
Grignolino is a very distinctive grape variety native to Piedmont. It combines pale, Pinot-like color with mouthfilling grip (some tannins). I think of this grape variatal as a dark rose and I utilize it as one, cranberry fruit flavors, herbal and rhubarb notes with great acidity. It is one of the classic matches with salumi, and it also compliments a broad range of rich or flavorful summertime foods. I take this out of the refrigerator about a half an hour before serving, this really brings out the fruit. The perfect spring red!

2017 Abbazia di Novacella Schiava Alto Adige
Review Date: 09-18-2018
Schiava, otherwise known as vernatsch, is not widely seen in the U.S., but it makes up a considerable portion of the red wines from Alto Adige and Trentino. At its best it is a bright, very dry red with strawberry notes and lively acidity. This one from Abbazia di Novacella is a natural with food. The color is like a dark rose, and it shares qualities of rose, too, being eminently quaffable and highly chillable. This was a HUGH hit in my consumer tasting in San Francisco last week, buy a few because the first bottle empties quickly.

Woo-hoo! Baricci’s back in town! Ever time I raise a glass of this wine to my lips, it brings me back to Montalcino. Why? because there is so much Montalcino in the glass. 2013 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 09-11-2018
Impressive nose, with loads of ripe fruit, this is full-bodied with some tannin structure that gives this wine a backbone to age.The fruit is impressive, rich and concentrated. The wine boasts excellent length, with sweet ripe strawberries, black cherry, leather and a spicy nose with a little Tuscan dust and minerals on the finish. It is drinkable now, with a couple of hours in a decanter, or I would give this wine time to improve and continue to evolve for another ten years.

2016 La Fortuna "Fortunello" Rosso di Toscano
Review Date: 09-11-2018

On the palate of this full-bodied wine, you will find the fruit describe above with a touch of minerals with some tannin structure, which gives this wine a great back bone and very lush feel to the palate and has an incredible long finish. 2016 Silvano Follador "Cartizze" Prosecco Superiore Brut Nature
Review Date: 08-09-2018
The Superiore di Cartizze comes from the most famous “vineyard zone” in the region, a 266-acre slope framed by the villages of San Pietro Barbozza, Saccol and Santo Stefano (from where the Folladors hail). This 2016 Cartizze is DRY; I swear smoke left my mouth after the first taste. That does not mean it is not a complex wine. I still get that granny smith apple up front and red apple and a touch of nectarine on the aftertaste. At 11.5%, this is a great wine to serve for all your holiday parties, very crowd pleasing.

This blend of three different grape varieties, grown in the classic district of Terlano (South-Tyrol), is as versatile a wine as you'll find from anywhere, and a seriously good value besides. A blend used quite successfully for over 100 years, this cuvee of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, fermented at controlled temperature in stainless steel vats offers fruity aromatics with light yeasty notes and a taste that is always harmonious though quite strong on the palate and very persistent.

This Pinot Nero, (Pinot Noir) is a lovely wine. Sweet perfumed cherries, flowers and spices all come together in this harmonious wine. Torti’s Pinot captures an attractive middle ground between the lighter and terrior driven styles of Pinot being made in Alto Adige. Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva is simply beautiful. The opulent, forward fruit that is typical of the year is present, but a firm sense of structure keeps things from going over the top. If that sounds appealing you’ll love this wine. Dark red fruit, flowers, minerals and spices come together beautifully in this Riserva. Buy a few for the Fathers day gathering and a bottle or two for Pops as well.
