2013 Il Valentiano "Campo di Marzo" Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 10-18-2018
Here is a wine that packs a wallop and lots of bang for your buck all in one! Give this Brunello about an hour to open up and stand back, on the palate you will find strawberries and black cherries, a little bitter coco and some toasty oak & vanilla, fine tannins and a hint of Montalcino dust on the long finish.

2017 Abbazia di Novacella Schiava Alto Adige
Review Date: 09-18-2018
Schiava, otherwise known as vernatsch, is not widely seen in the U.S., but it makes up a considerable portion of the red wines from Alto Adige and Trentino. At its best it is a bright, very dry red with strawberry notes and lively acidity. This one from Abbazia di Novacella is a natural with food. The color is like a dark rose, and it shares qualities of rose, too, being eminently quaffable and highly chillable. This was a HUGH hit in my consumer tasting in San Francisco last week, buy a few because the first bottle empties quickly.

2015 Vigneti Massa "Montecitorio" Timorasso Cru
Review Date: 09-11-2018
This is white wine for a red wine drinker. There is so much concentration and depth of flavor, intensity, complexity and downright delicousness here, you'll have a hard time ever sipping on a light quaffing white wine ever again. Made from 100% Timorasso, a rare Piedmontese varietal.

2016 Baricci Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 09-11-2018
Woo-hoo! Baricci’s back in town! Ever time I raise a glass of this wine to my lips, it brings me back to Montalcino. Why? because there is so much Montalcino in the glass. This Rosso reveals perfumed, ripe fruit of plum, cassis and kirsch, some leather and cassis mid-palate, and earthiness that meld into ripe strawberries, spices and minerals on the long finish. WARNING !!! the 2015 rosso sold out very quickly, this will also...

2015 Blason Bruma Bianco Friuli
Review Date: 09-11-2018
Wow, Amazing aromas the aromatics are truly something from a flower market. On the palate I get white peaches, melon, with subtle tropical flavors, zippy acidity and incredible length with a dry finish. Here is a wine made for brunch and the last days of Summer & early Fall.( I hate to say this so early, but would be a Rockin wine for your Thanksgiving table)

2013 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 09-11-2018
Impressive nose, with loads of ripe fruit, this is full-bodied with some tannin structure that gives this wine a backbone to age.The fruit is impressive, rich and concentrated. The wine boasts excellent length, with sweet ripe strawberries, black cherry, leather and a spicy nose with a little Tuscan dust and minerals on the finish. It is drinkable now, with a couple of hours in a decanter, or I would give this wine time to improve and continue to evolve for another ten years.

2016 La Fortuna "Fortunello" Rosso di Toscano
Review Date: 09-11-2018
This is another wine that earned two stars from me. Made of 100% Sangiovese the nose is classic ripe cherries and strawberries and a hint of coco powder. On the palate of this full-bodied wine, you will find the fruit describe above with a touch of minerals with some tannin structure, which gives this wine a great back bone and very lush feel to the palate and has an incredible long finish. This will age, but it will be very hard not to drink this.

2013 Rocca di Montegrossi "Geremia" Toscana
Review Date: 08-31-2018
Geremia is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 24 months in French oak. Lots of dark skinned fruit with spice, minerals, and toasty oak that complete each other on the nose and palate, and the wine has pleasantly soft tannins, but good acidity to pull it all together.

2015 Le Battistelle "Roccolo del Durlo" Soave Classico
Review Date: 08-09-2018
This 2015, from an outstanding vintage throughout the Italy, offers an elegant nose of sweet herbal flowers: chamomile, elder flower, iris. Pleasant on the palate with a hint of almond, it makes a wonderful aperitif or sipping wine, though it is just as nice with a variety of lighter foods.

2016 Le Battistelle "Battistelle" Soave Classico
Review Date: 08-09-2018
Wow! That’s what several of us were saying at a staff tasting last week, where this Soave was the first wine we tried. Pure and fresh, this is a delicious dry white wine. Soave is one of Italy’s most popular whites, probably because the good ones like this are so smooth, light and easy to drink.

2016 Silvano Follador "Cartizze" Prosecco Superiore Brut Nature
Review Date: 08-09-2018
The Superiore di Cartizze comes from the most famous “vineyard zone” in the region, a 266-acre slope framed by the villages of San Pietro Barbozza, Saccol and Santo Stefano (from where the Folladors hail). This 2016 Cartizze is DRY; I swear smoke left my mouth after the first taste. That does not mean it is not a complex wine. I still get that granny smith apple up front and red apple and a touch of nectarine on the aftertaste. At 11.5%, this is a great wine to serve for all your holiday parties, very crowd pleasing.

2017 Cantina Terlano "Terlaner Classico" White Blend Alto Adige
Review Date: 08-09-2018
This blend of three different grape varieties, grown in the classic district of Terlano (South-Tyrol), is as versatile a wine as you'll find from anywhere, and a seriously good value besides. A blend used quite successfully for over 100 years, this cuvee of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, fermented at controlled temperature in stainless steel vats offers fruity aromatics with light yeasty notes and a taste that is always harmonious though quite strong on the palate and very persistent.

San Venanzio Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore Brut
Review Date: 08-08-2018
This is a wine of great balance and elegance and an excellent aperitif for all social occasions. A must have for the end of summer and fall seasons, for yourself and if guests drop by. On the nose you will find generous fruit, releasing hints of apples, peaches and tropical fruit, plus wisteria blossoms, wonderful balance and elegance complement a pleasurably spiciness. The Palate is velvety, crisp, and fruity, admirable fullness and length, closely mirroring the nose.

2013 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 08-03-2018
The wines of Poggio Salvi are rich, ripe, dense and full, but retain their balance and elegance. The 2013 Brunello is a stellar example of the vintage, and an exceptional bargain at this price. The palate has pretty black cherry fruit with nice earthy, leather, iodine and spicy notes, great structure and good balance of acidity and tannins, and an aftertaste that is incredibly long.

2013 Negretti Barolo
Review Date: 08-02-2018
Love the 2013 vintage of this wine. The nose brings aromas of dried cherry and roses, and on the palate you will find raspberries, tar, tobacco, truffle, and a little Langhe dust with a good tannin structure. I really enjoy the elegance to this wine, and with all of its varietal purity here, I recommend decanting for a couple hours...or even aging a couple of years (up to five or six years if you are that patient). This would show extremely well with a wild mushroom risotto or a barbecue Tri-tip.

2017 Torti Pinot Noir Pavia
Review Date: 07-31-2018
This Pinot Nero, (Pinot Noir) is a lovely wine. Sweet perfumed cherries, flowers and spices all come together in this harmonious wine. Torti’s Pinot captures an attractive middle ground between the lighter and terrior driven styles of Pinot being made in Alto Adige. If you enjoy European-influenced Pinot with acidity, vibrancy and balance, this will blow you away! Melt some strong cheese, dip some bread and veggies in there, and enjoy with a glass (or a bottle) Great wine for all your late summer Bar-B-Ques.

2014 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana
Review Date: 07-24-2018
This wine is 100% Sangiovese and a small marvel of class and power, especially when the vintage is taken into account. There is wonderful richness of fruit, which melds beautifully with the aristocratic oak, giving spicy scents which come through on the palate, dark-fruit, ripe strawberries with concentrated aromas of blackberries, dark coco powder and stony minerals. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and an incredibly long finish, will age very well.

2017 Villa Poggio Salvi "Caspagnolo" Chianti Colli Senesi
Review Date: 07-24-2018
Chianti Colli Senesi is perhaps Chianti's most unsung subzone, located on the hills surrounding Siena and I love what his area can do to Sangiovese. This Poggio Salvi is just bang for your buck, medium- bodied, dark fruit and a little bit of Siena on the palate. Buy a couple for you next Bar-B –Que, bugers or fowl would love this.

2016 Villa Poggio Salvi Rosso di Montalcino

Cherry, plum, and spice flavors are sweet and ripe, while fresh acidity and moderate tannins provide structure. Displays fine balance and length. This fragrant, beautiful wine spent eight months in neutral oak casks, which has resulted in an intense, balanced red, very much a baby Brunello, and very much deserving of your finest pork and veal dishes.

2014 Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 06-12-2018
Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva is simply beautiful. The opulent, forward fruit that is typical of the year is present, but a firm sense of structure keeps things from going over the top. If that sounds appealing you’ll love this wine. Dark red fruit, flowers, minerals and spices come together beautifully in this Riserva. Buy a few for the Fathers day gathering and a bottle or two for Pops as well.

2016 Valle dell'Acate "Tenuta Ibidini" Insolia Sicilia

2015 Arnaldo Caprai Montefalco Rosso
Review Date: 05-18-2018
This Montefalco Rosso from one of Umbria's finest producers is produced from Sangiovese and a small percentage of Sagrantino and Merlot grapes. Fermentation and maceration occurs over 10-15 days, with a pumping over performed twice a day in order to extract color and aromas from the skins. From the intense ruby red color to the pronounced aromas of ripe red fruit and hint of vanilla, you know this is going to be a big, ample wine. And the taste does not disappoint. A great red for all your summer get-togethers.

2014 Pasetti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

There is nothing musty or old-fashioned about this straightforward red, with fresh, "modern" styling in its rich, dark fruit and sweet tannins. Made entirely of the Montepulciano grape from the region of Abruzzo, this will work well with a pizza/pasta or just a great wine to serve to the "family" on Sunday night. Plays well with food -- especially tricky tomato sauce. Nice lift and acidity, but with the ripe fruit flavors of Abruzzo, which is located on the "calf" of the boot of Italy.

The arrival of the spring months means, among other things, picnics and cookouts with generous platters of cold cuts, barbecued chicken, grilled vegetables, and a host of other marvels. What to drink with it all? Lambrusco! This one is one of my personal favorite. The purple froth on this is really amazing to watch rise in your glass.
