2008 Jean-Louis Denois "Les Oliviers" Syrah Vin de Pays D'Oc
Review Date: 02-17-2011
Wanted to like this, but it took a day to settle down and even then was just ok. At first very funky, vegetal, a little rubber, too young (slight hint of spritz) and off balance. On day two more fruit and more balanced. There's better, even at this price, look to Central CA for every day syrahs.
Price:
$9.99
2008 Brancott Pinot Noir South Island
Review Date: 02-17-2011

Bulleit "Frontier" Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
Review Date: 06-17-2010
Smooth, some vanilla and oak, hint of pleasant sourness...doesn't need any water, but good with a little ice.
Price:
$24.99
2001 Lopez de Heredia "Viña Cubillo" Crianza, Rioja
Review Date: 05-07-2010
Classic flavors of cedar, leather etc. Perfect with ham and other salty meaty foods. This is not fruity globby stuff, but classic food fare with good acidity, herbs and spice. Enjoy some old school crianza instead of the fake fruit stuff.
Price:
$23.99
2007 Perrin & Fils Côtes du Rhône-Villages
Review Date: 07-20-2009

Good acidity, some fruit and tannins, but not overly balanced.
2007 Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Drachenstein "Dragonstone" Riesling
Review Date: 06-22-2009
Could have a little more acidity...nice fruit though. Not sure about the food pairing possibilities, but would make a great aperitif.

2008 Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 06-20-2009
Wow, 8.99, hope it stays at this price point. Compares very favorably to Kim Crawford '08 and Chasing Venus '07. Slightly lighter in weight, but great grapefruit aroma and taste. Better as a cocktail than with food maybe. Unless it's Sushi?

1997 Lopez de Heredia "Vina Tondonia" Crianza Rosado Rioja, Spain
Review Date: 06-20-2009
Very interesting wine. Starts off smelling like dessert wine, quince, sweetness. First sip is surprisingly dry. Develops great mineral and pear flavors, mile-long finish. Fantastic with Manchego. Seductive.
2006 Sanford "La Rinconada Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Review Date: 06-20-2009
Wine & Spirits hits it on the nail. Starts off with classic Pinot bouquet, little bit spicy on the palate. After 30 mins, great classic red and black fruit. With some more air loses the fruit of the Pinot and shows what has to be the added Syrah. More spice, minerals, barnyard. Fleshy and fuller than other Sanford Pinos.
2005 Principi di Butera Deliella Nero d'Avola
Review Date: 05-21-2009
Fruity with some wood on the nose. Delicious, easy to drink. Soft tannies, not a huge finish.
2006 McPrice Myers "L'Ange Rouge" Santa Barbara County Grenache
Review Date: 05-19-2009
If you can find it, buy it. This is extremely delicious, but hard to get. Big wine, but not over the top.
2007 Au Bon Climat Santa Barbara Chardonnay
Review Date: 05-19-2009
Maybe my favorite Chardonnay. Was served this at a wedding in SB and couldn't get enough. Has all the vanilla and cream you want from CA, with all the fruit and acid you expect from Burgundy. Well priced, great food wine, but weighty enough as a cocktail. House wine.

$16.99
2005 Barrel 27 Central Coast Syrah
Review Date: 05-19-2009
Had this a few times with friends, everyone fell in love with it. All you want from a CA Syrah, earth, fruit, acid, creaminess, weight. Maybe better alone than with a meal, but pairs well with cheese, and people...
Price:
$14.99
2006 Braunstein Zweigelt "Mitterjoch"
Review Date: 05-19-2009

2008 Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, New Zealand
Review Date: 05-19-2009
Great NZ Sauv Blanc, with little more weight, which makes it great with food or on its own. Better than the Kim Crawford at the same price, but you won't find this one in many restaurants.
Price:
$14.99
2002 Louise Brison Vintage Brut
Review Date: 05-19-2009
We had this for New Year's Eve, everyone absolutely adored it.

Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs Sparkling Wne
Review Date: 05-19-2009
Surprisingly good for CA and for the price. Fruity, yeasty nose. Prefer it to the Blanc De Blanc which is a little one sided. Great as an aperitif and as a breakfast cocktail with egg dishes etc.
Price:
$9.99
2008 "Gruner" by Ebner Ebenauer, Gruner Veltliner (1L)
Review Date: 05-19-2009
Not bad at all, but also not terribly exciting. None of the classic spice and fruit - rather bland, quaffable white. I'd go for the Hugl or Berger instead for the same price.
Price:
$10.99
2008 Hugl Gruner Veltliner (1L)
Review Date: 05-19-2009
Spicy, green apple goodness. Classic GruVe, on the nose and palate. Great value, similar to Berger.

2006 Saint-Bris, Sauvignon, Domaine Anne & Arnauld Goisot
Review Date: 05-14-2009
This is a huge surprise and very unique. Sauv Blanc with flavors of quince and tangerine. Very distinct, very food friendly, but complex enough for sipping on its own. What a deal.

This is great tasting, uncomplicated wine at a great price. Spicy, fruity, some tannis, great acidity, great with food. Really good value and something different for the mid-week...also fun slightly chilled.
