San Venanzio Prosecco Valdobbiadene Demi-Long Superiore Brut
Review Date: 02-05-2016
For the first days of spring, there is nothing better than bubbles. This is straw yellow and has a creamy mousse with a delicate, long-lasting bead on the nose that you will find releasing hints of apples and tropical fruit, plus wisteria blossoms, wonderful balance and elegance. The palate is crisp, with admirable fullness and a very dry finish. This will also work great with O.J. for your spring holidays and morning brunch. This is a wine of great balance and elegance and an excellent aperitif for all social occasions.

2014 Crater Rim Pinot Noir North Canterbury
Review Date: 01-29-2016
Wow! This is really one of the best Pinot Noirs I've tasted at this price point, and from one of the original regions to put New Zealand Pinot on the map no less. The bouquet has notes of plum, dark strawberry, clove, chocolate and earth. On the palate there is beautiful balance, with good acidity, silky tannins and very good length. If your a fan of Pinot, don't miss this great value. This Pinot rocks! For $20 bucks, this is your new house wine. Buy a few!!!

2013 D'Amico "Seiano" Lazio Rosso
Review Date: 01-29-2016
I love the marriage of this two grapes. The Merlot is predominate (with its plum and blueberry qualities), while I find the acidity and minerals from the Sangiovese and it all comes together as a Medium-body red with a luscious and long finish. This would be great with a cheese and honey course after a big meal.

2014 Valle dell'Acate "Il Frappato" Vittoria
Review Date: 01-15-2016
Made from grapes known also as Frappato di Vittoria, this wine is fragrant, fresh and bursting out, intense notes of cherries, blackberry and raspberry. The palate impression is bright and fresh, light but persistent; with small black and red fruits coating the mouth. Wonderful with all cheeses, it is equally at home when served with fish. Give a slight chill.

2010 Mastrojanni "Vigna Loreto" Brunello di Montalcino

A very plummy yet elegant red, with leather and spices on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with a sleek and refined tannin structure and a long finish. Yum !

2013 La Fortuna "Fortunello" Rosso Toscano
Review Date: 12-23-2015
This is another wine that earned two stars from me. Made of Sangiovese with a few months in oak, the nose is classic ripe cherries and strawberries and a hint of cocoa powder. On the palate of this full-bodied wine, you will find the fruit described above with a touch of minerals and soft tannins, which give this wine a very lush feel to the palate and an incredible, long finish.

2013 La Fortuna "Magnus" Sant'Antimo Bianco
Review Date: 12-15-2015
Sant'Antimo the new Condrieu? Viognier from Tuscany? Well if anyone can pull it off, it's our friends Gioberto and his son Angelo at La Fortuna. The aromatics are like something from a flower market. On the palate I get white peaches and apricot pit, with subtle tropical flavors, zippy acidity with a touch of wood that adds to the complexity of this wine, incredible length and a dry finish that lingers on and on. Here is a wine made for brunch or something very spicy.

2013 Claiborne & Churchill Edna Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 12-12-2015
Fragrant, floral and redolent with black-cherry fruit, the 2013 Pinot Noir exhibits the delicacy and allure of this captivating varietal. Hints of rose petal, caramel and forest floor weave through the jammy fruit core. The mid-palate is pleasant and smooth with fine tannins. Subtle cola and perfume nuances alight the finish for lingering enjoyment of this pretty red wine. Enjoy with gamey flavors such as duck, venison or wild mushroom pasta.

2014 Bava Malvasia "Rosetta" Castelnuovo Don Bosco
Review Date: 12-09-2015
A slightly effervescent, extremely aromatic red wine with low alcohol (5.5%). Bava's version shows off an unusual marriage of freshness, weight, and aromatic complexity. Wild red berry fruit is gloriously evident on the nose, along with fascinating hints of blossoms, particularly wisteria and iris. Served well chilled, and buy two—the first bottle empties quickly.

2014 Castello di Verduno "Basadone" Pelaverga
Review Date: 11-05-2015
I first tried this grape varietal with the 2008 vintage, when I met Mario Andrion (Oenologist) and I soon planed a trip to visit the winery in May of 2010 (www.castellodiverduno.it) they have a great hotel ! Pelaverga has a DOC, in the region of Piedmont in Italy. The small zone has a vineyard area of only eight hectares, and includes the commune of Verduno, as well as parts of the communes of La Morra and Roddi d´Alba in the province of Cuneo. It’s an amazing medium-bodied red, intense fragrant nose, showing spicy overtones with lots of black pepper, as well as fruity sensations reminiscent of black cherries and strawberries. Truly a taste sensation, (I give this a slight chill) and a must try. THE Prefect Thanksgiving day wine !!!

2013 Villa Poggio Salvi Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 10-22-2015
Cherry, plum, and spice flavors are sweet and ripe, while fresh acidity and moderate tannins provide structure. Displays fine balance and length. This fragrant, beautiful wine spent eight months in neutral oak casks, which has resulted in an intense, balanced red, very much a baby Brunello, and very much deserving of your finest pork and veal dishes.

2013 Marangona Lugana 'Tre Campane'
Review Date: 10-16-2015
100% "Turbiana," or Trebbiano di Lugana, grown using a "double arc" cordon in calcareous, mineral-rich clay soil. The grapes are picked by hand into small boxes, pressed as whole clusters, and fermented at low temperature. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is aged on its fine lees for about 4 months, then bottled early in the following year. No oak or malolactic fermentation. The vines are around 20 years old. Pale straw color; aroma of almonds, herbs, citrus and a touch of apricot; flavors completely consistent, with excellent acidity, fresh and long. I love this as an aperitif, or as a broadly useful table wine (roast chicken, fish...).

2012 La Valentina Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Review Date: 09-02-2015
There is nothing musty or old fashioned about this straightforward red, with fresh "modern" styling in its rich dark fruit and sweet tannins. Made entirely of the Montepulciano grape from the region of Abruzzo, this will work well with a pizza/pasta or just a great wine to serve to the "Family" on Sunday night. Plays well with food - especially tricky tomato sauce. Nice lift and acidity, but with the ripe fruit flavors of Abruzzo - which is located on the "calf" of the boot of Italy.

Geremia is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 24 months in French oak. Lots of dark skinned fruit with spice, minerals, and toasty oak that complete each other on the nose and palate, and the wine has pleasantly soft tannins, but good acidity to pull it all together.

Amara Amaro d'Arancia Rossa (750ml)
Review Date: 08-19-2015
WOW! is the first thing that comes to mind when I taste this. Amara is a more feminine approach to an Amaro that is the philosophy of the producer of this unique concoction. From the slopes of Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, there is acres of citrus groves, pride of the ancient tradition. Only in this area because of the nature of the terrain and the strong temperature grow the famous Red Oranges of Sicily. This is made with those blood oranges and herbs and has nice viscosity and incredible aftertaste. This just came in & I have been anticipating its arrival for quite some time and I will be enjoying straight over ice or as a Spritz with orange rind, as well as in various combinations in modern cocktails. TWO thumbs up from Guido ( Mike Parres)

2014 Agostino Pavia Grignolino d'Asti
Review Date: 07-17-2015
Grignolino is a very distinctive grape variety native to Piedmont. It combines pale, Pinot-like color with mouth-filling grip (some tannins). I think of this varietal wine as a dark rosé and I utilize it as one. Cranberry fruit flavors, herbal and rhubarb notes with great acidity. It is one of the classic matches with salumi, and it also complements a broad range of rich or flavorful summertime foods. I take this out of the refrigerator about a half an hour before serving, this really brings out the fruit. The perfect summer red!

2012 Castelfeder "Glener" Pinot Nero Trentino-Alto Adige
Review Date: 07-17-2015
This is truly an amazing Pinot. As you open this little treasure, pleasant aromas of wild strawberry, fresh leather and cedar fill the air. Medium to full-bodied. Richly textured berries and game mingle with a long, spicy, soft oak finish with fine tannins and a twist of vanilla on the finish. There is also some of that Alto Adige chalk and porphyry that give this lots of minerals and acidity for balance. This is a wine that will definitely stand up to something very rich on the plate; duck, or I will probably open mine and have with a leg of lamb.

2014 Ruggeri Corsini Langhe Bianco
Review Date: 07-15-2015
This is a complex blend of Arneis (50%), Sauvignon Blanc (30%) and Chardonnay (20%). The Chardonnay gives the wine body and weight, the Sauvignon Blanc a bold aromatic character, the Arneis lifts the aromatics and balances the body and adds some grip, structure and a decisive finish. It feels more like a white Rhone wine but its aromatics are unique. This is a great summer sipper, on the porch with some cheese, bread & a good friend.

This 2010 Brunello di Montalcino fleshes out beautifully on the palate with layers of super-expressive red fruits, coffee, some plum and spices with just hint of dust and well balanced tannins. The supple, forward personality is best suited for drinking over the three to five years.

2010 Tassi "Franci" Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 07-14-2015
The Brunelli’s from Fabio Tassi always remind me of Montalcino. They have the classic Tuscan dust and a little cedar, tobacco as well as fruit. The “Franci” is no exception, this is a bottle that when you remove the cork, I am almost transported back to this little hill town of Montalcino. This is a wine that is Old World in style with enough fruit and balance to keep everyone at the table happy. I will try to keep my hands off for quite a few years, the longer the time, the more I will be rewarded.

2010 Solaria Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 07-14-2015
Patrizia Cencioni’s Solaria is really a one-woman operation (she does hire help for harvest), and her philosophy is that great wines start in the vineyard and not in the lab. Patrizia really doesn’t put a thumbprint on her wines, she lets the hills of Montalcino and the Sangiovese speak for themselves. I have known and sold this producer’s wines for many years and am excited to do so again. Classic dark and ripe fruit, full-bodied with lots of structure, I would give this a couple hours of decanting.
