Pleasant wine that is especially good in warm to hot weather. It has a nice balance that doesn't fade as you drink.

Very nice blend with Shiraz as the most dominant. It needs a little time to air after opening, but it then offers a nice aroma and a medium to full flavor.

This is very appealing wine at a very appealing price. It is a wonderfully refreshing beverage for drinking or sharing on a warm and sunny day. It can be enjoyed with or without light snacks. It has a dry, crisp taste with just a hint of sweetness. Toll!

2009 Villa Pillo Syrah Toscana
Review Date: 11-06-2012
I concur with both Greg's and Brent's comments. I found this wine to be well balanced with a rich depth of berry flavor and a wonderful finish. It stands up to many of the full bodied Shiraz that I drink from Australia and is perhaps a bit more subtle.

Monastrell, Mataro or Mourvedre, call it what you like, but this is a very fine wine. Parker and Tanzer got this one right, it deserves their high rating. It is dense in color with a rich aroma and strong berry taste. It is well balanced and holds its flavor from first sip to last swallow.

2010 M. Chapoutier "Les Vignes de Bila-Haut" Côtes-du-Roussillon Villages
Review Date: 08-28-2012
A great wine that is dense in color, has a pleasant aroma and presents a solid (or as Wine Spectator states "powerful) taste. This is one that will go well with a full range of foods, from light to heavy. Definitely a wine to share with others.

Review Date: 08-09-2012
I am always a little suspect of a wine that has such a "modest" price. In this case, I was wonderfully surprised at the quality of this wine at the $6.99 price point. It was good at first sip and maintained its flavor thru a second tasting a day later.

2006 Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalon Claraval Seleccion Especial Calatayud
Review Date: 04-26-2012
This was a tale of two bottles. The first must have suffered from a bad cork, had a strong musty smell and an offensive taste. It was tossed. Several days later, the second bottle was opened and this one was more like the reviews provided by Mabry, Parker & Tanzer. Although it didn't exhibit the red fruited freshness described, it did have a pleasant berry flavor and nice balance. It may not be a wine to store for long if their corks are truly at issue. A much later tasting (4/24/2012) found this to be an outstanding wine that appears to have aged wonderfully in the bottle. Of course, now it is difficult to locate, but worth pursuing.

An unusual blend with a great balance and taste. Have already drained several bottles and looking forward to more. Given its modest price and quality, this is a wonderful "house" wine and a real steal.

2010 Blason Pinot Grigio Isonzo (1L)
Review Date: 12-29-2011
A very nice wine with depth of flavor that lingers on the tongue. It presents mild fruit aromas with just a hint of mineral and finishes with a clean, crisp taste. With the 1 liter format it can be easily shared, but why bother?

2004 Shingleback "Show Reserve" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Review Date: 11-04-2011
Not like a number of the Australian Shiraz that are over powering and one dimensional in taste. This is a much more subtle wine, but one with plenty of expression, perhaps due to its time in the bottle. It is not a wine to store for long; however, it should be good to drink over the next few years.

Dark with full-bodied flavor or as Wine Spectator notes a "muscular red". Found this wine by accident while in Luxembourg in October and was pleasantly surprised to find it recently at K&L. It will stand up to any number of hearty foods and is a steal at the price.

2009 Castillo de Monseran Garnacha Cariñena
Review Date: 09-21-2011
This wine (at this price) is pleasant enough for casual drinking, but is rather thin on flavor. The 2007 vintage from the same winemaker had more depth and character. It is unlikely that further aging will improve this wine. While it would pair well with a mild cheese or appetizer, it would not stand up to any hearty foods.

2009 Artazuri Garnacha Navarra
Review Date: 09-18-2011
This wine is well balanced, has a great nose along with a very dense color. It is full bodied garnacha with beautiful fruit tones and aromas. It is one of many wonderful wines from Spain that are bargain priced and super values. I purchased only two bottles initially, but will be back for more.

This is a full in the mouth wine with aromas of grapefruit, lemon, pineapple and a hint of stony mineral. It has a depth of flavor and that lingers on the tongue. It seems to have aged beautifully in the bottle.

2009 Domaine de Gournier Grenache Vin de Pays des Cévennes
Review Date: 03-11-2011
Pleasant enough for a casual drinking wine, but there is not a great deal of depth or character. Being a little thin on flavor it would make a good starter wine for those who are not yet ready for a more intense, full bodied red wine. And, although it would not stand up to any hearty foods, it might go well with a mild cheese or light appetizer.

2009 Camino de Navaherreros Garnacha Vinos de Madrid
Review Date: 12-07-2010
I served this wine on Thanksgiving expecting a much more flavorful wine based on the reviews. I, and several others, found the wine to be thin on color, aroma and taste. It was certaintly not a bad wine. In fact, it was well balanced and smooth to the palate, but it lacked any depth or character. I have more of this to try so I could be back with a revision if the next round changes my perception.

2005 Celler de Capcanes "Mas Donis" Barrica Montsant
Review Date: 11-29-2010
The first aroma that is evident in this wine is the musty smell. It tends to be a put off until you taste the wine. Although there is still a trace, the aroma and flavor now move to that of a deep red and hardy fruit. I definitely disagree with Parker's 91 rating and would think something in the mid 80's is more appropriate.

WOW! What a bargain at this price. I see that other reviews suggest that you drink it immediately or let it have some air time. I have tried both and I find it works both ways. So either drink it upon opening or let it sit for a while, but do give it a try. As one reviewer noted, storage may be important if you are planning to hold this wine for any length of time.

2006 Campo Viejo Tempranillo Crianza Rioja
Review Date: 11-16-2010
A little on the light side for a full throttle Rioja, but still a very well balanced and smooth tasting wine. The initial sip presents a rich and pleasant flavor and all the way to the finish there is no fade. An excellent wine for a variety of medium flavored food dishes and fine on its own. I have been back to K&L for more of this one.

2006 Hacienda Molleda Garnacha Cariñena
Review Date: 06-06-2010
I have become quite impressed with the inexpensive wines from Spain, especially the garnacha. This one had a great nose along with a very dense color. It is full bodied garnacha with beautiful fruit tones and aromas. In a recent blind tasting, along with five other comparably priced Spanish wines, it was one of the two top favorites.

2007 Las Rocas de San Alejandro Garnacha Calatayud
Review Date: 12-16-2009
A wine dark in color and medium to heavy in body. It was tight when first opened, but with a little breathing time was pretty much as described - "layered on the palate, it has superb depth, succulent flavors, and a pure, lengthy finish". This is a good wine with hearty foods and has a robust cherry and berry flavor.

2008 Crucillon Garnacha Campo de Borja
Review Date: 09-24-2009
This Granacha has a great nose and very dense color. It is medium to heavy bodied and needs time to help mellow out the fruit flavor. There is definitely an earthy taste both at the first sip and the finish. As a young wine, more time in the bottle should help soften the fruit tones and enhance the vibrancy. At $7.99 it is a bargain and should only get better.

2007 Pablo Menguante Garnacha Cariñena
Review Date: 09-21-2009
A wonderful blend of fruit and minerals makes this a must have garnacha. It is well balanced with only a hint of tannins. It drinks well alone or with mild foods and is a great warm weather wine (like we now have in California). A real bargain at the price.

2007 Bodegas Olivares "Altos de la Hoya" Jumilla
Review Date: 09-15-2009
Although highly rated by both Parker and Tanzer, my impression of the flavors was quite different than theirs (based on only one bottle). I found that the minerals seemed to overpower the underlying berry taste and left a somewhat less than smooth and balanced finish. I have yet to try the 2008 Bodegas Luzon, Jumilla the 2007 was far and away a better wine for a lot less $.

2005 Vinos de Terruños "LaMilla" Monastrell Jumilla
Review Date: 08-20-2009
Price reduction may be due to the limited aging for this wine. Corks are dry and break out on removal, although the wine shows no immediate loss of flavor or vibrancy. Don't cellar for long and suggest decanting to let the aromas gain some freshness. A decent value at the lower price.
