2012 Meli Carignane Maule Valley (Previously $13)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "There are very few Carignans like this in Chile. Made from old vines planted in the 1960s, this takes a light, fresh approach, focused on fruit rather than pushing for superconcentration. With its pure, juicy ripe cherry flavor, it could bolster a plate of grilled sausages or develop for a few years in the cellar." (6/2014) 90 points James Suckling: "A spicy and balanced red with blueberries, blackberries and hints of slate. Full to medium body, fresh acidity and a clean finish. A stylish red. Drink now." Balanced, fruity style." (7/2015) Wine Enthusiast: "This fruity, friendly Pinot opens with ripe berry aromas mixed with touches of minerality and latex. It feels fresh and sturdy, with black cherry and raspberry flavors. A pure, sweet, lightly chocolaty finish wraps things up." 2010 Von Siebenthal "Parcela #7" Gran Reserva Aconcagua Valley (Elsewhere $25)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Parcela 7 Gran Reserva is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged in French and American oak for 18 months (second fill). It has a subtle red currant and blackberry-scented bouquet with touches of sous-bois and bell pepper that are very attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and pure red berry fruit mixed with black pepper, sage and cured meats. It is very well-balanced and fresh, the finish supple and in tune with the oak. 93 points James Suckling: "Lots of dark berry, licorice, mint and terra cotta aromas. Full body with fine tannins and a balsamic and dried berry character in the aftertaste. Real balance and drinkability to this." (8/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "Subtle aromas of marzipan and cola yield to overriding prune and raisin scents on this extremely ripe, almost overripe blend. Soft and spongy on the palate, with berry and prune flavors, this shows smoke and toast notes on a low-pulse finish." (12/2014)

2013 Kingston Family Vineyards/K&L Pinot Noir Casablanca Valley Top Pick!
2013 Kingston Family Vineyards/K&L Pinot Noir Casablanca Valley

Coming from a single, small tank of press wine from their Casablanca Valley vineyards, located close to the coolin influence of the Pacific, this is delicious Pinot Noir! Brightly fruited, and bolstered by firm tannins that provide structure without distraction, I would be hard pressed to think of a tastier, more honest expression of Pinot, especially if what you are after is a highly drinkable wine that does not aim to be the biggest, the most fruity or the most highly awarded. This is a great deal in everyday Pinot! (Joe Manekin, K&L Chilean wine buyer... Read More »

99 points James Suckling: "Superb aromas of black currants, rose petal and mint. Lavender and stones too. Full body with incredible fruit density. Complex, yet it's agile and bright. Tannins are perfectly polished. It builds on the palate and shows the structure of a first growth Bordeaux but remains so Chilean. A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmenere, 12% Malbec, 10% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. This is a joy to taste now but it will show itself in 2019. Smoky red and dark berries on the nose, with a hint of orange zest adding lift. Tangy and wound up on the palate, offering slow-to-open bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors that show a slightly tart edge. Silky and seamless on the palate, offering juicy blueberry and boysenberry flavors that are given spine and focus by tangy acidity. Approachable already but the wine's density and freshness suggest that it has material to burn. Closes smooth and gently sweet, with very good energy and supple tannins. Age has amplified the herb scents, offering their fresh notes while the fruit flavors remain backstage, behind tannins that still feel youthful and energetic, giving the wine its profound depths. 2013 Alcance Carmenere Grand Reserve Maule Valley

Carmenere, the nearly lost grape of Bordeaux (unless you happen to be at the vineyards of Haut Bailly) has risen to star status in Chile, where it not only has roots established in the Colchagua Valley (see: Casa Lapostolle's Clos Apalta) but also in other regions, including the beautiful Maule Valley. Alcance's gran reserva bottling shows rich, spicy aromas of dark cherry and kirsch. The wine's nicely dry, purely fruited yet savory palate delivers the goods! Alcance is a project of Jackson Family Estates. (Joe Manekin, K&L Chilean wine buyer)

Bitter cherry and blackberry flavors show very good depth and pick up a smoky nuance with air. Closes with appealing sweetness, slow-building tannins and a hint of candied flowers. In an Old World style, with the depth to handle richer foods but plenty of vivacity as well." (2/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Tobiano is Pinot Noir from Casablanca, it has a very pure nose of sour cherries, quite pleasant with a faint herbaceous note. Let me tell you, for me the wine is simply fantastic. The 2010 Domus Aurea comes from an almost perfect vintage for Maipo that translated into wines with a long aging potential. 2014 Quebrada del Chucao Sidra Espumante Valle del Toltén

Produced from orchards located in the Araucania region of Southern Chile, originally planted 60 years ago, this is a delicious, dry cider, with some bitter and slightly astringent notes as well as very bright, crisp acidity. This reminds me somewhat of an Asturian cider, with less sour flavor and of course more bubbles. Truly delicious stuff! (Joe Manekin, K&L Chilean wine buyer)

2005 Concha Y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2005 Concha Y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor (1.5L) (96WS, 94RP, 93WE, 91W&S). Wine Spectator: "*Highly Recommended and #12 of Top 100 Wines of 2008* Still very tight, but the tannins that lead the way now are sleek and refined, and should easily meld into the huge core of roasted chestnut, black currant paste, warm fig and tar. Has a long, coffee- and loam-tinged finish. Best from 2009 through 2019. " (06/2008)
