Giacone Ranch Vineyard sits at the confluence of the Estrella River and Huerhuero Creek with incredibly rocky, gravely soils like those of Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. This sub-region of Paso Robles sees big diurnal shifts in temperature with hot days and cool nights as ocean air pushes in from the west. These ideal conditions produce and powerful, concentrated and opulent style of Cabernet with intense flavors and lush textures on the palate.

Roses, violets and sage. Nicely balanced and long. Lovely density in the center-palate. " (04/2022) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rich, softly tannic and saturated with black fruits, tobacco and dark chocolate, this full-bodied wine has a long life ahead. Ample flavors are gently but firmly held by fine-grained tannins that will need time to resolve and let more c...

(01/2024) K&L Notes: This 100% estate grown, Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is made entirely with old Chardonnay selections from Mesnil, Cramant, and Oger. This is our number one most re-purchased Champagne, and it is often sold out! We have been working with Champagne Launois, located in the Grand Cru of Mesnil, for more than 16 years now, and they are our number one seller for good r...

Domaine du Cardinat has been in the Lalanne family for over a century. Farmer and grandfather of the current proprietor, Patricia Singh, built the family home at the domaine 100 years ago and cultivated the land long before that. In 1935, Joseph Lalanne's sudden death thrust Patricia's father, Camille into the fields forcing him to leave school and commit his life to the family domaine. Just four years later, Camille planted the first vines at the domaine and his life was devoted to this patient passion. There he worked tirelessly to produce great brandy...

Cole Ranch is one of the most fascinating vineyards in California. It is also a one vineyard AVA, the smallest AVA in the USA at 180 total acres. The ranch is tucked into the Mendocino Mountains off the Boonville - Ukiah pass. This remote valley has a totally unique microclimate and complex mica rich schist and clay soils. The Pinot Noir vines for this bottling are from the highest elevation block on the ranch. The clone is a heritage field selection of Pommard. The fruit is meticulously farmed organically. Hand-picked, destemmed into open top fermenters...

93 points James Halliday: "It's matured in all-French oak and while it's mostly cabernet and merlot there's a small portion of petit verdot in the mix. It's medium weight and fluid with blackcurrant, milk chocolate and gravel notes slipping amiably through. It has shape and texture but integrity of fruit is key here. No mucking about; this is a good cabernet to drink. 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of chocolate, mocha, darker fruits, and dried herb-like notes emerge from the 2012 Château Barde-Haut, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2012. It's showing a touch of maturity yet still has plenty of tannins and structure, good mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I continue to think 2012 was a great vintage for the Right Bank, and this certainly doesn't change my mind." Don't let the name change fool you, this is the same great Champagne that used to be called "Carte Blanche". The Ariston Aspasie reserve is made of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, and 30% Meunier. A balanced cuvée in every way, this Champagne is clean and powerful at once. It has a natural toasty quality from spending five full years on the lees, and plenty of refreshing zip from the far northern location of the vineyards. No bottle in our inventory transports me to Champagne like this one. It is as true to the terroir and as pure as anything I could wis...

At just 7.5 acres, Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer from Champagne that we import, or even carry. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to négociants. His production is just 1,000 cases a year, total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and his hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and, although small, it is diverse. He farms 22 plots in eight different villages. Among these are some of the oldest vines in Cham...

96 points Decanter: "Rapturous perfume inspires and is enhanced by a cooling breezy freshness which billows and swells along to the long and haunting finish. An assault on the senses! (DWWA 2023)" (06/2023) K&L Notes: The area of Fronton lies in the southwest of France, near more famous regions like Madiran and Cahors but the area has a distinctive character all its own. With its strong mineral edge, the wine is textured and now ready to drink. (RV)" (06/2020) K&L Notes: The Louis Victor from Coutelas is made in the solera style, from one large barrel containing a perpetual blend. Coutelas lists this as composed of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Meunier, and Pinot Noir, but in fact, it is refreshed with 1/4 of the best wine vinified in a given year, while another 1/4 is take...

The unprecedented Tres Vieux Brut de Fut is one of the most memorable and unique offerings from any producer in Cognac. Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930. Since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The domaine has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky minerality and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

This Champagne is composed of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. The Champagne has a graceful, delicate balance that Verzenay wines sometimes lack but with the signature hazelnut Pinot core. I found it to have creaminess to complement its racy cherry fruit on the palate and an extraordinarily long, dry finish. It is dosed at 9 grams per liter: very dry! It will age very well. The Arnoulds own 27 acres in the village of Verzenay, a quite sizable holding in this high-rent area. It is planted to 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, which is avera...

This Champagne comes from a very special plot in Monthelon, just behind the Le Brun house on a southeast facing slope. It is entirely Meunier, half of which was planted in 1952 and the other half in 1902; the oldest living vines that I have seen in Champagne. The village of Monthelon is in the Côteaux de Sud Épernay, one of the coldest microclimates in Champagne, and that cold climate, in tandem with these ancient vines, has given us a truly epic wine. Alex’s craft has added to this — he uses a combination of small oak and large foudres for this wine alo...

This Champagne comes from one plot of 70-year-old Chardonnay vines in the Montagne of Reims village of Trepail. It is aged for three years on the lees. The Champagne has a chalky, creamy, bread bakery-esque nose, and a concentrated impression on the palate. As one would expect from such ancient vines, it delivers the goods on the finish with plenty of chalk as well as a bit of honey and white fruit. This makes a perfect aperitif, but will also pair well with seafood such as seared scallops or even raw oysters. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

It is a blend of two thirds Pinot Noir and one third Chardonnay, mostly from the grand crus of Ay and Louvois and including some from the premier crus of Tauxieres and Mutigny. Distinctly waxy, as many old malts were, it is one of the few distilleries to have maintained this characteristic in the modern era. The beauty of the Thompson Brothers is that they're willing to take risks. This offering is indeed a risky proposition for a bottler, the very reason the big guys were willing to let it go. On paper it reads like a very expensive blended scotch. But why add an age statement, when a 12-year-old Johnnie Walker is a fraction of the price? The age statement tells the entire story here and our friends at Dornoch care little for artificial labels and quality statements, all they care about is getting damn good whisky into your glass for an incredible price. Our best deal in pink bubbles! Fans of Billecart-Salmon take note: this is an elegant, dry style that is made entirely from estate-grown fruit in Brouillet. This Champagne is a blend of half and half Pinot Noir and Meunier. The color comes from 12% Meunier that is vinified red, from an old-vine plot that gets quite ripe. It is a very pretty tarnished pink color and has a lazy bead from over five years of aging on the lees. It has gorgeous red cherry fruit on the nose and mid-palate, but still finishes snappy and dry. One of K&L's very finest buys from France, this is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines.
