2013 Susana Balbo "Signature" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza Top Pick!
2013 Susana Balbo "Signature" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

93 points James Suckling: "Gorgeous pure cabernet sauvignon aromas with currants, blackberries and stones. Full body, round tannins and savory almost walnut overtones. A single vineyard wine from near Gualtallary. Excellent quality for the money. Drink now or hold." (6/2015) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Los Árboles in the district of Tunuyán in the Uco Valley. This is a cooler zone with some calcium carbonate in the soil where the grape ripens well that Balbo likes for Cabernet. 2014 Valentin Bianchi "Elsa Bianchi" Malbec Mendoza

The Elsa Malbec comes from Valentin Bianchi's Doña Elsa estate in the cool reaches of San Rafael, Mendoza. With just a kiss of French oak, the rich fruit dominates this easy-drinking red, which has barely-there tannins. Invoke your inner-Argentine and drink this alongside grilled flank steak with a garlicky chimichurri. Many previous vintages recommended by Wine Enthusiast as a "Best Buy."

2013 Zorzal "Terroir Unico" Pinot Noir Uco Valley Top Pick!
2013 Zorzal "Terroir Unico" Pinot Noir Uco Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Terroir Unico Pinot Noir follows the idea of the Terroir Unico range, to show the pure expression of the grape and the place in a line of unoaked wines. This was 20-30% whole-cluster fermented and is very pale colored, almost a rose, very perfumed, with aromas of red fruit and flowers opening to a light to medium-bodied palate, high acidity (blood orange), and a pure, fresh finish. Highly drinkable. Can the price be real? (LG)" (4/2014) K&L Notes: Based in the Gualtallary district of the Uco Valley, an area prized for its complex soils containing calcareous,... Read More »

2005 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvee Helene" Red Argentina Top Pick!
2005 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvee Helene" Red Argentina

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The winery’s flagship is called Poesia and is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It too is sourced from an 80 year old vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo. The 2005 Poesia was barrel-fermented and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it has a high-class aromatic array of pain grille, violets, spice box, black cherry, and blueberry. Smooth-textured, ripe, and sweetly-fruited, this elegant wine is beautifully balanced, nicely concealing enough structure to permit 5-7 years of evolution. It should drink well through 2030. 2012 Achaval Ferrer Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza (Elsewhere $24)

90 points James Suckling: "Fascinating aromas of dried flowers and dark currants. Full to medium body with bright fruit and a delicate finish. Turns to chocolate and sweet tobacco. Drink now." (8/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon mixes grapes from Medrano where it is warmer and their vines are young, while Agrelo is fresher (very old vines). The wine aged for eight months in French oak barrels, third and fourth-use. It is a ripe Cabernet with a creamy texture, where they are looking for the varietal character. 2013 Antucura Cabernet Sauvignon Vista Flores Top Pick!
2013 Antucura Cabernet Sauvignon Vista Flores

95 points Decanter: "Gorgeously refined, almost French in style. Typical Vista Flores notes of violets, lavender, tobacco and black pepper on the nose. The palate is medium to full-bodied with very fine-grained, classy tannins. Fruit characters on the palate are more dried fruit than lush and primary. Lovely age-worthy Cabernet." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Antucura has proven themselves quite adept at producing purely fruited reds (both Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon) that express their Vista Flores origins, as well as a deft touch in the cellar. 2014 Bodegas Chacra "Barda" Pinot Noir Patagonia

92 points James Suckling: "A well structured Pinot Noir with a solid core of fruit, firm tannins and bright acidity. Lots of iodine, blueberry, strawberry and floral character. Better in 2016 but delicious already." (5/2015) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The just-bottled 2014 Barda could be the longest-lived of the four vintages I tasted. It looked like a very good vintage early on, with a few warm nights before the harvest. The grapes were picked quite early and vinification was softer than normal. 2012 Chaman Malbec Reserva Mendoza

Great Malbec and even better price. Drink now-2018." 2014 Tilia Malbec Mendoza

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The grapes of the 2014 Malbec were harvested very early and 70% of them fermented using carbonic maceration. The freshness is so impressive that I had to look at the alcohol level, which is half a degree lower than in the fresher 2013 vintage! There are some herbal aromas (think raspberry leaf), bright cherries and flowers, even lilies. The palate is very tasty, with some subtle bitter flavors, fine tannins and very good acidity. 2014 Dominio del Plata "Crios de Susana Balbo" Malbec Mendoza

Crios means offspring (as in children). Susana selected a word to express the notion that these are wines that haven't quite 'grown up' to the same level of maturity as her more expensive Susana Balbo signature label wines, but they receive the same loving care and attention throughout the winemaking process. The label features a series of three connected and overlapping hands, an image inspired by a Mayan artifact. The three hands represent Susana and her two children.

Despite an initial suggestion of stewed black fruits, the very ripe palate is spicy, juicy and vibrant, showing very good density and concentration as well as a light touch. The most concentrated and structured of these single-vineyard Malbec bottlings, with the flavors of spicy red and black fruits carrying well on the back end. A terrific value. 2010 Bodega Weinert "Carrascal" Red Blend Lujan de Cuyo

This is perhaps the most traditionally made red wine in Argentina. It's awesome, I love it, our staff loves it, and I suspect many of you looking for something different from Argentina might love it as well. A blend of 45% Malbec, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet, this is a savory, dark-cherry-fruited wine, with an excellent sense of individuality and style. Interestingly, the Cab and Merlot seem to stand out much more so than the Malbec in this year's bottling. Located between the towns of Tunuyan and Tupungato in the Uco Valley, Bodegas Hinojosa has somehow been flying undar my radar until quite recently. 2005 Alamos Malbec Selección Mendoza (Argentina)

This is a new project for the company: single farmer wines to showcase the uniqueness of the individual terroirs and the talent and dedication of the people. As a fan of their regular line up, I was enthusiastic to try this wine. It is easily three times better, more concentration and length. Balanced with elegance, this is a wine not to miss! 2011 El Libre Malbec Mendoza

Produced from fruit grown in the Las Compuertas section of La Consulta, this is delicious Malbec for a very affordable price. Fresh red plum flavors and a juicy, forward texture suggest balance due to some thoughtful winemaking: fermentation and ageing in concrete tanks. Delicious (and gluggable) Malbec! 2000 Catena Alta "Uxmal Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Exotic, inviting aromas of roasted currant, cherry, Cuban tobacco, violet, mocha and nutty oak. Sweet, suave and sexy, with strong red fruit flavors of redcurrant and cherry complicated by tobacco and smoky oak. Offers a velvety texture without any excess weight. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins, excellent length and plenty of verve. (ST)" (8/2004)

2001 Catena Alta Malbec Mendoza

92 points Wine Spectator: "Though loaded with toast up front, this nonetheless displays lovely notes of boysenberry and raspberry confiture, followed by lush milk and dark chocolate flavors. The racy, long, detailed finish leaves a remarkably elegant impression. Drink now through 2006. 1,500 cases imported. (JM)" (2/2004) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, dark red. Cool, primary aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate. Liqueur-like but also penetrating and tightly wound, with rather bracing acidity. A juicy malbec that's currently on the hard side. Finishes with notes of bitter chocolate ...Read More »

2013 Maipe Malbec Mendoza (3L bag in box) *item can not be shipped

This is exactly what we have been waiting for - Malbec in a box! Maipe produces wonderful Malbec and we have carried a few of their wines. This version, when recently tasted showed all the wonderful purple fruits you expect in a Malbec, with no discernible influence from oak. Just rich, but balanced and fresh darker fruit flavors. At $9.33 per liter, and given the bag in box's ability to preserve a wine's freshness for much longer, we are huge fans fo this one! (Joe Manekin, K&L Chilean and Argentinean wine buyer)
