For example, maybe you want Pinot Noir from California, Oregon and Burgundy for $30 to $50 per bottle, and Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, Loire Valley and Bordeaux for $10 to $20 per bottle. At K&L, we search the world for exceptional wines to offer to our customers. Wines we select go through a strict selection process involving our buyers and tasting panels. We take the gamble out of buying wines.

How Your Wines Get Selected

First, we isolate potential matches within our inventory based on your specified regions, varietals, and price range. Unlike many retailers, our entire inventory is made up of wines that have met the approval of our buyers and tasting panel. Typically, we're passing up dozens of wines before selecting the one we like enough to bring into our inventory. Our suppliers hate it, but our customers love it. Anything chosen for your Personal Sommelier subscription will come from within this existing inventory of pre-screened wines.

Next, we look for wines fitting your criteria that one or more staff members have personally endorsed and reviewed, in addition to our buyer that originally bought it. Our staff tastes hundreds of wines each week and we think they are in a terrific position to offer well-informed opinions on the best wines in each category. This is the most important factor in the selection of your monthly picks.

Finally, we look closely at wines that other customers buy repeatedly. Our customer base is comprised of an amazing group of wine collectors and enthusiasts, and we we give extra credence to wines that were purchased two or more times by the same shopper. The more customers that have bought the wine on multiple occasions, the better we rate that wine. Allowing this community-driven influence to help shape the selection process is something we're really excited about.

Because we have been selling premium wines since 1976, and we have long-standing relationships with wineries, wine brokers, and wine wholesalers, we are able to find outstanding bottles at bargain prices. Due to our large-volume purchasing (we are one of the largest wine retailers on the West Coast), we have tremendous leverage with our suppliers and vintners.

Additionally, our frequent worldwide buying trips (several times each year since 1985) have given us many contacts with winery owners, negociants, and brokers. We are in a natural position to offer an outstanding wine club.

Our wine buyers travel around the world several times a year and are continually discovering special wines from every major wine producing region. By frequently buying directly from the sources, we eliminate the markups of importers and are able to bring you bottles at significantly lower prices than you'll see at other clubs or stores.
