K&L Notes

Husch was founded in Anderson Valley in 1971, and is now run by some of the original Silicon Valley escapees--the family of Hugo Oswald Jr. had been farming pears in Santa Clara Valley and sold their property during the 1970s tech boom! Their Sauvignon Blanc has been a favorite with Husch fans since 1980. This wine was made from two picks of grapes, an earlier pick to highlight Sauvignon Blanc's grassy character, and a later pick trending more toward tropical fruit and melon flavors. From the winery's note: "The 2013 Husch Sauvignon Blanc is a joy to drink and has lovely aromas of key lime, papaya, star fruit, melon, with a hint of capsicum and fresh herbs. Refreshing acidity highlights the citrus, melon, and tropical fruit flavors. On the palate the wine has a full impact and presents freshness and clean fruit purity. This versatile wine pairs nicely with oysters by the seaside, orzo pasta salad, or a rotisserie chicken. Drink now through 2016."

Husch, don’t say a word, just let this wonderfully refreshing, winsome and harmonious Sauvignon Blanc have its way at your next summer party, as its lively notes of citrus blossom, passionfruit, fresh-cut melon and herbs prove irresistible when paired with calamari, shellfish or a rosemary-crusted chicken.

I absolutely love this wine, and not because I sold my Anderson Valley Pinot Noir vineyard to the third generation of the Husch family, the Robinsons. Clean, crisp, and mouthwatering on the palate, this Gem provides a fig-like to melon-y quality in the mouth and on the nose, with excellent acid structure and a bright, lively finish. This Gem, according to The Bean, would be a perfect match to a shell fish dinner, particularly one with a rich creamy sauce. In any case, a "Great Value!" ***** 13.9% ABV *****
Drink from 2015 to 2020
