2000 Turley "Old Vines" California Zinfandel
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2000 Zinfandel Old Vines (1,100 cases) reveals a macerated, sweet jammy cherry-scented bouquet, loads of glycerin, and soft, low acid, plum/prune flavors displaying hints of balsam wood and pepper. (RP)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Full red. Pungent aromas of raspberry, pepper and orange peel. Thicker and denser than the young-vines bottling, with bright acidity giving the fruit-driven flavors excellent definition. Finishes sweet and persistent, with firm but fine tannins. A very successful blend. (ST)
Turley Wine Cellars makes thirty-four wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all natural yeasts in the fermentations.
