1998 Clos Fourtet, St-Emilion
Wonderful nose. Rich and dense aromas of crushed blackberries, tobacco and light coffee follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. Very pretty now. (Web-2009)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A strong effort from Clos Fourtet, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 offers pure blackberry and cherry aromas with subtle wood and licorice in the background. Medium-bodied, exceptionally pure, with low acidity as well as silky tannin, this sexy offering is ideal for drinking now and over the next 14-15 years.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright red-ruby. Highly perfumed nose combines cherry, raspberry, currant and nutmeg. Dense and silky but also bright and nicely delineated; mint and spice notes contribute to its juicy quality. Finishes with slightly dry but even tannins and very good persistence.
91 points and the latest notes from Neil Martin: "The Clos Fourtet ‘98 is now reaching 15 years old. It offers a lovely ripe, rounded blackberry, mulberry, Chinese tea and incense-scented bouquet that is now fully open. The palate has a sense of femininity on the entry with ebullient red berries, a hint of kirsch and mint towards the ravishing finish. Lovely…such panache. Tasted December 2012."
