1998 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375mL)

SKU #992918

This is a large Sauternes property making 11000 cases a year. In 1998 the 1st, 3rd, and 4th pickings were picked under ideal conditions, while the second picking was picked in the rain (and sold off). A classic botrytis year here and good acidity, though lower than 1997. Pineapple aromas with coconut flavors. Lush and very sweet. Concentrated with a syrupy impression. Long and deep. 91+ points from Stephen Tanzer... 'Medium yellow. Superripe, honeyed aromas of exotic fruits. Concentrated and fairly unctuous, with lovely peach and spice flavors shaped by ripe acids. Youthful, solidly structured and firm. Finishes with a flavor of apricot liqueur and a suggestion of oak tannins.' 90-94 points from the Wine Spectator... 'Subtle Sauternes, with spice, honey and botrytis character. Medium-bodied, very sweet, with a fresh finish. (Barrel Tasting)'

To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
