1997 Spring Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Another wine in what we have come to call the 'black-beauty' style. It has heavily toasted oak, espresso, black cherry and menthol aromas and flavors. The fruit seems subdued here, but the wine is nevertheless well integrated, with a full mouthfeel and long finish.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Possesses a Bordeaux-like austerity, as well as abundant quantities of sweet cassis, cedar, and spice notes in the complex bouquet. The dark ruby color is followed by a dense, concentrated wine with an emphasis on elegance and symmetry as opposed to power and flamboyance. The finish is quite tannic. (RP)
(Ranked #17 on the "Top 100 Wines" of 2001) Pleasantly funky, with a mix of leather, sage, and dried currant and ending with drying tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. (Web Only—2008)
This wine tied for first place in our staff Cabernet Sauvignon blind tasting. Big, dense, and ripe, this is a monster Cabernet that maintains its elegance. It is a great bottle that will age beautifully.
