1982 La Conseillante, Pomerol

SKU #950768 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

...An outstanding effort revealing plenty of black currant, kirsch, smoke, herb, and incense characteristics, a full-bodied, voluptuous texture, and melted tannins. My bottle seemed slightly less concentrated than others I have had, but this is still a great, fully mature La Conseillante that is best consumed over the next decade. (6/2009)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Medium red with an amber rim. Exotic aromas of plum, cherry, roast coffee, tobacco leaf and woodsmoke. Sweet, silky and suave, with lovely inner-mouth perfume. More subtle and sophisticated than most right-bank '82s, with solid underlying structure. Finishes firmly tannic, with sneaky persistence. Classy juice, for drinking over the next 10 to 12 years. (8/2002)

Big and rich. Dark brick-red color, with a ruby center. Very ripe fruit on the nose, with raisin, dark chocolate and earth. Lots of tobacco and cherry flavors and velvety, slightly coarse tannins. (11/1998)

Jancis Robinson

Lustrous ruby with orange rim. Gloriously mellow and sweet. Pure opulence. Beautifully mature. Not a trace of tannin. Some meatiness and extra depth suggested Pomerol certainly. One blind taster guessed Petrus. (19/20 Score) (12/2013)

K&L Notes

The fifth generation of the Nicholas family, owners since 1871, is now managing La Conseillante. The 29+ acres of vineyards are planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with clay soils dominating the Merlot vineyards and gravelly soils dominating the Cabernet Franc. Neighboring the great estates of L'Evangile, Figeac and Cheval Blanc, La Conseillante could hardly hope for a better piece of land on which to farm. Though not classified, Robert Parker equates this estate to a Second Growth in the Medoc in his book "Bordeaux."

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.
