Espolón Reposado Tequila (750ml)
Outside, the bottle sports an edgy 'Day of the Dead' label design. Inside, this light-gold liquid has a mild, juicy, slightly peppery scent and a surprising floral honeysuckle note with a lingering waft of smoke. The soft, mouth-filling texture is offset by a welcome alcohol bite. This Tequila would prove an interesting mixer for a sour-style cocktail.
Espolón Tequila is finally back in the U.S. with a fantastic new package and a new unbelievable price. The label is an ultra-cool "Dia de los Muertos" style mural, which immediately catches the eye. The price tag is more than reasonable, so that's two for two. If you actually get around to tasting it, then you're going to experience the ultimate trifecta in the spirits world: package, price, quality. The reposado has a softer mouthfeel and showcases the barrel aging beautifully, without taking away from the tanginess of the spirit. The peppery agave is the focus here with the wood only working to highlight the innate flavor. This is going to give every other Tequila a serious run for the money. Any Tequila fan should try this at least once. (David Driscoll, K&L Spirits buyer) From the Beverage Tasting Institute: "93 points. Golden yellow color. Mellow aromas of honeycomb, citrus meringue, and delicate pickling and baking spices. Super smooth and satiny with a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body. Elegant and floral on the finish with anise, bee pollen, and pepper accents. Superbly crafted." (8/2011)
