2001 Ravenswood "Old Hill" Sonoma Valley Zinfandel
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Full ruby-red. Knockout nose combines sappy black fruits, black pepper and spicy, smoked meats; rather Rhone-like. Tight on entry, then silky and sweet in the middle but with terrific flavor definition and cut. This has compellingly intense fruit and a very long, juicy, aromatic aftertaste. Would appear to be an outstanding vintage for this consistently excellent zinfandel bottling.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The outstanding 2001 Zinfandel Old Hill Ranch (14.8% alcohol) boasts a deep ruby/purple color in addition to copious quantities of sweet cherry fruit intertwined with notions of raspberries and currants counterbalanced by a subtle dosage of toasty oak. Full-bodied and dense, with seamlessly integrated acidity, tannin, and alcohol...(RP)
Well balanced and integrated, the wine serves up a fine blend of coffee, black cherry, chocolate, plum, toast and vanilla flavors. Tannins are smooth and the texture is plush. It finishes with a smoky note.
