1997 Robert Mondavi Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Elegant and stylish, with supple plum and black cherry fruit that's fleshy textured, picking up fresh herb, anise and loamy mineral flavors that give it complexity and depth. Firm tannins.--'97 California Cabernet retrospective. (Web-2008)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The powerful (14.1% alcohol), superb 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc) exhibits a complex, Pauillac-like nose of cedar, fruitcake, black currants, and spicy new oak. There is medium to full body, well-integrated sweet tannin and acidity, an opulent texture, and a layered, long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025.

Full ruby color. Spicy, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and licorice. Fat, lush and broad; a large-framed wine with impressive thickness and sweetness of fruit. Creamy, very fine tannins really spread out on the palate. A superb showcase for the appellation the Mondavis have done so much to define and promote.
Toast, mixed berries and some foresty mint make for an intriguing and inviting bouquet. High-grade currant and cherry fruit, with flashes of tobacco and mildly biting tannins. It’s a heavyweight all the way, but one with balance and potential.
