2017 Zudugarai "Amats" Rosé Getariako Txakolina

SKU #1352815

Amats is both the brand name of the Txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Beltza grapes, this rosé shows a lovely balance between fresh red berries, hints of watermelon, a very subtle, pleasant bitterness and fizzy quality. It's delicious with cured cheeses (something slightly smoky like Idiazabal works really well), charcuterie, anchovies or your favorite cured ham (prosciutto, serrano, or anything from Iowa's own La Quercia!)

This robust Rose has a light salmon-pink color, with fascinating aromas of ripe, wild mountain strawberries, and I found a hint of mandarin zest. It's fresh and lingering on the palate with a very dry finish.

Wow! 2017 Amats rose is like a pleasant punch in the mouth, with searing acidity and racy lift, plus a touch of spritz. More dry and lean than fruity, this vivid Basque favorite is refreshing, and would be great with charcuterie.

The white wines of the Basque region are renowned for the their thirst quenching Muscadet / Picpoul-like character. These wines have long served as the local liquid to wash down the exceptional harvest from the sea. With laser-like focus and pin point precision this wine offers up zesty citrus and floral notes. A pinch of CO2 greets the taster followed by brisk lemon, apple, and a lovely floral component. A tray full of fresh shrimp or sardines would go splendidly with this wine.
