2016 Caduceus - Merkin Vineyards "Chupacabra Blanca" Arizona White Blend

SKU #1347098

A blend of Riesling and Chardonnay from Caduceus Cellars, founded by rock frontman Maynard James Keenan. In 2002, Keenan moved to Jerome, Arizona and realized that the terroir resembled winegrowing regions he had visited all over the world. Most people think of Arizona as a dry, flat desert wasteland with no rain and sweltering heat almost every day of the year, but Arizona has its diverse regional climates, a few of which are quite suitable for growing grapes. Elevation gives the vineyard sites huge diurnal swings that allow grapes to achieve phenolic ripeness and sugar necessary for fermentation, while the cool nighttime temperatures help them to preserve acidity.

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
