2015 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape

SKU #1331969 96 points James Suckling

Distinctive for the bracken and peppery elements across wild red cherry and berry fruits. The palate has supple ripe raspberry and cherry flavors in gently grainy tannins that hold nobly. Exceptional purity and length. Drink from 2020. (8/2017)

(raised in concrete tanks) Brilliant ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented aromas of ripe red berries, cherry pit, potpourri and musky rhubarb, backed by a hint of Asian spices. Sweet, concentrated and seamless in texture, offering intense raspberry, cherry and lavender pastille flavors and a touch of licorice. Impressively suave and focused; a powerful jolt of candied flowers carries through the long, palate-staining finish. (JR) (3/2017)

Tasted from bottle, Bravays's 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is filled with notions of framboise, ripe strawberries, spice and dried flowers. It's not the biggest, baddest wine he's ever made, but it has beautiful purity and elegance, as well as medium to full-bodied richness, sweet tannin, and a great finish. It's well worth your time and money, and I'd be thrilled to drink bottles over the coming decade or more. (JebDunnuck.com) (10/2017)

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. - Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
