2016 Domaine de la Réserve d'O "Bilbo" Languedoc

SKU #1306658

Marie and Frederic Chauffray began their career in wine when they took over Fred parent's wine shop in a suburb outside of Paris. They ran the business successfully for many years but Marie always wanted to pursue winemaking. After 8 years of searching they found the perfect terroir in a small vineyard in the hills above the city of Montpellier. Since 2005, they have made wine their way, with respect for nature and following organic and biodynamic principles. The Bilbo represents their everyday wine. It is composed of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Cinsault. The wine takes its name not from the Hobbit but actually from the village of Bilbao in the Basque country of northern Spain. Marie and Fred are huge fans of Basque culture and this wine is meant to go with those kinds foods. Put a faint chill on it and serve with lighter fare. Some meatballs, bacalao, or perhaps an omelette with a little chorizo. (Keith Mabry, K&L Wine Merchants-French Regional Buyer)

The 2016 Bilbo is a stunner! Gorgeous fruit, spicy notes and bright acid make this a very approachable everyday wine that is juicy, fresh and perfect for any time of the year.

Not too bold, yet still complex and full of flavor. Very fruit forward on the finish. This Grenache heavy Languedoc blend makes a perfect entry level wine for wine novices intrigued to try French wine in general, and definitely a fantastic price, and if you're already a Rhone lover, I'd say give this one a try as well.

The Bilbo is another huge success from Marie and Fred Chauffrey of Reserve d'O. It is a big beautifully aromatic red filled with ripe plum, candied raspberries, violets and earthy minerality. Long on fruit, gorgeous acid and tannic structure and a sultry finish make this my favorite go to red for warm evenings. Never heavy but fully fleshed out, it will balance with so many foods. Staying in theme with the wine's namesake region of Bilbao though, I could devour some yummy Basque pintxos (tapas) with this yummy yummy wine.
