2016 Weingut Fürst Elbling Mosel (1L)

SKU #1306443

Fürst makes this easy-going white to be delightful as a picinic wine or aperitif. It is made in a feinherb style which means it's a whisker off-dry, but to be honest doesn't show any notable sweetness at all. Elbling is a historic vinifera grape varietal that was cultivated primarily in the Mosel Valley since Roman times and eventually spread to dominate the extensive plantings of medieval Germany. Very few producers are left making wines from this varietal but Fürst take theirs very seriously and this is a fantastic bottle of wine. Ultimately quaffable, refreshing and naturally low alcohol at 10.5%...good job it comes in 1L bottle...you're gonna need those extra 250mls! (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L German Wine Buyer)

I wasn't aware of German varietal Elbling until I tried this bottle, and let me tell you, I was in for a treat. Clean, slight mineral notes, and well balanced acidity, this 1L bottle is probably the best bang for your buck around. Perfect choice for any summer wine party, and pairs brilliantly with oysters.

A great surprise for me as I don't recall ever drinking "Elbling" - Reminiscent of a Gruner on the nose, but on the palate, it has this most attractive saline note. Quite dry but with a welcoming vinous texture. Acidity is high, but balanced. This is an easy, nice wine that is very useful in many settings, from summer get-togethers, to a seafood dinner extravaganza!

THE ultimate summer sipper. The Elbling grape was once a staple of the German wine industry. Now the variety only accounts for 0.6% of the nation’s plantings. And yet this bottle is potentially the most crushable wine of 2017—so far. It clocks in at 10.5% alcohol—I mean, that’s practically like drinking a beer. This is just one of the most deliciously refreshing, quaffable white wines in the store, bar none…and luckily it comes in a one-liter bottle!
