2016 Cap de Faugeres, Côtes de Castillon (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1299110 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2016 Cap de Faugeres, is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in 40% one-year-old barrels. It has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, undergrowth and pencil-lead aromas—more Left Bank than Right Bank in style. The palate is well balanced with firm tannin, good depth and tension with a spicy, almost Graves-like finish that lingers in the mouth. It is a little austere at the moment, but I appreciate the focus and poise. (NM) (4/2017)

An estate that has gone long on extraction in the past, but I'm really enjoying what they have done this year. This is big but very pretty, held back under tension, showing juicy black cherry and touches of chocolate. The soft, chalky tannins are very well placed; you can almost brush through them. This wine impressed me over several tastings. (JA) (4/2016)

Plenty of good fruit, blueberries, plums and minerals. Medium body and a silky texture. (4/2017)
