2013 Quinta Vale do Meão Douro

SKU #1283689 97 points Wine Enthusiast

*Cellar Selection* This wine is dominated by Touriga Nacional, which offers a backbone of dark tannins that gives it a firm structure and will allow it to age for many years. Produced in open stone lagares, it has richness and impressive opulence in black fruit tones that are cut by juicy acidity. Drink from 2022. (RV) (4/2016)

94 points Wine Spectator

A polished and suave style, with a Burgundian allure, featuring lively acidity behind the raspberry, dried blackberry and dark plum flavors. Lengthens out nicely on the muscular finish, showing plenty of cream and spice hints. (KM) (8/2016)

Jancis Robinson

Deep cherry colour with purple rim. Smells sweeter than the 2012 and 2011. Dark, and really much darker than the Meandro 2013. Dry and rocky but juicy too, more fluid than the 2012. Very young. Texture less dry than that of the 2011 and 2012, lifted by very good freshness and fluidity. Supple already. (JH) (5/2016)

Portugal

- Although quite small, Portugal produces a great variety of wines ranging from light and fizzy Vinho Verde to hearty and tannic Port. Portugal is Europe's fourth-largest wine-producing region, and has been exporting its wine since the 14th century. The Douro Valley of Portugal is the original and current home for the world's finest Port. The valley spans from east of the city of Oporto all the way to the border of Spain and is the country's best known wine region. Lesser-appreciated DOCs like Bairrada and Dão area also emerging for their fine, rustic reds. Click for a list of bestselling items from Portugal.
