2000 Massandra "Prince Golitzin Seventh Heaven" White Dessert Blend Crimea Ukraine

SKU #1282120

A rare dessert wine from the oldest winery in the Ukraine. The Massandra appellation stretches along the south coast of the Crimea. Sweet wine production goes back to the early 19th century in the region, which flourished under the unquenchable demand of the Tsars. Here, the winemaking history remained intact under communism, unlike what later happened behind the Iron Curtain to the sweet wine estates of Hungary. According to Robert Parker: "Founded by Tsar Nicholas II in 1894, the Massandra Winery, on the outskirts of Yalta, on the Crimean Peninsula, supplied the royal family with fine wines while they were vacationing at their summer palace at Livadia."
