2015 Tardieu Laurent "Cuvée Spéciale" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1280409 93-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

As to the reds, all of these show beautiful purity of fruit and impeccably made profiles. As a whole, 2015 was consistent throughout the Southern Rhône, and you see that consistency in this lineup. From 100-year-old Grenache vines planted in sandy parts of the La Crau lieu-dit, the blockbuster 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Spéciale knocks it out of the park with its decadent notes of kirsch, blackberries, Provençal garrigue and graphite aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, deep, rich and concentrated, it has an inherent, Grenache-driven sexiness that I adore. Michel Tardieu and his son Bastien, with the help of consultant Philippe Cambie, continue to make a rich, full-bodied, concentrated style of wine from throughout the Southern Rhône Valley. While they made some solid 2014s (mostly reviewed last year), these 2015s are hold on to your hat good! (JD) (10/2016)

93-95 points Vinous

(sourced from vines more than 100 years old in La Crau and made entirely with whole clusters) Lurid ruby. Deeply perfumed cherry, raspberry, licorice and Asian spice aromas open up with air and pick up suggestions of candied flowers and smoky minerals. Palate-staining red berry and bitter cherry flavors are lifted and given focus by a core of smoky minerality. Concentrated and seamless in texture, delivering outstanding closing thrust, supple tannins and lingering florality. (3/2017)

Rhone Blends

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
