2015 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The flagship from Côte Rôtie and a wine I suspect will flirt with perfection once released, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée is an utterly profound-looking wine that offers full-bodied, layered notes of blackcurrants, graphite, licorice, charred meats and spice. Possessing no hard edges, masses of sweet tannin, a huge mid-palate and a blockbuster finish, my notes are filled with expletives and “wow” comments. This is one of the most exciting wines I tasted from Côte Rôtie! (JD)
Deep lurid ruby. Potent, mineral-accented aromas of ripe dark berries, allspice, licorice and candied violet on the highly perfumed nose. Fleshy, seamless and broad on the palate, offering densely packed blackberry, cherry compote and fruitcake flavors sharpened by building spiciness and a spine of smoky minerality. Closes on a smoky note, delivering velvety, sneaky tannins, superb persistence and lingering florality.
The 2015 Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée is packed with dark currant and fig fruit, underscored by bramble-edged tannins that bristle with energy, while the finish pulls in copious sweet tobacco and tapenade notes. Almost gutsy in feel, this will easily soak up an extended élevage.
