 To give you an idea of the difference in production yields, there were 1,780 cases of the Chardonnay Mon Plaisir in 2014 versus 1,320 of the 2013. The 2014 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir comes across like a Meursault Charmes, exhibiting exotic tropical fruit (mango, peach, pineapple and citrus blossom). Intense and full-bodied, with great acidity and super-richness, this is a wine to drink over the next 7-8 years. ... As I mentioned last year, the Chardonnay crop in 2013 was wickedly small due to wind damage. 2014, even though it was a hot drought year, was far larger in quantity, actually bringing production levels back to normal (although those levels are low in all of the Peter Michael vineyards). The 2014 Chardonnays at Peter Michael were some of the great highlights of my trip, matching their fabulous 2013s by and large, and coming very close to their dramatic, absolutely remarkable 2012s.  Peter Michael’s 2014 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and textural richness, two of its principal signatures. Candied lemon, succulent apricot and spice notes meld into the creamy, voluptuous finish. This south/south-east facing site at 1,600 feet planted with old Wente clone Chardonnay yields distinctly ample wines. The 2014 Chardonnays are the highlights in this range from Peter Michael and winemaker Nick Morlet. The Chardonnays are rich and sumptuous - in classic Peter Michael style - yet also retain quite a bit of freshness. (AG)  (4/2016)
