2015 Bedrock Wine Company "Evangelho Vineyard - Heritage Wine" Contra Costa County Red Blend

SKU #1273710 94 points Vinous

The 2015 Evangelho Heritage Wine is another highlight in this lineup. Sublime aromatics, red stone fruit and finessed tannins elevate the Evangelho. Nuanced to the core, the 2015 exudes class and pedigree. The Evangelho is not as obvious as some of the other wines in the range, but it is among the most beautiful. (AG) (3/2017)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

From Contra Costa County, the 2015 Proprietary Red Evangelho Heritage comes from directly rooted Zinfandel, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Palomino, Alicante and Mission all planted in the 1890s on what is basically a sandy bench. The briary intensity of the Zinfandel is well-displayed, but then the blue and black fruits seem to jump out as do some dusty/loamy soil notes, forest floor, underbrush, pepper and background smoky notes. This is rich, floral, heady, intriguing and provocative. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Everybody should recognize the incredible speed at which Morgan Twain-Peterson has built his Bedrock Wine Co. into a world-class performer. Moreover, few people have done more to preserve and save heritage/ancient-vine vineyards than Peterson. Here is his new lineup of wines that shows his creative Midas touch for coaxing full character out of his diverse terroirs and blends. His commitment to excellence is something to admire. Expressive and floral raspberry and orange zest aromas open to rich and sleekly layered plum, cracked pepper and smoky sweet anise flavors that linger on the long finish. (TF) (3/2017)

K&L Notes

Robert Parker writes: "Morgan Twain-Peterson’s 2014 harvest was the earliest in his relatively brief history of winemaking. But I suspect that 2015 was even earlier based on what was happening when I was in California. These are some of the more exciting wines from heritage sites in California, and Peterson has the right philosophy and a go-get-it attitude that is endearing and positive. All of these wines merit serious interest from readers looking for hedonistic, flavor-filled, full-throttle wines that are bursting with personality."
