2015 Domaine de Millet Colombard-Ugni Blanc Côtes de Gascogne Blanc

SKU #1272375

Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost an Armagnac producer. They are fifth-generation producers with the reins now in the hands of daughter Laurence. The Côtes de Gascogne Blanc is an expressive blend of 50% Colombard and 50% Ugni Blanc. This wine is a great alternative white for you Sauvignon Blanc drinkers out there. It is loaded with peach and citrus aromatics and has vibrant acidity and clarity. This is one of the best values we have in the store! If you like, fresh, crisp and aromatic whites, you should give this a try. There are some off-the-beaten-path tropical notes such as green guava and dragonfruit. It's slightly floral, very citrusy and way more complex than you would expect for the price point. There is some lively acidity to this wine which keeps it very refreshing! Impress your friends by bringing this to your next get together. This would be a great pairing for anything you would traditionally eat with Sauvignon Blanc, or would even be great as an aperitif.

This is one of those dynamite, I can hardly believe it, finds for me. This little bottle of white delivered so much more than I was expecting despite having heard good things about it, I was still amazed with how much is going on here. The nose immediately opened with fairly fruity notes of melon, honey, and peach with these notes continuing on the palate. However this bottle has so much lip smacking acidity that the big fruit comes of super fresh and clean. The acidity does not shoot straight back but instead acts as a palate cleanser and makes you ready for more. A perfect food wine for any type of shellfish.
