2014 Turley "The White Coat" White Blend

SKU #1271549

Turley's white Rhône blend is as rare as a white truffle or a white San Francisco Christmas. If you are lucky enough to procure a bottle of this tiny production cult wine, serve it on its own so its fat, glycerol-laden body and honeyed richness can be appreciated without distraction. From the winery: "Though the blend has changed over the years, White Coat (named for Larry’s past as an Emergency Room physician) comprises rich, textured Roussanne from Rattlesnake Ridge on Howell Mountain moderated by acidity and structure of Grenache Blanc from Pesenti Vineyard. Recently we’ve added a bit of Vermentino from Amador, as well as some extra Grenache Blanc and a little Verdelho from Lodi. The result is a unique, dynamic white wine that is truly California."

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. California

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year. Specific Appellation:

Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
