2014 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Chardonnay
A fresh, fruity nose brings out notes of white flowers, golden apples and a certain touch of oak. This leads into a round, savoury palate loaded with new oak characteristics, hints of butter and butterscotch, a touch of apple and peach and a long finish.
Extremely complex white showing dried apples, toasted oak, smoke and toffee and lime undertones. Full-bodied, dense and layered with superb texture and tension. A vibrant Napa chardonnay that combines both intensity and tension. Complex and long. Drink or hold.
The fruit is ripe and juicy, seemingly sweet and shaded by spicy, toasty oak, allowing tiers of flavors to unfold in a graceful, elegant and understated manner. (JL)
Crème brulée, apricot, honey and lightly tropical notes give the 2014 Chardonnay Private Reserve much of its distinctive personality. The Private Reserve is all Gamble fruit and saw about 75-80% new French oak. In 2014, the Private Reserve is a touch restrained, but it is quite attractive just the same. (AG)
Beringer's 2014 Private Reserve Chardonnay is creamy and rich, with toasty notes and an overall sense of balance. The fruit is primarily sourced from their Gamble Ranch property in the Oakville AVA of Napa Valley. Each lot was kept separate from harvest all the way through the winemaking process. The wine was aged for 9 months in predominately new French oak with full malolactic fermentation, and the lees were stirred weekly to enrich the texture and profile. Only the finest lots were then selected for inclusion in this Private Reserve bottling. Winemaker's tasting notes: "A richly layered wine with aromas of crème brulee and rich citrus and fruit flavors."
