2013 Saxon Brown "Fighting Brothers" Sonoma Valley Zinfandel
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2013 Zinfandel Fighting Brothers (15.5% alcohol) displays notes of Provençal garrigue, pepper, kirsch liqueur and black currants in a complex, intense style. This is very Mediterranean in character, but full-bodied, hedonistic, and just a total joy to smell, taste and appreciate. Drink it over the next 4-6 years. (RP)
*One Star* Potent and powerful with a clear emphasis on high ripeness, yet managing to stay focused on intense, blackberry fruit all the same, this hefty offering is solidly structured and does a decent job of hiding its heat right up to the end. If, in fact, it is ultimately a little too hot for its own good, fans of big, gutsy Zins will find plenty to like both in the short term and some three to five years down the line.
Briary and jammy, with aromas of wild berry and eucalyptus, and zesty flavors of smoky plum, licorice and cracked pepper. Turns a bit sweet on the finish. Drink now through 2022. 393 cases made. (Web Only, 2016)
