2014 Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups (Jacky Blot) "Clos de Mosny" Montlouis Sur Loire

SKU #1269057 Jancis Robinson

Cool, creamy and restrained. Tighter, and tastes drier than the Clos de la Bretonnière. Silky and intense but elegant too with ripe pear and apple hints. Deep and subtle rather than broad or fat. (JH) (1/2016)

K&L Notes

From a rising star of the Loire Valley named Jacky Blot, who started his career as a wine broker. Over the years he's put together 12 hectares of ancient vineyards in Montlouis, Vouvray and Bourqueil, acquired from families who could no longer care for them. This was grown on a south-facing monopole that faces directly to the Cher River. The top soil is clay, sand and a rich scattering of silex which sits over limestone. The vines are meticulously cared for, hand harvested, then fermented using the native yeasts. After fermentation the wine is allowed to rest on its lees for six months and then bottled in early winter.

The aromatic on this screams, "here I am, I'm an awesome Chenin". The concentration from the nose to the finish is absolutely fantastic. There is a textural density that only Chenin can achieve when done by a top notch grower/winemaker. And the the precision and intensity drive through and create something really special. This is a cellar keeper or decant in the morning to enjoy in the evening.

Additional Information:

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines. Traditionally grown in the Loire Valley, the wines made from this varietal are typically labeled geographically. Vouvray Chenins are traditionally medium-sweet; Savennières Chenins are typically bright and crisp; Coteaux du Layon Chenins like Bonezeaux and Quarts de Chaume are among the world's most sought-after sweet wines, and the sparkling Chenins of Saumur are perfumed and delicious. What all of these iterations of the grape have in common is their ability to age, a gift bestowed upon them because of the grape's naturally high-acidity.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. - Of all of the French wine producing regions, the Loire might produces the greatest variety of wines. They range from still to sparkling, very dry and acidic to hearty sweet, and clear in color to a deep purple. The diversity of wine produced in this region is due in part to its dynamic climate, which ranges from Continental to Mediterranean. This region is best known for Sauvignon blanc, Chenin blanc and Cabernet Franc. The most famous areas in the Loire Valley may be Sancerre and Vouvray.
