2012 Law Estate "Audacious" Paso Robles Red Wine

SKU #1267218 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The star of the show was the 2012 Audacious, an interesting blend of 45% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Grenache that was raised in 50% new French oak (the Grenache saw all larger 500-liter barrels). It offers sensational purity and depth in its cassis, blackberry, graphite, dried earth and dried herbs aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, concentrated, supple and downright sexy, it's a gorgeous 2012 that makes the most of the these limestone hills west of Paso Robles. (JD) (8/2015)

93 points Vinous

Brilliant ruby. Vibrant blackberry, cherry-vanilla and potpourri scents are complicated by candied licorice and smoky minerals. Pliant, palate-staining dark berry preserve and floral pastille flavors show excellent clarity, with an exotic Asian spice flourish providing lift. Finishes with outstanding lift and cut, with gentle tannins adding shape and focus. (JR) (9/2015)

90 points Wine Spectator

Tightly focused, with a beam of dense, minerally tannins. Aromas of currant and dark Asian spice combine with firm but rich flavors of blackberry, smoky sage and peppered beef. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Best from 2017 through 2028. (2/2016)

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. California

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year. Specific Appellation:

Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
