2015 Château Saint Jacques d'Albas "Domaine d'Albas" Coteaux de Peyriac Blanc
Pale salmon pink. Intriguing minty note on the nose. Real grab on the palate. Quite an assertive wine that would stand up to food pretty well but, well chilled, would make a good aperitif. I may even go and buy some myself from the estate this summer.
Situated in to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne and in the shadow of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) lies Minervois. The village of Laure-Minervois is home to the winery Chateau Saint Jacques d'Albas a 90 hectare estate in the hills above the village. Some 26 hectares of the estate are planted to vines with the rest composed of forests and creeks acting as a natural barrier to their neighbors. At the winery, a small team led by owner Graham Nutter, craft superb reds, whites and rosés, all of which are farmed organically. The "Domaine d'Albas Blanc" is a blend of 45% Vermentino, 45% Viognier and 10% Roussanne. All the grapes are cold-pressed and vinified in stainless steel preserving the ripe fruit notes and purity of the wine. Loaded with stone fruit flavors, good acidity and medium body, this is for fans of folks who like freshness and zeal in their white wines.
